Ryan Day, Quinshon Judkins, Will Howard discuss win over Nebraska

Watch and listen to what Ryan Day said after the scare vs. Nebraska. #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team got an unexpected scare from a Nebraska team that was taken behind the woodshed last week in Bloomington, Indiana, but found a way to survive, winning a close 21-17 contest at home on Saturday.

Head coach Ryan Day met with the media in Columbus after the game and had plenty to say about what he saw from the Cornhuskers and his team. He was visibly relieved to have pulled out the win but it’s clear it was not a performance he liked on the offensive side of the ball.

Thanks to the Columbus Dispatch YouTube channel, we have all of Day’s comments for you to take in, and as a bonus, running back Quinshon Judkins and quarterback Will Howard also took some time at the podium to field questions.

Watch what the trio said by clicking on play below and fast forwarding to when Day steps up to the mic to face the firing squad.

Ohio State will now hit the practice field and film room to dissect this one and prepare for a massive contest with a top-five Penn State team next weekend. Check back with us often as we continue to reflect on Nebraska then turn the page to the trip to Happy Valley coming up.

What Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule said about Ohio State after the game Saturday

Rhule was quick to credit Ohio State despite the close shave. #GoBucks

Well, that was closer than anyone thought.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers came into Ohio Stadium and gave the Buckeyes all they could handle, taking the game into the fourth quarter and making Ohio State win the game on a defensive interception to steal a close, 21-17 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule had to be pleased with his team’s performance against one of the best rosters in college football, yet disappointed for not being able to finish the deal when he stepped to the podium after the game, and that was definitely the case based on his comments.

We like to keep tabs on what the opposing coach says after each OSU game, and we had one of our writers there again to capture the video and audio from what Rhule said about Ohio State after the game. If you missed any of those comments you can catch them all thanks to our YouTube Channel.

Rhule credited the Buckeyes, especially what he saw from them on defense, but also praised his team for bouncing back among other things. Hit play below to catch everything he said after the game.

The win improves Ohio State’s record to 6-1, and now it’s time to prepare for one of the biggest hurdles of the season — a trip to Happy Valley to take on Penn State next week.

Ohio State rides defense to win over Nebraska

Defense led the way for Ohio State against Nebraska

Ohio State had all it could handle on Saturday against Nebraska.

The Buckeyes needed two interceptions, three tackles for loss and 13 tackles for loss in the 21-17 Big Ten victory over the Cornhusker in Columbus.

Ohio State trailed 17-14 in the fourth quarter but went on a 75-yard drive in the fourth quarter. It took eight plays before Will Howard threw an eight-yard TD pass to Quinshon Jenkins for the game-winning score.

The run game for the Buckeyes was non-existent. They had 31 carries for 64 yards.

Ohio State is 6-1 with a huge conference matchup next up against Penn State. Nebraska is 5-3.

Expert score prediction: Nebraska vs. Ohio State

Who will win on Saturday and what will the final score be?

It was hard to see Nebraska winning this one from the start of the season. Last week’s loss to Indiana fueled that prediction. The Huskers have a long way to go when competing with ranked opponents.

But their showdown against the Ohio State Buckeyes may be closer than 56-7. For starters, Nebraska will likely look to respond, whether it’s a solid first half of play or just a few good drives throughout.

But perfection and consistency remain their weaknesses, something the Buckeyes will exploit. Ohio State averages 35 points per game in Big Ten play, and with Nebraska’s defense in shambles, it’ll likely reach that point.

Will Howard is a fifth-year quarterback who’s averaged around 262 passing yards and over two touchdowns per game this season. The Buckeyes also average around 208 rushing yards per game.

Even in the loss to Oregon, Ohio State scored 31 points, passing for 326 yards and rushing 141 yards. Defensively, however, they surrendered 341 passing yards and 155 rushing yards.

Nebraska could score if they find holes in the Buckeyes’ defense like Oregon did. But it’s difficult to say how often they can or even will. Dylan Raiola averages 227 passing yards and over a touchdown per game, while the run game averages around 127 yards per game.

However, the offense’s inconsistencies this season don’t give much hope. Indiana shut down the Huskers’ run game, forcing Raiola to beat them in the air, which the Hoosiers kept in check.

This allowed Indiana to pick apart Nebraska’s defense, tallying up 280 passing yards and 215 rushing yards. Though Ohio State doesn’t put up numbers like Indiana’s, it’ll be capable of scoring.

Score Prediction: Ohio State 38, Nebraska 17

WATCH: Ryan Day Nebraska preview press conference

Day didn’t pull any punches on what needs to change through the rest of the season. #GoBucks

Ohio State has had a couple of weeks to sit and chew on the heartbreaking loss to Oregon a couple of Saturdays ago. Now, it’s time to get going and get things going for the home stretch in trying to run the table to be in position to win the Big Ten championship and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff.

But first things first, the Buckeyes have to host a Nebraska team that looks much improved from what we’ve seen over the last few seasons (aside from last week against Indiana).

Head coach Ryan Day isn’t thinking ahead and knows Ohio State has to be ready to play against the Cornhuskers and not forget to compete each and every week. He met with the media on Tuesday as he does every week to discuss where the team is and to preview what to expect from Nebraska.

We’ve got all of his comments here thanks to the Columbus Dispatch YouTube Channel. Click on play and listen to Day discuss the deficiencies against Oregon, the play of Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola, the issues on defense, and more.

Ohio State and Nebraska are set for kickoff at Noon ET on Saturday. We’ll have coverage before, during, and after the contest, so come back often.

WATCH: What Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said about Ohio State before Saturday

Listen to what Matt Rhule said about facing Ohio State. #GoBucks

Ohio State enjoyed a week off last week, but you can bet it wasn’t the equivalent of a Hawaiian vacation. Instead, the Buckeyes were looking to find ways to sure up its defense and in-game situations after a heartbreaking loss at Oregon.

OSU is back in action this weekend, hosting Nebraska in a game it will be looking to put a better product on the field. In some ways, the Cornhuskers are in a similar spot, having been taken behind the woodshed vs. Indiana their last time out.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule met with the media this week in Lincoln to preview the matchup with Ohio State and to also reflect on his team’s performance (or lack thereof) against Indiana last week and had plenty of interesting things to say about the Buckeyes.

In case you missed any of his comments, you can catch them all here thanks to the “Inside Nebraska” YouTube channel. Click on the play button below and listen to Rhule discuss the challenge of playing Ohio State in a pretty wide-ranging press conference ahead of the game.

Ohio State and Nebraska are set to kick things off in the ‘Shoe on Saturday at Noon ET. You can check back here as we continue with some pregame analysis and also through and after the game.

Ohio State asks fans to ‘Scarlet the Shoe’ for Saturday’s game against Nebraska

Could the all-scarlet color rush uniform make a comeback? #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is back in action this Saturday after a week off from games. Nebraska will head east to Columbus for another Big Ten showdown. The Buckeyes have little room for error after taking one on the chin in Eugene against Oregon.

As the team prepares for the Huskers, social media posts have been made requesting fans in attendance to wear Scarlet to the game in what’s being called “Scarlet the Shoe.” Could this mean something more?

In the past, when fans have been asked to wear a specific color for the game, it has coincided with an alternate uniform. “Black out the Shoe” saw OSU in its all-black uni. Could a “Scarlet the Shoe” indicate the Buckeyes will be wearing the all-red ensemble?

The one and only time Ohio State has worn the all-scarlet color rush uniform was on Oct. 30, 2021, when the Bucks hosted Penn State for a night game. OSU came out on top of that one by a score of 33-24. There has been no official word an alternate uniform will be worn, but it just makes you wonder…

Husker soccer shut out 2-0 by Washington

Nebraska falls to 5-10-1 on the season and 2-7-1 in the conference.

The Nebraska soccer team celebrated Senior Day by hosting the Washington Huskies on Sunday afternoon. Despite delivering over three times the number of shots, the Huskers failed to score, resulting in the Huskies’ 2-0 win.

Nebraska fired 25 shots in the loss but only seven on goal. Washington, meanwhile, only delivered nine shots, five on goal and two in the back of the net.

The Huskies scored under seven minutes into the match and added another goal halfway through the second. Throughout, they held off the Huskers’ offense.

Sarah Weber kicked a team-high nine shots, but only one was on goal. Weber’s nine shots on the day bring her career total to 330, just 24 shy of Meghan Anderson’s for the second-most in school history.

Reese Snowden was second on the team in total shots, delivering four with one on goal. Abbey Schwarz also fired multiple shots, finishing with two, both on goal.

Nebraska falls to 5-10-1 on the season and 2-7-1 in the conference. The Huskers will conclude the season by hosting the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday afternoon. The match is set for 1:05 p.m. on B1G+.
