Nebraska adds three-star athlete CJ Bronaugh to 2026 recruiting class

Nebraska picked up their third commitment in the 2026 recruiting cycle earlier in the week.

Earlier this week, the Nebraska Cornhuskers added a new commitment to their 2026 recruiting class. Holding a pair of commitments from quarterback Dayton Raiola and wide receiver Dveyoun Bonwell-Witte, the Huskers added a commitment from Florida athlete CJ Bronaugh.

Bronaugh is a census three-star prospect across the recruiting industry and projects to be a defensive back at the next level. He’s been clocked at 4.3 in the 40-yard dash and 10.33 in the 100-meter dash.

In addition to the Huskers’ offer, Bronaugh also received offers from Arkansas, Florida State, Indiana, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Penn State, Syracuse, Tennessee, UCF, Wake Forest, and Wisconsin.

Huskers make top 12 for class of 2027 quarterback

Nebraska looks to be in good shape with 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor.

Nebraska football made the top 12 for 2027 four-star quarterback Trey Taylor. He made the announcement on X. The quarterback is a high-priority target for Nebraska.

According to the Rivals.com rankings, Taylor ranks 33rd nationally. Several big-name schools also want the quarterback. Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and LSU are some of the more prominent programs that have extended an offer to him.

He had a stellar season for Carmel High School in Illinois. According to MaxPreps statistics, he has thrown for 3,061 yards, 20 touchdowns, and seven interceptions and is averaging 278.3 yards per game.

Taylor has also been able to get it done on the ground. He has 41 carries for 342 yards and four touchdowns. He is efficient in his carries, averaging 8.3 yards per tote.

The quarterback is scheduled to visit Lincoln this weekend as the Huskers take on the Wisconsin Badgers. A win on Saturday would certainly help in recruiting and Taylor could have a role in the program’s future.

Matt Rhule reveals larger role for freshman WR Quinn Clark

Nebraska football freshman Quinn Clark may get a chance to make an impact on Saturday.

Nebraska football coach Matt Rhuke indicated that freshman wide receiver Quinn Clark practiced with the top offensive units this week. He could have a chance to play on Saturday.

The freshman played in the season opener against UTEP. He was targeted once but did not have a catch. He was a dynamic high school player, recording 1,791 yards and 30 touchdowns in three seasons, according to Maxpreps.com.

Clark’s height is also intriguing. He is six-foot-five, 205 pounds. His athleticism and speed make for an explosive combination. Earlier in the week, Dana Holgorsen told the press that he had found a player in practice that could make an impact in Saturday’s game and Rhule confirmed on Thursday that Quinn Clark was the player in question.

Nebraska football must pull out all the stops as they aim to get that sixth win with two games remaining. Clark appears to be going up the depth chart, and it will be interesting to see if he will play a factor on Saturday.

Expert score prediction: Nebraska vs. Wisconsin

Who will win on Saturday?

Another week, another attempt to get win number six. Nebraska hosts the Wisconsin Badgers with both teams sitting at 5-5 and signs point to the Huskers defeating the Badgers.

Wisconsin’s got a big disadvantage. They’re on a three-game skid, lost a low-scoring 16-13 battle with No. 1 Oregon, fired its offensive coordinator and are playing in Lincoln on Senior Day.

But this is still Nebraska, a team whose last trip to a bowl game occurred in 2016, a team on a 10-game losing streak against Wisconsin, a team that any opponent would prefer to play in November.

Nebraska’s issues remain the same. Outside of a Ceyair Wright’s pick-six, the Trojans sliced up the Blackshirts secondary. Though some passes found a USC receiver’s hands by luck, others fell right into an open Trojan’s hands.

It also struggled to stop running back Woody Marks, the second running back this year Nebraska fully allowed to get the better of it.

However, the Badgers’ struggles do allow for potential rebound by the Huskers. Along with its offense making a sudden change at play caller, Nebraska’s defense is presented with a chance to hold an opponent to 20 or fewer points for the first time since the first week of October.

Indiana and Ohio State are some of the toughest teams in the nation. UCLA was building momentum, and USC’s quarterback fit more into Lincoln Riley’s system. All played a part in Nebraska’s already struggling defense being pressured further.

Braedyn Locke has been inconsistent this season. His main strength is hitting the deep shot receiver or the quick slant, both of which Nebraska needs to prioritize. However, the run game is just as important, with Tawee Walker averaging 4.8 yards per carry this season.

Locke’s inconsistency lately gives the Blackshirts an opportunity to bounce back properly compared to their previous four quarterbacks. However, Wisconsin’s change in offensive coordinator makes it more unpredictable than ever, which in turn acts more as a disadvantage for the Blackshirts until proven otherwise.

As for Wisconsin’s defense just held No. 1 Oregon to 16 points, its fewest in a game all season. But in Oregon’s defense, it played in Madison under the lights and looked to control the game offensively instead of dominating it.

Holgorsen now has a game under his belt as offensive coordinator for the Huskers and knows more of the offense’s strengths and weaknesses during a game.

But it’s likely going to be another one-score game, and once again, recent history shows a win by Nebraska in November by one-score is more surprising than anything else.

Unfortunately, despite the look, history is most likely going to continue.

Score Prediction: Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 21

Is Tommi Hill playing on Saturday? Injury updates for the Husker cornerback

Nebraska cornerback Tommi Hill is dealing with a foot injury. Here are the latest updates.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has confirmed that defensive back Tommi Hill will be out for the remainder of the regular season. The cornerback has been dealing with a foot injury for most of the 2024 season. In seven games this season, he’s recorded 21 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, one pass breakup, and one interception (returned for a touchdown). The coaches and media named him Honorable Mention All-Big Ten for the 2023 seasons. Hill entered 2024 with draft expectations and was invited to the upcoming Senior Bowl. Matt Rhule made the official announcement on Thursday afternoon.

Tommi Hill injury update

Matt Rhule said the following on Thursday

“Tommi will be out for the next two games. He’s tried to play. It’s obviously tough. He’s dealing with a lot. So I just shut him down. He’s been invited to the Senior Bowl and maybe he’ll be ready for bowl practice. He’s out there playing at half and three-quarter speed that led to first touchdown against USC and the first touchdown against Indiana and the first touchdown in the Illinois game. I feel for him, he came in with high expectations.”

How long will Tommi Hill be out?

On Thursday, Rhule announced that the senior cornerback would be out for the season’s final two games as he continues to rehab from his injury and prepare for the Senior Bowl.

The Huskers will face the Badgers this Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on Big Ten Network.

Reilly named Big Ten Setter of the Week

This is the eighth time the Sioux Falls native has been named Big Ten Setter of the Week.

A Nebraska volleyball has won a weekly conference award. Sophomore setter Bergen Reilly was named the Big Ten Setter of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Reilly helped the Huskers defeat the Minnesota Golden Gophers and Indiana Hoosiers last week. She averaged 10.71 assists per set and 3.86 digs per set.

In a 3-1 victory against No. 16 Minnesota, Reilly had 40 assists and a career-high 20 digs. She is the first Husker to record at least 40 assists, 20 digs, and five kills in the rally-scoring era (2001).

This is the eighth time that Reilly has been named the Big Ten Setter of the Week. Other weekly award winners were Sarah Franklin (Wisconsin Badgers) as the Player of the Week, Nalani Iosia (Michigan State Spartans) as Defensive Player of the Week and Charlie Fuerbringer (Wisconsin Badgers) Freshman of the Week.

Nebraska’s Tommi Hill headed to Reese’s Senior Bowl

Nebraska defensive back Tommi Hill is headed to Mobile this draft season

Nebraska cornerback Tommi Hill is one step closer to achieving his NFL dream.

On Thursday, it was announced that the senior defensive back has accepted his invitation to the 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

A former Arizona State Sun Devil, Hill is in his fourth season with the Huskers. After entering the season as a potential first-round draft pick, the Florida native’s stock has dropped quite a bit, but he remains an NFL hopeful.

This fall, in seven games, Hill has recorded 21 tackles, including one tackle for loss, one interception, and an additional pass deflection. One season ago, Hill recorded 26 tackles, four interceptions, and nine pass deflections in 12 games.

The Senior Bowl kicks off the NFL Draft season every year, as prospects from around the country flock to Mobile, Alabama, for three days of practices before the game.

Historically, a late January event, this year’s Senior Bowl game will be on February 1.

Jayden Maiava played well enough to win, but turnovers are cause for concern

There was a lot of good and a lot of bad for Jayden Maiava. The main thing to remember is that this was only his first start. Improvement should occur.

On Saturday, USC quarterback Jayden Maiava made his first start in Cardinal and Gold when the Trojans took on Nebraska. As expected with any new starting QB, Maiava’s performance was a mixed bag. There were some very high highs, but also some very low lows.

Overall, Maiava played a solid game. He completed 25 of 35 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding another score on the ground.

However, he also had two horrible turnovers, both of which, to put it bluntly, were simply inexcusable plays. The two turnovers essentially handed 10 points to a Nebraska team that was struggling offensively, keeping the Cornhuskers in the game.

On USC’s second possession of the game, Maiava threw a brutal interception to old friend Ceyair Wright in which there were no receivers anywhere near the ball. Wright returned the pick 45 yards for a touchdown, giving Nebraska its first points of the game.

Later on, with the Trojans leading 21-17 in the third quarter, Maiava had a bad fumble on a rushing attempt deep inside USC territory. Nebraska got a field goal off the turnover, cutting the deficit to one point.

With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, however, Maiava came through when it mattered most. With the Trojans leading 21-20 with a little over 10 minutes left, Maiava led USC on a 13-play, 84-yard touchdown drive that ate up 7:39 of clock. Ultimately, that insurance proved to be enough, as the Trojans held on for a 28-20 victory.

Overall, outside of the two turnovers, Maiava played fairly well. While there is certainly a lot that needs to be cleaned up, Maiava and the Trojans will look to build off the performance heading into next week’s rivalry matchup against UCLA.
