Husker legend makes surprise appearance at football practice

A Nebraska legend made a surprise appearance at football practice on Tuesday.

A Nebraska legend made a surprise appearance at football practice on Tuesday. Hall of Fame coach Tom Osborne stopped by the Huskers practice facility to visit with Matt Rhule and his staff.

It’s no surprise that the coach should visit the week of the Colorado game. Osborne had a long history with the Buffaloes, holding a record of 21-3-1 against the former conference foe.

Osborne’s connection to Colorado goes deeper than just coaching against the program. The Hall of Fame head coach almost left Nebraska for the Buffaloes job.

As Mike Babcock reported in Hail Varsity in 2018, Osborne was offered and considered the Colorado head coaching job. Following the 1978 season, Colorado offered Osborne more than double his pay to move west from Lincoln to Boulder.

The head coach told the Lincoln Journal then that his players were the most significant factor in his decision to stay in Nebraska.

“I thought about when it would come time to line up next fall against the Nebraska players I had recruited and coached,” he was quoted in the Lincoln Journal. “That was an over-riding factor in my decision” to stay put.

Osborne would coach at Nebraska for 25 seasons and would finish with a record of 255-49-3. He would win 13 conference championships and three national championships as a head coach.

Nebraska continues preparations for Colorado

Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule met with the media on Monday afternoon.

Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule met with the media on Monday afternoon. He talked about the team’s preparations for their game this Saturday against Colorado.

On Colorado prep and what to expect:

“Well, I think they have really good coaches. You go back and look at their coordinators. You look at Sean Lewis from Kent State, he’s a friend. He’s an excellent coach. He comes out of Art Briles’s tree. You’re going to get the ball run from B gap to B gap. They’re going to attack you on the perimeter. They’re going to take ten deep ball shots a game. They have the guys. They can go down the field and their ball skills are elite. They have a quarterback that can make those throws. It’s really a perfect storm and perfect hire. That style of offense with that skill set of guys they have, plus the altitude and tempo in Boulder, it’s really well thought out. On defense, obviously, Coach Kelly comes from the (Nick) Saban tree. You watch Florida State film and you can’t look at everything from what they did last week. Obviously, they were facing a new offense with TCU and it’s like two different worlds of what we played last week compared to now. We’re studying everything. They have a lot of new players and we have new players so this is their first time too. A lot of work has been done this summer and a lot of work has been done right now.”

Colorado defeats TCU in season opener

Nebraska’s week two opponent earned a big win on Saturday.

Nebraska’s week two opponent earned a big win on Saturday. The Colorado Buffaloes defeated TCU 45-42 on Saturday afternoon.

First-year Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said after the game that the win was a collective team effort.

“I am so proud of these young men. I’m so proud of everybody because it was a collective effort. It truly was.”

He did say that the victory was far from perfect and there is a lot of work to do before hosting Nebraska next weekend.

“We have to fix some things. We had a fumble, we had some special teams mistakes. A couple things happened in the first half that we have to fix.”

Quarterback Shedeur Sanders led the way for Colorado with 510 passing yards and four touchdowns. Corner/wide receiver Travis Hunter played 117 snaps, had 119 receiving yards, an interception, and three tackles.

Colorado will now prepare to host the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday, Sept. 9 in Boulder, Colorado. Find photos of the Buffalo’s victory over TCU below.

Colorado reportedly bans the color red from team facility

A recent media report states that one of Nebraska’s 2023 opponents is ready to renew its rivalry.

A recent media report states that one of Nebraska’s 2023 opponents is ready to renew its rivalry. The Denver Post has reported that Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has banned the color red from the Buffaloes facility.

Colorado wide receiver Omarion Miller told reporter Sean Keeler that his head coach isn’t a fan of the color red inside the Buffs facility.

“Coach Prime doesn’t like us wearing red in the facility. I didn’t know it was that bad. No red in the facility. “They don’t like their red here. They hate red. No red.”

The former Big 8 and Big 12 rivals will renew their long-standing rivalry on September 9th. That’s when Nebraska will travel to Boulder, Colorado, to take on the Buffaloes.

That game will be the home debut of the new head football coach of Colorado, Deion Sanders. The game has been a major topic of conversation since the Buffaloes introduced Sanders as the head coach back in December of 2022.

Athletic Director Rick George made several comments regarding the September 9th showdown between the Cornhuskers and the Buffaloes.

“We need to sell out, and we need the Nebraska game to be all black and gold… no red! Coach Prime’s first home game is against Nebraska, and we’re gonna give him a Colorado Buffalo welcome with black and gold. So we expect everybody to come up and show up. Don’t sell your tickets, because we know who you are and that’s not gonna work.”Nebraska fans have always been known for traveling well, and Boulder has shown to be no different. Their last trip to Boulder saw the No. 25 Cornhuskers fall to Colorado 34-31 back in 2019.

Nebraska’s QB has heard from fans about one game in particular

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims is looking forward to the start of the 2023 season.

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims is looking forward to the start of the 2023 season. The former Georgia Tech transfer spoke to the media at Thursdays Big Ten media day appearance.

Sims told the media that there has been one game in particular that Husker fans are excited about.

“I’ve heard quite a bit about Colorado. But we haven’t really focused on that game yet because, you know, we’ve still got to play Minnesota.”

Colorado and Nebraska were both founding members of the Big 12 when the league was created in 1996. Both left following the 2010 season when Nebraska bolted east for the Big Ten and Colorado moved west for the Pac 12.

Colorado has recently announced that they would be returning Big 12 starting in 2024.
