Previewing the Wisconsin Badgers ahead of Nebraska’s Week 12 matchup

A closer look at Nebraska’s Week 12 opponent, the Wisconsin Badgers.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will look to snap a two-game losing streak this weekend when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison on Saturday evening.

The Badgers have dominated the series between the two programs, winning 12 of 16 matchups including each of the last nine dating back to 2012. Last season, the Badgers won an ugly one in Lincoln 15-14.

The Cornhuskers are 5-5 this season and 3-4 in conference play after suffering back-to-back losses to Michigan State and Maryland. It’s the program’s second two-game losing streak this season, also losing two straight to start the season against Minnesota and Colorado.

Wisconsin’s season started strong with a 4-1 record but has struggled of late as injuries have piled up. Luke Fickell’s program has lost four of their last five including three straight to Ohio State, Indiana, and Northwestern.

Now that the table has been set, here’s what to know about the Buckeyes ahead of Saturday’s matchup.

Nebraska volleyball earns 25th win with 3-1 victory over Illinois

The No. 1 ranked Huskers hosted Illinois in their only matchup of the season on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 1 ranked Huskers hosted Illinois in their only matchup of the season on Sunday afternoon. Nebraska dominated the first two sets, winning both 25-14, but Illinois attempted to upset the Huskers by winning the third set and attempting to win the fourth. Nebraska stood its ground in set four to take the win (25-14, 25-14, 24-26, 25-22).

The Huskers provided an all-around performance in their 25th straight win of the season, with four players reaching double-digits in kills. Bekka Allick finished as the top Nebraska player in kills, earning 12 off of 19 attacks. She also led the team in blocks with five.

Merritt Beason and Ally Batenhorst each finished with 11 kills. Beason added eight digs, four blocks, and three service aces in the Huskers’ win. Freshman Harper Murray rounded out the double-digit squad with ten kills off 35 attacks while providing seven digs and four service aces.

Another notable performer on offense was Andi Jackson. The freshman delivered nine kills off 11 attacks for an attack percentage of .818. Freshman Bergen Reilly provided excellent support with 45 set assists and eight digs, while Lexi Rodriguez led the team in digs with 16.

Turnovers doom Nebraska football in 13-10 loss to Maryland

The Huskers spent the entire season struggling to perform on offense.

The Huskers spent the entire season struggling to perform on offense. Nebraska averaged under 20 points and over two turnovers per game, with two quarterbacks heading into its Saturday showdown with Maryland. Somehow, the Huskers’ offense hit rock bottom, losing to the Terrapins 13-10.

Nebraska saw three quarterbacks sit under center throughout the game: Heinrich Haarberg, Jeff Sims, and Chubba Purdy. The trio combined for 86 passing yards, 66 rushing yards and five turnovers. Haarberg got the start but was benched after an interception and an injury. Sims took over and helped Nebraska score all 10 points. But he threw two interceptions and fumbled once.

Purdy then came in on what would be Nebraska’s final drive and almost led the Huskers to a game-winning score. But threw an interception in the endzone, which ended up being the play of the game for Maryland. The Terrapins marched down the field and kicked a game-winning field goal on the next drive for the win. They only scored six points off the five turnovers, but it was enough to secure a win.

This overshadowed the rest of Nebraska’s play in the game, as they rushed for 183 yards and held Maryland to its lowest-scoring scoring performance of the season, as well as forcing three turnovers.

The Huskers now stand at 5-5 on the regular season and will travel to Wisconsin next Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and can be viewed on NBC.

The last time Nebraska soccer competed in the NCAA Tournament was in 2016, when it defeated South Dakota State in the opening round. The Huskers repeated that event seven years later on Friday night, this time with a 5-2 victory over the Jackrabbits.

South Dakota State and Nebraska clashed throughout the first half, ending with the Huskers ahead 3-2. Nebraska ran away with the lead in the second half, adding two more goals to secure the win.

Sarah Weber and Sadie Waite scored two goals on the night. Eleanor Dale added to her career year with her 26th goal of the season. Dale is now one goal away from tying the school record for goals in a season. On defense, Sami Hauk secured four saves off six shots on goal faced.

Nebraska advances to the second round of the tournament for the third time in the last ten years. It will either play Tennessee or Xavier and could advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2004. The time and date for the next match is to be determined.

Previewing the Maryland Terrapins ahead of Nebraska’s Week 11 matchup

Ahead of tomorrow afternoon’s matchup at Memorial Stadium, we take a closer look at the Maryland Terrapins.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers will look to bounce back from their first loss since September this weekend when they host Big Ten East opponent, the Maryland Terrapins.

Saturday’s matchup will mark just the third meeting all-time between the two programs. The other pair of meetings came in 2016 and 2019, both wins for the Cornhuskers including a 54-7 beatdown of the Terrapins in College Park in 2019.

The Cornhuskers enter this week tied for second in the Big Ten West with a 5-4 overall record and 3-3 record in conference play. As mentioned above, the Huskers are coming off their first setback in over a month, falling last weekend to Michigan State in East Lansing.

Maryland, on the other hand, are losers of four straight including a 51-15 loss to Penn State last Saturday. After suffering their first loss of the season in October to Ohio State, Maryland has been put into a tailspin with little answers for their struggles through the last month.

Now that the table has been set, here’s what to know about the Terrapins ahead of Saturday’s matchup.
