5 stars: The best and worst of Notre Dame’s loss at Louisville

Not much we right for the Irish against Louisville

This wasn’t the way [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] envisioned tonight, they got out-played in their own game by [autotag]Louisville[/autotag], losing 33-20.

The Irish played their worst game of the year, and the result was their second loss of the season, effective eliminating them from a spot in the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag].

Tonight was a tough one to swallow, as the Irish on paper looked like the much better team. They were not.

Typically we look at who performed the best, but there really wasn’t anything to celebrate tonight. Find out below what I thought was the worst part of Notre Dame road loss to Louisville.

Watch: Former Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn pays off bet to Ohio State in-law

Take that off now Brady

When [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] lost at home to Ohio State, it wasn’t just the Irish that lost.

[autotag]Brady Quinn[/autotag], whose brother in-law is former Buckeye linebacker [autotag]AJ Hawk[/autotag], made a bet with each other on who would win the game. Unfortunately, the former Irish quarterback had to pay off his bet in front of a large audience.

On the set of [autotag]Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff[/autotag] pre-game show, Quinn arrived on set with a Hawk Ohio State jersey, officially completing the wager. Check out the video below of the incident.

We certainly don’t agree with [autotag]Urban Meyer[/autotag]’s comments, Brady looks much better in Blue and Gold.

ESPN College GameDay picks Notre Dame at Louisville and Week 6’s top games

Who do you have winning during Week 6?

In a shocking move, [autotag]ESPN College GameDay[/autotag] did not follow [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] to [autotag]Louisville[/autotag] this weekend.

The previous two, against Ohio State and Duke, GameDay was on hand for the Irish contests. This weekend, they headed to Dallas, Texas to see the Red River Rivalry, two undefeated teams in Oklahoman and Texas facing off in their final game as members of the Big 12.

They brought in former Heisman winning Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield to be the guest picker, along with the regular crew of game pickers in [autotag]Desmond Howard[/autotag], [autotag]Pat McAfee[/autotag], [autotag]Lee Corso[/autotag] and [autotag]Kirk Herbstreit[/autotag].

Find out below who they picked to win Notre Dame at Louisville along with the rest of the best games of Week 6 action.

Questions Notre Dame needs to answer to defeat Louisville

What questions do you have for the Irish tonight?

[autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] is back on the road facing yet another top-25 team, this time going to [autotag]Louisville[/autotag].

The Irish are playing their third night game in-a-row, once again with plenty of eyes on the program. The task isn’t much different than the first two, get a victory any way they can.

The first two games of this gauntlet haven’t been easy, both going down to the wire with Notre Dame splitting the games. They have a prime chance to go over .500 on this portion of the schedule and if they are able to answer these questions below, the Irish will return to South Bend with another win on the 2023 season.

Notre Dame vs. Louisville: Confidences & Concerns for Irish

How you feeling about tonight, Irish fans?

Notre Dame fans knew this stretch of the season would be tough. Any 4 game window that starts with Ohio State and ends with USC gets your attention, adding in night road trips to undefeated Duke and now Louisville, and you have yourself a gauntlet.

While the sledding is undeniably tough, the Irish should be in a better place mentally and emotionally to handle this environment than they entered last week’s contest. Why? Winning. Winning solves almost every football problem. And that’s what the Irish did last week.

Can the Irish ramp the offense back up? Will this be yet another last-second nail-biter? Let’s examine some confidences and concerns Notre Dame fans may have entering this tough road affair.

Watch: Notre Dame football’s social media drops trailer for Louisville

Are you hyped up?

For the third week in-a-row, [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] will play a ranked opponent, the second time it will be on the road taking on [autotag]Louisville[/autotag].

It’s a big game for both teams, as the Cardinal are undefeated and the Irish, with one loss, are still fighting to make the [autotag]College Football Playoff[/autotag].

That possibility is a ways off, so this weekends focus is on defeating host Louisville. Notre Dame’s social media team knows that as well, as they dropped the game trailer for Volume No. 7 of the 2023 season.

Check out their video below, giving us a bit of a teaser before we see the Irish back in the field Saturday night.

Know your foe, Louisville: Which Cardinals could give Notre Dame problems

The Irish continue their gauntlet of difficult games

Notre Dame football will face their third consecutive ranked opponent at night, as they travel to Louisville, Kentucky to face the Cardinals.

The Irish didn’t start this run on a good foot, but righted the ship against Duke. Quarterback Sam Hartman played the hero and the Irish finished their comeback as running back Audric Estime found the end zone with time running out.

Hopefully this weekend won’t be as dramatic, but if Louisville has a say in that, it will be. They’re a solid team that has plenty of playmakers on both sides of the ball. Find out below a few of them that could make life uneasy for the Irish.

Social media reacts to Notre Dame’s football final drive video

Safe to say the Irish social media team hit a home run with this video

If you haven’t seen it already, [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag]’s social media account dropped an inside look at the Irish’s game winning drive this past weekend over [autotag]Duke[/autotag].

It’s safe to say the video went viral, since it was posted on Monday evening, it has already amassed 5.5 million views, with that number rising steadily as it continues to be shared.

The Irish social media team absolutely killed it, the praise is universal and comes from more than a few unexpected people. Check out below a few of the best social media reactions to Notre Dame’s epic final drive video that has taken over the internet by storm.

Triple-(Howard)Cross: Notre Dame’s defensive tackle get’s two more national awards

Thrice as nice for Cross this week

It was quite a weekend for [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] defensive tackle [autotag]Howard Cross[/autotag], as he terrorized the Duke offense on Saturday night.

The senior was dominant, racking up 13 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, a sack and two forced fumbles, which already earned him the Reese’s Senior Bowl defensive player of the week.

It didn’t end there for Cross, as on Tuesday we found out that two more outlets named him as their defensive player of the week.

The [autotag]Chuck Bednarik Award[/autotag] also named Cross their top defensive player from the past week making it two big time collegiate awards giving the Irish defense tackle some recognition.

It didn’t end there, however, as Cross was also named the [autotag]Walter Camp Award[/autotag] defensive player of the week.

It was a week that Cross won’t forget and hopefully the start of a huge finish to his Notre Dame football career.

Notre Dame football makes a list on ESPN that you don’t want to be part of

Sigh

It wasn’t the best weekend for [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag] on the field and that was reflected on ESPN.

Every week the network has a bottom 10 (subscription required), and this week the Irish made the list. Checking in at No. 5, Ryan McGee called Notre Dame the Fighting’ Abacuses for fairly obvious reasons.

He expanded on the misery of wearing the unlucky green jerseys after the Irish had just 10 players on the field during the last play against Ohio State “and three … wait … sorry, we don’t have three points. We accidentally miscounted and come up one short. Get it? Too soon?”

The article is a parody and shouldn’t be taken too seriously or should it? Unfortunately this wasn’t the first time Notre Dame miscounted players on the field; it did so against Tennessee State earlier this year as well.

As Tyler Horka mentioned, this can’t happen against better teams, but it did and cost the Irish a big-time win.
