Iowa snags commitment from transfer portal QB

The Hawkeyes have landed a QB.

After seeing the quarterback room depleted with the departures of Cade McNamara, Marco Lainez, and James Resar, the Iowa Hawkeyes have landed one via the NCAA transfer portal.

The Hawkeyes, likely led by the recruiting and success of offensive coordinator Tim Lester, have snagged a commitment from Hank Brown, the former Auburn Tigers quarterback who was in the transfer portal.

After visiting with the Hawkeyes on Thursday, Brown announced his commitment just one day later. Brown will join an Iowa quarterback room that also includes Brendan Sullivan and Jackson Stratton in 2025.

Brown arrives at Iowa with three years of remaining eligibility.

“He’s been incredible. Just an awesome, genuine guy who just loves the game of football. Just fires me up to be able to learn from him and grow with him in this offense,” Brown said of Iowa OC Tim Lester.

Brown joins the Hawkeyes after spending two years with Auburn. The 6-foot-4, 208 pound quarterback’s time with Auburn saw him play sparingly over those two seasons. In 2023, Brown was just 7-of-9 passing for 132 yards in minimal action.

Brown appeared in three games for Auburn during the 2024 campaign against Alabama A&M, New Mexico, and Arkansas. In those games, Brown combined to complete 27-of-43 (62.7%) passes with six touchdowns and three interceptions.

Coming out of Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tenn., Brown was a three-star signee per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Brown was ranked as the No. 60 quarterback and as the No. 34 player from Tennessee according to 247Sports in the class of 2023.

247Sports ranked Brown as a three-star transfer, as its No. 34 quarterback and as the 227th-ranked player nationally.

Texas A&M projected to land talented Big 12 wide receiver out of the transfer portal

On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos predict A&M to land Texas Tech WR Micah Hudson

Mike Elko is off to a solid start during the transfer portal season getting veteran UAB Jacob Zeno to commit to Texas A&M after a visit earlier this week. With that settled for now, the next position of need they are attacking aggressively is wide receiver.

It has been tough to recruit and maintain top talent at the wide receiver position at A&M, no matter the staff. They have recently lost a handful of receivers in the portal, like Evan Stewart last year and Cyrus Allen and Micah Tease this season.

On top of those transferring out, three receivers are out of eligibility causing a depth issue immediately. However, Elko has shown that he is not afraid to hit the portal hard to fill needs.

As a show of that they are hosting numerous talented wide receivers starting with Texas Tech receiver Micah Hudson out of Temple, TX. The former two-time District 4-5A Division I MVP had A&M in his final choices before ultimately signing with the Red Raiders.

Unfortunately for Hudson, his first year was hampered by an injury that limited his action and only played minimal snaps through eight games. Looking for a change of scenery Hudson enters the portal early this week with A&M as one of his first visits

After visiting on Tuesday, On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos confirmed that the talented receiver is predicted to land with Texas A&M. This would be a big step to adding more talent to the room to pair with the incoming class.

He completed the 2023 season with eight catches for 123 yards and zero touchdowns. Being that A&M was in his final choices the Aggies have a hand up in his recruitment.

Iowa football set to host QB out of transfer portal

The Iowa Hawkeyes are hosting a quarterback out of the transfer portal who hails from the SEC.

The Iowa Hawkeyes and their transfer portal storylines officially have liftoff.

Quarterback remains a need for the Hawkeyes with the departures of Cade McNamara, James Resar, and Marco Lainez, which has depleted the position.

Iowa, who has been outspoken that they would be looking at quarterbacks in the transfer portal, is reportedly hosting one coming from the SEC.

Former Auburn Tigers quarterback Hank Brown is expected to be visiting with the Iowa Hawkeyes this Thursday, per reports from On3.

Hank Brown, who has spent two years at Auburn, appeared in just three games for the Tigers this season.

The 6-foot-4 Brown completed 27-43 (62.7%) passes this season for six touchdowns and three interceptions in limited action against Alabama A&M, the University of New Mexico, and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

He ran the ball only three times for 10 yards.

Brown was 7-9 for 132 yards during the 2023 season.

The product of Nashville, Tennessee, and Lipscomb Academy is part of the 2023 recruiting class. In that class, he was a three-star recruit rated as the No. 40 prospect in the state of Tennessee and the No. 71 quarterback, per the 247Sports Composite.

One note of intrigue is the Crystal Ball prediction on 247Sports. David Eickholt has already predicted that Hank Brown will join the Iowa Hawkeyes and that is certainly something to keep an eye on.

Florida football quarterback enters NCAA transfer portal

Gators QB Parker Leise has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Florida football quarterback Parker Leise has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.

Leise, a former three-star recruit by 247Sports, attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he set the school’s single-game passing record with 405 yards. He competed in the All-American Bowl combine, earning Top Performer honors and an All-Combine Team honorable mention.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 215-pound pro-style quarterback out of Prairie Village, Kansas, was part of the Gators’ 2023 recruiting class. However, with Florida’s crowded quarterback room featuring DJ Lagway and high-profile recruits, opportunities for Leise to see the field were limited.

For the Gators, Leise’s departure is part of the natural ebb and flow of roster management in the transfer portal era.

With four years of eligibility remaining, Leise will have ample opportunities to develop and grow as a quarterback. Programs in need of a young, dynamic passer will likely express interest in the talented signal-caller.
