Sweet 16 first look: Gonzaga vs. UCLA odds, lines and trends

Looking at Thursday’s Gonzaga vs. UCLA Sweet 16 odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The 3rd-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (30-5) meet the No. 2  UCLA Bruins (31-5) on Thursday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Tip is scheduled for approximately 9:45 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we look at Gonzaga vs. UCLA odds from Tipico Sportsbook. Plus, check out our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Gonzaga did the “survive and advance” thing, picking up an 84-81 win over TCU in the second round. It also topped Grand Canyon by an 82-70 score in the opening game, but it is 0-2 against the spread (ATS) so far, while hitting the Under in 3 of 4 games in the postseason. The Over (153) cashed against TCU to snap a 3-0 Under run.

In that win over the Horned Frogs, Gonzaga’s Hunter Sallis hit 2 free throws with 0.7 seconds left to go up 84-78, appearing to grab a cover as 4.5-point favorites at most shops. However, TCU rolled the ball to half-court, and Damion Baugh heaved a desperation 3-pointer from NBA range which went in before the buzzer for the bad beat, or really, the double bad beat.

UCLA throttled UNC Asheville of the Big South Conference in the opening round 86-53, scoring a 17.5-point number as the Over 136.5 cashed. It faced a much bigger challenge against Northwestern in the second round, winning 68-63, although the Wildcats hung on for the cover as 7.5-point underdogs.

The last time these teams met, on Nov. 23, 2021, also happened to be at T-Mobile Arena. Gonzaga came away with an impressive 83-63 victory, as current Bulldogs Drew Timme scored 18 points with 8 rebounds, and Julian Strawther posted 12 points with 9 boards.

The teams also met in the Final Four in Indianapolis on April 3, 2021, a 93-90 win in favor of Gonzaga, ending a Cinderella run by UCLA that season as an 11-seed in front of a partial capacity crowd at Lucas Oil Stadium due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

[pickup_prop id=”32597″]

UCLA’s last win in the series came on Dec. 12, 2015, in Spokane, a 71-66 victory. The Bulldogs have won 4 of the last 5 meetings since 2014.

This is their 3rd meeting in the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs won 74-62 in the South Region semifinal in 2015 at NRG Stadium in Houston, while UCLA won a thrilling 73-71 game against Gonzaga in 2006 in Oakland in the second round.

Sweet 16 first look: FAU vs. Tennessee odds, lines and trends

Looking at Thursday FAU vs. Tennessee Sweet 16 odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The 8th-seeded Florida Atlantic Owls (33-3) meet the No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers (25-10) on Thursday at Madison Square Garden. Tip is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we look at FAU vs. Tennessee odds from Tipico Sportsbook. Plus, check out our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

FAU entered this NCAA Tournament with an 0-1 record in the Big Dance. After a 66-65 win over Memphis, and a 78-70 victory against Fairleigh Dickinson, the Owls find themselves in unchartered territory, playing its first-ever game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In the win over FDU, Johnell Davis scored 29 points with 12 rebounds, 5  assists and 5 steals while going 10-of-16 from the field. Davis became the first player in Men’s NCAA Tournament history with 25+ points, 10+ rebounds, 5+ assists and 5+ steals.

The Owls have posted 9 straight victories, while going 6-3 against the spread (ATS) during the impressive run. The Over result against FDU snapped a 4-0 Under run in the postseason for the Owls.

Tennessee powered past Duke 65-52 as a 3-point underdog in the second round, which was much more impressive than its ugly 58-55 victory over Louisiana in the opening round.

The Vols have hit the Under in 3 of 4 games during the postseason, while going low on the total at a 9-4-1 clip in the last 14 games overall. Tennessee is looking for its 1st 3-game win streak since rattling off 4 straight victories and covers from Jan. 17-28.

FAU has never been the Sweet 16, while Tennessee makes its 1st appearance in the Sweet 16 since 2019 when it was bounced by Purdue in overtime.

Houston made it through the opening week of the tourney with victories over UAB (82-68 Friday) and Illinois (68-53 Sunday). The No. 15 team in the nation plays a slow-down style. The Cougars are 11-1 over their last 12 games and have held foes fewer than 60 points in six of those wins.

Arizona advanced with wins over Wright State (87-70 Friday) and TCU (85-80 Sunday). The Wildcats needed overtime to get by TCU on Sunday. The nation’s No. 2-ranked team plays at an ultra-fast pace, and they use those extra possessions to their advantage. UA owns the NCAA-I’s ninth most effective field-goal mark (55.9%) on offense and the fourth-best mark on defense (44.1%).
