National Championship Game first look: Purdue vs. UConn odds, lines and trends

What you need to know: NCAA Tournament early look at Monday’s Purdue vs. UConn National Championship Game odds.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Purdue Boilermakers (34-4) and UConn Huskies (36-3) will meet in the NCAA Tournament National Championship Game Monday in Glendale, Ariz. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:20 p.m. (TBS). Below, we look at Purdue vs. UConn odds from BetMGM Sportsbook before making our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The chalk took care of business in Saturday’s Final Four.

Purdue, a 9.5-point favorite and No. 1 seed out of the Midwest, knocked off NC State 63-50 in the 1st semifinal with the Under (147) easily cashing. In the nightcap, UConn, a 10-point fave and the East’s top seed, dispatched Alabama 86-72 with the Under (160.5) sneaking in as a winner.

The Wolfpack, the big underdog of the 4 semifinalists as an 11-seed, had no answers for the Boilermakers and C Zach Edey. The 7-foot-4 big man scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, leading the Boilers to the 2nd NCAA Championship Game in program history — they lost the 1969 title game to then-powerhouse UCLA.

Meanwhile, UConn is a win away from its 6th national title and from becoming the 1st repeat champion since the 2006-’07 Florida Gators. Only UCLA (11), Kentucky (8) and North Carolina (6) have more titles, while UConn is tied with Duke and Indiana at 5 championships apiece.

The Huskies, No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches PollPurdue is No. 3 — found themselves tied 56-all vs. the Crimson Tide with just over 12 minutes left in their semifinal. But behind a stingy defense, which held 4th-seeded Alabama without a field goal in a 5-minute stretch, UConn was able to close with a 30-16 run to move on.

Freshman G Stephon Castle (21 points) and 7-2 sophomore C Donovan Clingan (18 points) led the Huskies as all 5 starters scored in double-figures.

Purdue is 5-0 against the spread (ATS) in its 5 NCAA Tournament games with a 1-4 Over/Under showing, while UConn is also 5-0 ATS with the Under at 5-0.

The Boilermakers lead the all-time series 4-1.

The last time they played was in the 2009 NCAA Tournament — amazingly, in Glendale! — with UConn claiming a 72-60 victory in the Sweet 16.

Purdue won the previous meetings:

  • 73-69 in 1992 on a neutral floor in Springfield, Mass.
  • 88-73 in West Lafayette in 1988
  • 88-70 in Hartford in 1986

Final Four first look: NC State vs. Purdue odds, lines and trends

What you need to know: NCAA Tournament early look at Saturday’s NC State vs. Purdue Final Four odds.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The No. 11 seed NC State Wolfpack (26-14) and the top-seeded Purdue Boilermakers (33-4) meet in a Final Four matchup Saturday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:09 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we look at NC State vs. Purdue odds from BetMGM Sportsbook before making our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Wolfpack are 9-for-9 in the postseason, while covering 7 of those ACC and NCAA Tournament games. They’re also an on-fire 7-0 against the spread (ATS) in the past 7 as underdogs. It is NC State’s 1st trip to the Final Four since 1983 with coach Jim Valvano, when the “Cardiac Pack” stunned top-ranked Houston 54-52 to win the program’s 2nd national championship.

For the 14th time in NCAA history a school will have its men’s and women’s basketballs teams in the Final Fours. The NC State women won their Elite 8 game against Texas Sunday.

As for the Boilermakers, they gutted out a 72-66 win over the 2nd-seeded Tennessee Volunteers Sunday, covering as 3-point favorites, to punch their ticket to the program’s 1st Final Four since 1980. C Zach Edey was a one-man wrecking crew, going for 40 points on 13-of-21 shooting, while grabbing 16 rebounds against the Vols.

Purdue won and covered all 4 of its games in the NCAA Tournament, while cashing the Under in 3 of those 4 outings. The Boilermakers haven’t faced an ACC team since Nov. 30, 2022, when they won at Florida State 79-69. Purdue actually beat Duke 75-56 in the game prior to that on a neutral floor in Portland.

Purdue is No. 3 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, while NC State is unranked.

NC State vs. Purdue head-to-head

Ironically, Purdue is the last Big Ten team that NC State faced. On Dec. 12, 2021, the Boilermakers topped the Wolfpack 82-72 in OT at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Edey, who was just a sophomore then, finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. NC State G Casey Morsell played in that game, going for 3 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.

These teams have never met in the NCAA Tournament.

Purdue last faced an ACC team in the NCAA Tournament in 2019 when it fell 80-75 in OT to Virginia in the Elite 8. Prior to that, Purdue lost to Duke in the Sweet 16 in 2010. It also lost to Duke in 1994 in the Elite 8. The Boilermakers’ last win against an ACC team in the NCAA Tourney came in 1980 when they eliminated Duke in the Elite 8 — which happens to be the last time Purdue was in the Final Four.

NC State last faced a Big Ten team in the NCAA Tournament in 2005, falling to Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. The Wolfpack beat Michigan State in the first round in 2002, and it topped Iowa in 2OT in the second round of the 1989 tournament. It is 3-3 all time against the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament.

The North Carolina Tar Heels (28-9) and Duke Blue Devils (32-6) clash in a Final Four showdown Saturday in New Orleans. The rivalry battle at the Superdome is slated for an 8:49 tip-off. Below, we look at the North Carolina vs. Duke odds and lines; check back for our college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

North Carolina — the No. 8 seed from the East Region — is the fastest-paced team remaining in the tournament. The Tar Heels have averaged 77.5 points per game in going 11-1 since Feb. 19. Like their foes in this game, they are exceptional in keeping opposing shooters off the foul line. UNC is also a terrific defensive rebounding team.

Duke has advanced from the No. 2 seed in the East Region. The 10th-ranked team in the nation won the regular-season crown in the ACC. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski‘s final five in Durham is a young group but one among the best offensive teams in NCAA-I. Across four tourney games. the Devils have shot a robust 53.8% from the field.

Looking at Saturday’s Villanova vs. Kansas NCAA Tournament Final Four odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

The No. 2 seed Villanova Wildcats (30-7) and No. 1 seed Kansas Wildcats (32-6) will meet in a national semifinal game at the Final Four in New Orleans Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:09 p.m. ET (on TBS) from Caesars Superdome. ACC rivals Duke and North Carolina will face off later that night in the second Final Four matchup.

Below, we look at the Villanova vs. Kansas odds and lines; check back for our college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Villanova won its four NCAA tourney games by an average of 11.0 points and went a perfect 4-0 against the spread (ATS). The Under has hit in three in a row for the ‘Cats, and in six of their past seven games – all in the postseason.

He led the team in minutes (34.6 per game), is second in assists (2.3 per game) and third in rebounds (4.8 per game).

While Villanova has run off nine consecutive wins, Kansas also brings a nine-game winning streak into Saturday’s showdown. Plus, both teams are on 4-0 ATS streaks.

Kansas, which covered as a 5.5-point favorite, opened the second half with 19-5 run and outscored Miami 47-15 in the second half to become the only No. 1 seed to make this Final Four.

The Miami game cashed Under tickets and the Under is 3-1 in Kansas’ four NCAA Tournament games to date. Kansas outscored its four NCAA tourney opponents by an average of 16.25 points per game. The Jayhawks are No. 3 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports; the Wildcats are ranked fifth.
