NCAA sets deadline to withdraw from NBA draft

The NCAA has set a deadline to withdraw from the NBA draft and retain collegiate eligibility after the NBA announced their draft date today.

The NBA Draft usually happens at the end of June, right after the NBA Finals take place.  With the suspension of the NBA’s season and it now set to re-start at the end of July, the draft is slated to now happen on October 15.

The NCAA then announced the dates in which prospects can withdraw from the draft and return to school without losing any eligibility.

That deadline will occur ten days after the NBA Draft combine or August 3, whichever comes first.

Cassius Winston, Xavier Tillman in The Ringer’s top 50 NBA Draft prospects

Winston and Tillman both make the top 50 for NBA writer Kevin O’Connor

We don’t know when the NBA Draft will be, but that won’t stop the pre-draft media evaluation of prospects.

Cassius Winston and Xavier Tillman both made The Ringer’s top 50 prospects, put together by their NBA writer Kevin O’Connor. O’Connor and the Ringer staff did a fantastic job putting together an all-encompassing look at this year’s crop of prospects, so I can’t recommend enough you go give the full draft guide a look.

As for the MSU prospects; Winston checks in first at No. 34. Among his strengths O’Connor lists feel for the game, perimeter shooting, and playmaking. Winston’s blurb reads, “Gritty, unselfish point guard who plays winning basketball and made progress each season as a scorer,” with comparisons to Kyle Lowry and Yogi Ferrell. O’Connor also details strengths and weaknesses with the strengths being Winston’s shot-making and passing ability and his weaknesses being mostly athleticism related.

Tillman checks in a few spots later at No. 41. His blurb reads, “Winning player who can easily pair with star shot creators because of his playmaking and versatility,” with comparisons to Horace Grant and PJ Tucker. O’Connor praises Tillman’s defense and passing ability while worrying about his size and lack of explosiveness.

The 2020 NBA Draft is tentatively scheduled for June 25, but will likely be moved back as the NBA looks to continue its suspended season sometime in June.

NCAA and NBA indefinitely postpone the NBA Draft’s June 3 withdrawal deadline

The NCAA and NBA have decided to indefinitely postpone the NBA Drafts withdrawal deadline for early entry for draft prospects.

[jwplayer uiKRAikX]

The NBA & NCAA are indefinitely postponing the NBA’s June 3 withdrawal date for draft prospects. This is an early entry withdrawal date, allowing NBA-eligible prospects the ability to return to the NCAA. As of right now, there will be not a new date set until the NBA reveals information on the updated draft process.

Here is a Tweet from Shams Charania of The Athletic:

This decision affects Michigan State players Aaron Henry and Xavier Tillman, both of whom declared for the draft. The Spartans will not know about either player’s status for quite some time now. Note, Aaron Henry recently signed with an NCAA-certified agent which provides the possibility of a return to college. Xavier Tillman, on the other hand, is probably going to get drafted.

We will provide more information on the NBA Draft & Michigan State Draft Prospects when possible.
