Scottie Lewis selected by the Charlotte Hornets in the NBA draft

Scottie Lewis was taken in the second round of the NBA draft by the Charlotte Hornets. It’s the first time to Florida players have been drafted since 2011.

Many didn’t think Scottie Lewis would hear his name called during the 2021 NBA draft, but his wait finally came to an end with just five picks to go. The former Florida guard was selected with the 56th pick in the second round by the Charlotte Hornets.

After his former college teammate, Tre Mann, was taken in the first round with the 18th pick by Oklahoma City (ending a nine-year first-round drought and eight-year draft drought overall for UF), Lewis’ selection meant Florida’s first NBA draft with multiple players selected since Chandler Parsons and Vernon Macklin were both picked back in 2011.

There was a time when Lewis was considered a lottery pick as a top-10 recruit. But his two seasons at Florida were disappointing, and he decided to cut his losses and bolt to the NBA after the season. Here’s the analysis of the pick from ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

At one point projected as a lottery pick, Scottie Lewis had a disappointing two seasons at Florida, struggling to put the ball in the basket with any type of consistency, especially from beyond the arc. Regardless, he has strong potential defensively with his 7-foot wingspan and outstanding intensity level. He’ll likely see time in the G League working on his ball-handling, passing and shooting but does have some upside to tap into at 21 years old.

He’ll need to develop a much more cohesive offensive game to see playing time at the NBA level. But his stellar defensive acumen could help him see opportunities, even if they come at the G League level. The Hornets definitely took a flyer on Lewis and will hope his play can finally match his talent at some point.

Texas’ Kai Jones selected by the Charlotte Hornets in the first round of the 2021 NBA draft

Texas’ Kai Jones is taken off of the board in the first round!

The dreams for a young man out of The Bahamas just came true. Former Texas forward Kai Jones was taken with the 19th pick in the 2021 NBA draft, who the Charlotte Hornets acquired from the New York Knicks for a future first-round pick.

The sophomore had a breakout season that saw his numbers take a tremendous leap in every major statistical category. Jones averaged almost 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block per game. His shooting percentages also increased going from 50% in 2019 to 58% from the field in 2020, and his three point percentage rose from 29% to 38%. Jones came off the bench most of his career, but after Shaka Smart gave Greg Brown III as many chances as possible, Jones earned a starting role. Jones has a great upside, as he only started playing basketball four years ago.

His improved shooting along with his fantastic athleticism is very much valued in the NBA, as even if he does not start right away, which he likely won’t due to still being very raw, he will be able to come off the bench provide a rim running big that can space the floor.

Jones very much needs to get stronger and fill out his lanky frame, as he only weighed in at 218-pounds. He showed flashes of being able to guard around the perimeter, especially in the three matchups against Oklahoma State where he was tasked with guarding number one overall pick Cade Cunningham.

The former Longhorn has also shown the ability to make plays off the dribble, which is a great sign as he can maybe transform into a point-forward, but he does need work on his decision making as sometimes he would try to do too much with the ball and turn it over. Jones averaged 1.4 turnovers a game, but again he is newer to basketball, and utilized correctly will allow him to flourish.

Jones running the floor with LaMelo Ball is a dream for the Hornets. He can help in spacing the floor, and he will have two guards in UConn’s James Bouknight and Ball that will feed him and give him opportunities to score. The Hornets are a team that has depth at the forward position, so Jones will have time to develop.

This is a great fit for him.

Aaron Henry projected as first round pick in Rookie Wire’s final mock draft

Could Aaron Henry get drafted in the first round of Thursday’s NBA Draft? Cody Taylor of The Rookie Wire believes so

Could Aaron Henry get drafted in the first round of Thursday’s NBA Draft? Cody Taylor of The Rookie Wire believes so.

It had appeared Henry was sliding down the mock draft boards in recent weeks, but that’s not the case in Taylor’s final mock draft for The Rookie Wire. Taylor has Henry going No. 27 overall to the Brooklyn Nets.

Here’s a little bit of what Taylor had to say about Henry:

Henry, who was named to the All-Big Ten third team, has spent the pre-draft process training with two-time NBA champion Mike Miller. Entering the draft, the biggest knock on Henry was his shooting and he recently told Rookie Wire he has made big strides in that department.

It’s interesting to see Taylor have Henry higher than most of the other mock drafts I’ve recently seen but I’m not complaining. This would be a great landing spot for Henry, with a chance to come in and help a true championship contender next season.

Hopefully, Taylor’s projection comes true and we hear Henry’s name called early on Thursday night. Click on the link below to see the complete mock draft from Taylor:

Aaron Henry left off latest NBA Mock Draft from NBADraft.net

Aaron Henry’s draft stock is dropping to the point where he may not be selected in the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft later this month

[mm-video type=video id=01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7 playlist_id=01eqbz825g32p3akwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7/01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7-220dbd1cb0cca8f7968f4c0f736468bc.jpg]

Aaron Henry’s draft stock is apparently dropping to the point where he may not be selected in the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft later this month.

Henry — who led Michigan State in points, rebounds and assists this past season — was not listed in NBADraft.net’s updated two-round mock draft released on Wednesday. Henry was once considered a fringe late first-round pick and near-lock to be selected at least in the second round.

Last week, Henry was projected to go in the late second round in For The Win’s updated mock draft. So it appears going in the first round is no more an option for Henry and late second round is where he could potentially land.

The 2021 NBA Draft will take place on July 29 and will be televised on ESPN.

Aaron Henry projected as first round pick in CBS Sports mock NBA Draft

Aaron Henry will be selected in the first round of this year’s NBA Draft, according to CBS Sports.

[mm-video type=video id=01f7yscvre2m5m52arf1 playlist_id=01eqbz825g32p3akwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f7yscvre2m5m52arf1/01f7yscvre2m5m52arf1-fc0e4597bb44ed4a5500b5dde1bd39cc.jpg]

Aaron Henry will be selected in the first round of this year’s NBA Draft, according to CBS Sports.

Kyle Boone of CBS Sports released an updated version of his 2021 NBA mock draft earlier this week, and Henry is slated to go late in the first round. Boone has the Los Angeles Clippers selecting Henry with the No. 25 overall pick.

Henry is the second highest-picked player from the Big Ten in this mock draft, only behind Franz Wagner of Michigan.

Here’s some of what was said about Henry and the positive impact he could make on the Clippers:

Henry gives the team another body at the position as a college vet with good size who has high-level role-playing potential and a smooth floater.

Henry averaged 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game this past season, and was by far the Spartans’ best player.

The 2021 NBA Draft will be held on July 29 at 8 p.m. EDT. Hopefully, we’ll hear Henry’s name called relatively early that night just like CBS Sports is projecting.

Izzo issues statement on Aaron Henry entering NBA Draft – ‘Can’t wait to see his future’

Aaron Henry’s decision to enter the NBA Draft came as no surprise to MSU head coach Tom Izzo, and is a decision he “fully supports.”

[mm-video type=video id=01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7 playlist_id=01eqbz825g32p3akwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7/01f2pav0x1m3h4yep3a7-220dbd1cb0cca8f7968f4c0f736468bc.jpg]

Aaron Henry’s decision to enter his name into the NBA Draft came as no surprise to Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo, and is a decision he “fully supports.”

Henry officially announced on Monday that he would forgo his final season at Michigan State to enter his name into the NBA Draft. This decision was expected by many — including Izzo — after Henry put together an impressive junior season for the Spartans.

Here is a bit of what Izzo had to say about Henry’s decision to go pro:

“Aaron making the decision to put his name in for the NBA Draft this year is not surprising and is something I fully support. He and his family went through the exploration process last year and came away with a much better understanding of what he’d need to do in order to make the next step for his basketball career.

“Like every college player, Aaron had to go through many adjustments in his workout and practice schedule because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the hurdles he had to go through, Aaron led our team in virtually every statistical category and, in my mind, was one of the best players in the Big Ten Conference. I know Aaron is determined to make this next step in his career and I’m going to give him all the help that I can so that he can achieve his dreams.”

You can read Izzo’s full statement on Henry’s departure in the tweet below or by clicking here.

Henry finished this past season averaging 15.4 points, 3.6 assists, 5.6 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game.

Henry is currently projected as a late first round or early second round pick in this year’s upcoming NBA Draft.

Aaron Henry slotted as late first round pick in latest mock draft from The Athletic

Aaron Henry is averaging 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season.

[mm-video type=video id=01f0vj5063wmwqbb05 playlist_id=none player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01f0vj5063wmwqbb05/01f0vj5063wmwqbb05-844a60f53db1769f79f329ecbb947d3a.jpg]

Aaron Henry has been incredible for the Spartans down the stretch and is the primary reason why Michigan State is in the NCAA Tournament. That great play has been noticed by Sam Vecenie of The Athletic in his latest mock draft.

Vecenie released his latest mock draft ahead of the NCAA Tournament starting this week, and he has Henry going in the first round of this year’s upcoming NBA Draft. Vecenie currently projects Henry to be selected No. 28 overall to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Henry is averaging 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. He has especially been impressive in the final month and half for the Spartans, scoring just under 18 points per game during the final eight games that saved Michigan State’s season.

Henry is a junior and of course could return to East Lansing for his senior season in 2021-22, however, there’s no chance of that happening should he potentially get drafted in the first round. A nice NCAA Tournament run could potentially secure that for Henry.
