Paul Finebaum ‘all-in’ on the Georgia Bulldogs

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum explains that he is “all-in” on UGA football

With the Georgia Bulldogs now being No. 1 on the US LBM Coaches Poll, there are several people considering them as the favorites to win the national championship. One of those people is ESPN anchor Paul Finebaum, and a few days ago, he doubled down on it. According to a recent interview he did on SportsCenter, he is “all-in” on Georgia football.

“I’m all-in, and I know that is saying a great deal after watching Texas play (against Michigan), but I feel like Georgia is a notch above,” Finebaum said.

“They’ll get each other in the middle of October and we can settle that. By the way, there’s a chance Georgia and Texas could play three times this year: in October, in Atlanta in December, and some time, probably for the national championship. I think they are that elite, but I think Georgia is in a class of its own and that’s why I am all-in.”

It appears that Paul Finebaum is not straying away from his preseason national championship prediction. He predicted that Georgia would win it all ahead of the 2024 college football season.

It’s interesting that he mentions the Texas Longhorns, considering that some people, like Joel Klatt, consider them on the same tier as Georgia. Texas is currently No. 3 on the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Kirk Herbstreit predicts national championship winner

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit thinks a Big Ten team will win the College Football Playoff, bring home a national title

ESPN “College GameDay” analyst and college football expert Kirk Herbstreit has predicted who he thinks will win the national championship. Herbstreit thinks the Oregon Ducks will win their first national title.

Herbstreit has the Georgia Bulldogs as his No. 1 seed in the 12-team College Football Playoff, but he does not think Georgia will win a national title despite winning the SEC.

He predicts Ohio State will win the Big Ten to earn the No. 2 seed. Herbstreit likes Clemson to win the ACC and has Clemson as his No. 3 seed. The former Ohio State quarterback predicts Utah will win the Big 12 in its first season in the conference to earn the No. 4 seed.

Herbstreit’s national champion, Oregon, is the No. 5 seed in the playoff. He expects either the Ducks or the winner of the first-round game between No. 8 Penn State vs. No. 9 Notre Dame will beat Georgia in the playoff.

Herbstriet also has Texas (No. 6), Missouri (No. 7), Florida State (No. 10), Michigan (No. 11) and Boise State (No. 12) making the 12-team playoff.

Perhaps Herbstreit’s biggest surprise is that he does not have Alabama making the playoff. “You totally disrespected Alabama, man. I can’t believe it,” said former Alabama coach Nick Saban.

Herbstreit loves how the expanded playoff makes it more interesting and competitive for teams that have one or two losses. In the past, many fan bases would check out after a few losses. Now, more teams will stay relevant for much longer into the season.

Kirk Herbstreit and the GameDay crew made their national championship predicts in Week 0 before the Georgia Tech-Florida State game.

Former Alabama coach Nick Saban makes national championship prediction

College football analyst Nick Saban predicts that five SEC teams including the Georgia Bulldogs will make the playoff.

ESPN “College GameDay” analyst and former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban predicts the Georgia Bulldogs will win the national championship.

Saban is giving Kirby Smart and company some rat poison ahead of the Bulldogs’ season opener against the Clemson Tigers. Saban predicts Georgia will defeat the Texas Longhorns in the 2024 SEC championship game. He has Georgia as the No. 1 team in his projected College Football Playoff.

The former Alabama coach also predicts Ohio State will win the Big Ten to secure the No. 2 seed. In his prediction, which he made before Week 0, he has Florida State winning the ACC and ending up as the No. 3 seed. He thinks Utah will win the Big 12 to earn the final first round bye of the playoff.

Saban’s No. 5 seed in the playoff is Texas. He predicts the Longhorns will face Liberty (the No. 12 seed) in the opening round of the playoff. Saban loves the SEC. He has five SEC teams making his playoff including Ole Miss (No. 8), Alabama (No. 7) and LSU (No. 11).

The other teams that Saban predicts will make the playoff are Penn State (No. 9), Oregon (No. 6) and Notre Dame (No. 10).

“It’s gonna be crazy,” said Saban on the expanded playoff. As college football fans, crazy is what we love.

Paul Finebaum predicts SEC team to win national championship

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum predicts who will win the College Football Playofff

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum predicts the Georgia Bulldogs will navigate the expanded College Football Playoff and win their third national title in four seasons.

“I like Georgia, I am not as sold on Georgia as I was last year,” said Finebaum. “And the reason I am a little bit leery is Ohio State may have the best roster as we continue to say, but Georgia is still the pick to win it all.”

Head coach Kirby Smart and Georgia narrowly missed the 2023 playoff after losing a three-point game to Alabama in the 2023 SEC championship game.

Finebaum and ESPN’s Heather Dinich both like Bulldogs to win a national championship despite facing a tough schedule. Georgia’s difficult 2024 slate features a trio of challenging road games at Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas.

ESPN’s Mike Greenberg went in another direction. He’s predicting Ohio State will win the national championship.

Georgia has extremely high expectations in 2024. The Dawgs are predicted to win the SEC. Georgia is the preseason No. 1 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and in the AP Poll.

Paul Finebaum picks national championship winner

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum can’t pick against Nick Saban and Alabama in the national championship game

ESPN college football analyst and SEC football expert Paul Finebaum has made his pick for the national championship game between Georgia and Alabama.

Finebaum predicted on ESPN’s First Take that Alabama would defeat Georgia to win a second consecutive national championship. Finebaum cites Alabama’s edge in the coaching match-up as a big reason he’s rolling with the Crimson Tide. The ESPN college football analyst thinks the game will be closer than the SEC championship.

“I am not going against Nick Saban… I think Georgia may have the better team on paper but I don’t think a lot has changed.” Finebaum declared on First Take. “You mentioned (injured star Alabama wide receiver John) Metchie, other than that, I think it’s the same two teams and I think we’ll get, not a similar result in terms of a three- or four-touchdown win. But I think Alabama will win this game.”

Four years ago the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs played for a national championship. Will the 2022 game end up any different?  Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

It’s hard to disagree with Paul Finebaum. Nick Saban and No. 1 Alabama are dominating college football once again. The Crimson Tide have the game’s two top players in Heisman-winning quarterback Bryce Young and quarterback-disrupting defensive end Will Anderson.

Kirby Smart and Georgia football need a big game from quarterback Stetson Bennett and an improved effort from the defense to prove Finebaum and others wrong. The Dawgs have to win the turnover margin, have more consistent play in secondary, and do a better job of pressuring Bryce Young.

Richard Sherman makes national championship pick

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman is rolling with Alabama over Georgia in the national championship.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Richard Sherman is rolling with Alabama in the national championship. Sherman does not think the game will be close.

Sherman thinks Georgia and Alabama should have played again in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Sherman would have ranked Cincinnati over Georgia in the final CFP rankings due to the Bearcats’ undefeated season.

Sherman, who made the pick on his podcast, does not understand why Georgia is favored in the game (according to the Tipico Sportsbook, the Bulldogs are favored by 2.5 points). Sherman, an 11-season NFL veteran, predicts Alabama will win 35-17.

Sherman notably played with the Seattle Seahawks from 2011-2017. He has won one Super Bowl in his NFL career.

The College Football Playoff will end with a rematch of the 2017 national championship game. Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Fortunately, the national championship game still has to be played. Sherman knows a lot about football, but he does not follow college as closely as the NFL. Throughout the week, the media is expected to side with Alabama and why not?

Nick Saban and Alabama are the gold standard in this era of college football. Alabama has won seven straight games over UGA. Georgia should not be picked to defeat Alabama until it actually beats the Crimson Tide on the field.

FiveThirtyEight projects winner of national championship game

FiveThirtyEight is projecting the Georgia Bulldogs to win the national championship against Alabama

FiveThirtyEight is projecting the Georgia Bulldogs to win the national championship. Their model expects it to be a close game between Georgia and Alabama.

FiveThirtyEight gives UGA a 56% chance to win the national game, which is interesting considering Georgia’s recent results against the Crimson Tide.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is 0-4 in his career against Nick Saban including a loss in the 2021 SEC championship.

Alabama defeated Cincinnati 27-6 in the College Football Playoff semifinals to advance to the national championship. Georgia dominated Michigan in a 34-11 victory over the Wolverines.

Alabama is the only team to score over 17 points all season against Georgia’s stout defense. Bryce Young and Jameson Williams embarrassed UGA in the SEC championship, but now Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, and company will get a shot at redemption.

Georgia’s defense must find a way to impact Bryce Young. The Bulldogs did not sack Young in their SEC championship loss. Additionally, Georgia must win the turnover battle against the Crimson Tide.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett threw a pair of interceptions in the SEC championship including a pick-six. Bennett must protect the football in the national championship. Georgia’s defense did force a Bryce Young fumble, but Young recovered.

The Dawgs will need their best performance of the season in order to beat Alabama as FiveThirtyEight predicts.

Gonzaga vs Baylor Game Preview

Why Baylor Will Win

Did Baylor need a half court shot in overtime to beat an 11 seed? No, it needed about seven minutes to end the blowout win over Houston on the way to a 25-point halftime lead and a 78-59 win.

The Bears have been close to perfect throughout the tournament, getting better and stronger as the fun has gone on with good shooting inside and out, a D that’s been a killer against the three, and most importantly against the Zags, no problems with turnovers.

Gonzaga does a whole lot of things right, but it’s about to turn the lights out like no one in America when the takeaways start coming. Why wasn’t it able to put away UCLA until the very last shot? The Bruins turned it over a mere ten times in the 45 minutes. Baylor hasn’t had a double-digit turnover game in the last four rounds.

Gonzaga will hit its shots, but along with not giving them the easy momentum baskets on the move, everything as to be contested. UCLA was outstanding at bothering the Bulldogs just a little bit – they had to work to hit 59% from the field – and there weren’t enough second chance points to matter.

There might not be a ton of size compared to Gonzaga, but everyone can move, everyone can shoot well, and everyone forces a whole lot of mistakes by guarding hard everywhere.

Why Gonzaga Will Win

Too many weapons.

It took a nearly perfect game by UCLA to stay in it, and it still lost.

The Bruins were lights out from the field – it’s not like they were hitting a ton of open, uncontested shots on the way to a 58% night – there were few big mistakes, and everything was dropping from three against a defense that’s great at bothering the outside shooters.

UCLA didn’t have any answer for 6-10 Drew Timme going all Tim Duncan on the inside, and there’s no accounting for Jalen Suggs.

Yeah, Suggs will be remembered for that, and for the block and overhanded, thread-the-needle bounce pass to Timme for a score, but he’s also been a killer on defense, too.

All five main men can score, Timme has taken his game up a few notches, and the team continues to win even with Corey Kispert being more steady than take-over-sensational – if you can call averaging 17 points in the tournament just okay.

Gonzaga has no issues getting on the move with Baylor, it’ll keep working inside as much as possible, and the defense that continues to not get its due won’t get hit for 58% from the field two games in a row.

The Bulldogs will win the battle on the boards, on the free throw line, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Gonzaga will win to finish 32-0 – the same record as the 1976 Indiana team ended up with as the last undefeated national championship winner.

The Bulldogs were overdue to get pushed. USC had the right defensive style, size, and blend to get it done, but that all went bye-bye two minutes in.

UCLA balled out hard and had its chances to pull it off, but Gonzaga still managed to fight through to move on.

Baylor will miss that one extra free throw, will give up that one extra foul, and will fail to get enough defensive big stops in the interior to let Gonzaga start to pull away just a bit.

Don’t expect another Gonzaga thriller, but it’ll be wildly entertaining, each team will go on plenty of big runs, and the game between these two that we were supposed to get in December will be more than worth the wait.
