Recruiting Story

Owusu-Boateng was arguably Michigan football’s top choice on the defensive side of the ball, but with his brother having played at Notre Dame, it was an uphill climb. Still, he was considering the Wolverines, ND, Ohio State, and USC before Texas and Colorado made late pushes. It came down to the Wolverines and Colorado, but he pulled the trigger on signing day for the maize and blue.

Readiness Level

Likely a year-two contributor due to the depth ahead of him.

Notes

  • Committed Dec. 4, 2024
  • Already had two IMG Academy teammates committed (Kaden Strayhorn and Donovan Johnson)

Scouting report

The scouting report from 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins:

Speed-and-space linebacker that can hawk down ball carriers and spy quarterbacks. Tips the scales at just over 6-foot, 200 pounds and appears to still have some growth potential with his lean, muscular build. Started prep career off in the DMV before arriving at IMG Academy where he emerged as a team leader in advance of senior season. At his best in chase mode, but has shown over the years that he’s willing to attack blockers or play around them. Tends to strike opponents when the opportunity presents itself. Has proven to be rather effective against the pass as he’s athletic and agile enough to mirror tight ends underneath or down the seam. Should be viewed as a potential impact player at the Power Four level. Might lack the payload at this stage to hold up against a true down-hill run game, but sideline-to-sideline range could lead to plenty of success on Saturdays.

Michigan football gets commitment top defensive target in 2025

He’s in! #GoBlue

Some players are higher on the board than others, no matter the recruiting ranking. Which is why it’s a good thing for Michigan football that arguably its top defensive target in 2025 is one of the more highly-rated players in the country.

2025 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng may be a Notre Dame legacy as his brother played there, but he wasn’t a lock to end up in South Bend. It seemed like it earlier in the process, but the Wolverines were persistently among his top choices and after every visit, he raved about Ann Arbor.

It came down to Michigan and Colorado and on early signing day, Owusu-Boateng chose to wear maize and blue.

He made his decision known on ESPN 2.

Here is how he ranks according to the recruiting services:

ESPN 4 81 8 13
Rivals 5 28 2 7

The rankings are all over the place, with most services having him as a four-star, On3 as a three-star, and Rivals as a five-star.

With Owusu-Boateng in the fold, Michigan has its middle linebacker of the future. He’s the 22nd commit in the 2025 cycle and second linebacker in the class.

Top Michigan football defensive target gets crystal ball prediction

Big time! #GoBlue

Michigan football is still working to finish the 2025 recruiting class. While all eyes are on Belleville, Michigan, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, there are other important targets out there.

Perhaps the biggest on the defensive side of the ball is 2025 Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng,  whose brother played for Notre Dame.

The Irish, Wolverines, Texas, Colorado and Ohio State have been in contention for the elite linebacker. Owusu-Boateng has been on campus for unofficial visits to two games this season but will not shut down his recruiting process until the early signing period opens on Dec. 4.

However, one notable recruiting insider believes he end up choosing the Wolverines.

On Wednesday, 247Sports’ Tom Loy put in a prediction that Owusu-Boateng will choose Michigan football come December.

If he decides for Michigan, that would make three commits in 2025 from the illustrious IMG Academy. The Wolverines have pledges from four-star running back Donovan Johnson and three-star center Kaden Strayhorn, an MSU legacy.

Top Michigan football defensive target sets another visit

Huge news! #GoBlue

Michigan football has made no secret that it strongly covets 2025 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng.

Owusu-Boateng appears to be strongly considering Michigan along with Notre Dame, USC, Colorado, Texas, Ohio State, and Florida with the Wolverines and Irish seemingly being atop his choices. He most recently visited for the USC game in Week 4 and every time he’s made it to campus, he’s done nothing but give Ann Arbor and the staff rave reviews.

And he’s coming back for more.

The elite linebacker announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he will be in town, once again, this time for the maize and blue’s big tilt against No. 1 Oregon.

At the moment, Michigan only has one linebacker target committed in three-star Chase Taylor. However, Owusu-Boateng is among the Wolverines’ top targets in the entire cycle and his visit on Saturday will hopefully answer any remaining questions he may have.

He is set to make his final decision on early signing day on Dec. 4.

247Sports predicts where star 2025 linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng ends up

Let’s hope they are correct

One of Notre Dame football’s biggest remaining recruiting class of 2025 targets is linebacker [autotag]Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng[/autotag].

The brother of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah did include the Irish in his top-6 that he released last month, as he officially visited in early June. He’s made trips to all of his top contenders, and it seems like a matter of time before NOB makes a decision.

On Thursday a 247Sports panel handicapped the race for his commitment (subscription required), and it looks like there could be some good news for Notre Dame in the future. Of the five that took part in this prediction, only one, Brice Marich, a Michigan insider, picked against the Irish.

Tom Loy, Eric Thomas and Gerard Martinez all believe that Owusu-Boateng will ultimately select Notre Dame, while Hank South couldn’t make a decision between the Irish and Wolverines.

I’ll take those odds for Notre Dame to land the nation’s No. 76 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. With a visit scheduled for November to South Bend, the Irish could put themselves in the drivers seat for his verbal.

Ben Davis High School senior Thomas Gotkowski (3) is hit by IMG Academy High School junior Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng (11) as he runs the ball out of the backfield during the first half of an IHSAA varsity football game, Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at Ben Davis High School.

Notre Dame’s top 2025 linebacker target has narrowed his list down to six

The Irish are firmly in his recruitment

While the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2025 recruiting class is almost full, there is still room for a few big time prospects.

One of those targets is Florida linebacker [autotag]Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng[/autotag], the younger brother of former Irish star [autotag]Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 205-pound star has taken some of his official visits already, as he visited South Bend in early June.

There is a visit to see the Texas Longhorns in mid-October, but before Owusu-Boateng makes that trip, he trimmed his list down to six schools: Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Florida Gators, USC Trojans, Texas and the Irish.

It’s an impressive collection of schools, as many of them are annually national contenders to bring home some hardware. Notre Dame has a slight advantage with JOK, as they should try and use their prior relationship in their favor.

The nation’s No. 75 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings has yet to narrow down a commitment date, so NOB’s recruitment could go down to the wire.

Notre Dame Football Makes Top Five for Star Recruit Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng

Down to five for the Notre Dame legacy linebacker

One of the nation’s top linebackers in the 2025 recruiting class has narrowed his list of potential schools to just five and Notre Dame has made the cut.

[autotag]Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng[/autotag] is rated as the nation’s top outside linebacker according to Rivals and is the brother of former Notre Dame standout [autotag]Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoa[/autotag]h, who now stars for the Cleveland Browns.

On Wednesday, Owusu-Boateng announced his top-five schools and as you would probably imagine, all five are true bluebloods:  Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, and USC joined Notre Dame in his top-five.

https://twitter.com/_nob11/status/1806018587594781006

Owusu-Boateng is listed at 6-0.5″, 205-pounds and stars and national powerhouse IMG Academy in Florida.  He visited Notre Dame earlier this month as well as USC, Ohio State, and Michigan in the last few weeks.

Owusu-Boateng didn’t set any dates as to when his list of five will turn into just one.

One of Notre Dame’s top remaining targets spotted wearing Irish gear at Rivals250 Camp

This could be a preview of good news to come for the Irish

As we have seen multiple times over the last few recruiting classes, Notre Dame football tends to go after players with football bloodlines.

One of those recruits is [autotag]Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng[/autotag], brother of former Irish star linebacker [autotag]Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah[/autotag]. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 205-pound Florida star is seen as of the remaining top priorities for Notre Dame, and made an official visit at the beginning of June.

The nation’s No. 75 overall player and 9th ranked linebacker according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings is currently at the Rivals250 camp, and decided to check in wearing Irish gear. It’s difficult to take much from this, but it has to be a good sign for Notre Dame.

Playing the apparel game while a recruit is very common, but it typically gives a hint as to where they are leaning to. Hopefully Owusu-Boateng isn’t trolling and will eventually commit to Notre Dame.

‘The people’ exceeded Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng’s expectations on Michigan visit

Knocked it out of the park! #GoBlue

At the linebacker position in the 2025 recruiting class, no player is a higher priority for Michigan football than Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng. And he felt it while in Ann Arbor for his official visit.

Michigan was already one of his top schools and he’s been on campus previously. But this time things felt different. Part of it was being able to have his family in tow, but ultimately, the attention he received from the coaching staff truly exceeded his expectations.

“I would definitely say that the people there are different,” Owusu-Boateng told WolverinesWire. “From Coach Moore, all the way down to the recruiting people. To Sam Popper, to Wink, to Coach BJ. I just felt like that could possibly be a fit for me. Because everything I felt — everything just felt right. From the academic meeting (and) presentation, just talking to Coach Moore and just seeing how much love that they poured into me.

“So just getting all of that. And of course, my family being up here with me, because the first time they wasn’t. So now my uncle, my auntie, my mom, my dad, just being up there with them this time, it was a great feeling.”

What about this visit was different for him than what he anticipated previously? There were certain expectations that Owusu-Boateng had coming into his final official visit, that he was going to go through the standard paces of activities, photo shoots, campus tours, and the like.

But, again, he couldn’t stress enough how enamored he was with the people in and around Schembechler Hall.

“So coming in, I thought it was going to be like the rest of these visits. Something about this one, in particular, just stood out to me. And that was the people,” Owusu-Boateng said. “The people there really care about you, the people, they really care about your development, not only as a football player, but as a man. So, the development part of it, and not only that, but the people. That’s something that I’m gonna emphasize this whole interview, the people there they just — I don’t know, like, it’s different.”

In recent weeks, he’s visited Notre Dame (where his brother played) and Ohio State. This particular visit, however — again, because of the people — ended up being the best of the bunch in his eyes.

“I mean, this one stood out, but others stood out as well,” Owusu-Boateng said. “But I would say that this one stood out the most to me because my expectations coming in and weren’t that hot, but then when I left, my expectations were exceeded. So this one definitely left a good impression on me.”

Earlier on Sunday, one of his high school teammates, four-star running back Donovan Johnson, committed to the Wolverines. While another, center Kaden Strayhorn, received predictions across multiple recruiting sites indicating that Michigan will be his eventual school of choice.

With that in mind, is there talk of the trio (and others at IMG Academy) all playing together in Ann Arbor? It turns out there is, but that won’t necessarily be the deciding factor for Owusu-Boateng.

“Right now, I just know talk currently. But those guys are just reaching out to me, just letting me know that we can not only do this on the high school level, but we can carry it on and do it at the collegiate level, as well.”

Before his slate of official visits, Owusu-Boateng was eyeing early signing day in December for his likely decision, but wasn’t ruling out making a late-summer commitment. Now he says that everything is a bit up in the air, and he could hold true to his original timeline, but if things feel right, he may speed things up a bit.

“My timeline right now is just to go through everything and (whittle it down to the) top two. If I can commit before the season, that’s great. If not, then commit sometime during the season. If not that, then early signing day. But this is something I definitely don’t want to rush. I definitely will make sure that everything I need to make sure of after it happens.”

Owusu-Boateng is rated as the No. 70 prospect in the country, regardless of position, according to 247Sports.

Notre Dame target Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng has a great official visit

Is good news on the way for the Irish?

One of Notre Dame football’s top 2025 targets is extremely familiar with the program.

[autotag]Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng[/autotag], brother of [autotag]Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah[/autotag], took his official visit to South Bend this weekend. The two siblings were on campus together and there was an extremely interesting development following the trip.

On3’s Kyle Kelly is reporting that NOB could be moving up his commitment timeframe, and that should be viewed as extremely positive news for the Irish. At 6-foot, 1-inch and 205-pounds, he’s ranked as the nations No. 75 overall prospect and 9th ranked linebacker according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Notre Dame currently has one other linebacker commit for the class, Ko’o Kia.

Owusu-Boateng would be a massive addition to the Irish class. Hopefully the visit continues to resonate for him and he eventually commits to Notre Dame.
