Four-star priority wide receiver lists Clemson in top five

Clemson just landed in the top five of a priority wide receiver recruit.

Clemson has been active in recruiting over the past few months, and another priority 2023 recruit named the Tigers as a finalist on Thursday.

According to On3Recruits, four-star wide receiver Noah Rogers listed the Tigers in his top five, with Florida State, Ohio State, North Carolina and NC State being the other four schools. The 6-foot-2 pass-catcher is the No. 10 receiver recruit in the country and the No. 1 recruit in North Carolina, according to 247Sports Composite.

Clemson offered Rogers on Jan. 12, and if he commits, the Tigers would add to their 2023 recruiting class, which has three four-star commits, including quarterback Christopher Vizzina and wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph.

Clemson’s 2023 class is ranked No. 19 in the country in ESPN’s most recent recruiting rankings, but there is still work to be done. Rogers would be a huge addition for the Tigers, who dealt with many injuries at the receiver position last season.

Clemson adds four-star edge defender to 2023 class

Clemson added its fourth 2023 commitment on Wednesday, and it’s a huge get for the Tigers.

Clemson gained its fourth 2023 commitment on Wednesday after four-star edge David Ojiegbe selected the Tigers over Maryland, Miami, Michigan and North Carolina.

According to 247Sports Composite, the 6-foot-3 defensive end is the 20th edge in the class of 2023. Ojiegbe’s commitment comes just under two months after the Tigers offered the high school junior on March 5.

With Ojiegbe’s commitment, the Tigers now have the 23rd 2023 class, according to 247Sports. Along with Ojiegbe, Clemson has received commitments from four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina, four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph and three-star tight end Reid Mikeska.

With defensive ends Xavier Thomas and K.J. Henry gone after the 2022 season, Ojiegbe will join the Tigers at a time when those two spots will need to be filled.

There were some leftovers from our in-depth conversation with Christopher Vizzina, including what’s next for the Briarwood Christian (Alabama) product after he verbally pledged to Clemson on Tuesday.

Well, being that Vizzina is one of only two commits in Clemson’s 2023 recruiting class, it may be time for the four-star quarterback to put on his recruiting cap. It sure sounds like he’s already hit the ground running as Vizzina is already recruiting one of his close friends, who Clemson fans that follow recruiting may already know.

“Definitely somebody that me and him are really good friends and everything — Hunter Osborne,” Vizzina told The Clemson Insider Sunday. “I feel like just from hearing what the coaches feel like is a true defensive lineman for Clemson, I feel like he fits everything like that on and off the field. I’m gonna do my best to get him here.”

Osborne — a four-star defensive lineman out of Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) — attended the Tigers’ second junior day of the year — their “spring elite day” — on Saturday, March 5, and left with an offer from Clemson in hand.

“I don’t know the exact spot, but they’re some of the best of the best in my recruitment,” he said when asked where Clemson currently stands for him. “I don’t want to put an exact number because anything can happen, anything can change, but they’re definitely up there.”

Nine days later, Osborne announced a top 10 that featured the Tigers along with Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Auburn, Southern Cal and Oregon.

Osborne isn’t the only prospect that Vizzina will recruit, but he’ll need to get with Clemson’s other commit in this class — Edison (Miami, Fla.) four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph — and determine which guys they want to target.

“I have his number and all his contact information and everything like that,” Vizzina said of Joseph. “Me and him will get together and get on some calls and figure out who we want to build the class with.

“I think now, the receiver recruiting might start really following me because now they know who the quarterback is in the class. I feel like the quarterback piece in recruiting, if you are at another position and you’re looking at schools, you want to know who the quarterback is and so I feel like this really gonna boost the recruiting for Clemson.”

The man responsible for Clemson’s wide receiver recruiting is wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham, who Vizzina has grown closer with since he’s taken over the role of recruiting coordinator.

“I know he’s gonna recruit the best receivers and coach the best receivers in the country,” he said of Grisham, “and so, that was kind of his pitch to me. That was something that really stood out too about Clemson. I knew every year that they were gonna have the best receivers or have the best receiving corps. As a quarterback, you want to be able to throw to the guys that can make some plays. That was not a huge factor in my decision, but something that stood out compared to other places.”

Now that Vizzina is on board, other dominos should start to fall for Clemson. Judging by the social media reaction he received Tuesday, there are definitely a lot of talented recruits who are gonna want to play with the nation’s No. 6 quarterback prospect.

5-star wideout in contact with Grisham, aiming to visit Clemson this summer

The Clemson Insider recently spoke with Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Opa Locka, Fla.) five-star receiver Jeremiah Smith. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound sophomore currently ranks as the No. 2 wideout and the nation’s No. 15 overall prospect in the 2024 class, …

The Clemson Insider recently spoke with Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Opa Locka, Fla.) five-star receiver Jeremiah Smith. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound sophomore currently ranks as the No. 2 wideout and the nation’s No. 15 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

While the Tigers can’t actively reach out to Smith yet because of NCAA rules and the fact he is a sophomore, Smith estimates that he talks with Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham about once a month. According to Smith, they’re building a great relationship right now and focusing on the family aspect of things.

“I talked to Coach Grisham last Wednesday,” Smith said. “He was just talking about how he wants me to get up there sometime, probably in the summertime or something like that. Coach Grisham, I see him as a great guy. He’s a great coach. He wants to get you better. He’s a great father to his kids, and a great husband to his wife.”

Smith can see an offer coming, but he knows that he needs to get up to Clemson this summer. and see how everything is up there. While he would love that offer in hand, Smith is appreciative that Clemson wants to build a relationship with him and his family before he receives that coveted offer. He’s not in any rush to receive one.

For Smith, it’s intriguing to hear from a school like Clemson because of the program’s history at the receiver position with guys like DeAndre Hopkins and Tee Higgins. The Florida ties that Clemson has in the receiver room are also eye-opening for Smith, with guys like Troy Stellato and the lone class of 2023 commit Ray-Ray Joseph being from his area.

Smith plays for the South Florida Express, one of the best top 7-on-7 teams in the nation. Joseph also plays for SFE, but he is on the class of 2023 team, while Smith plays with the ’24s.

“He’s told me that I need to visit Clemson,” Smith said regarding what he’s heard from Joseph about the Tigers. “It’s a great experience up there. He told me that I need to get the offer because they need me up there and just stuff like that. So, I’m just waiting for the offer.”

“Clemson, they are getting back to the way it used to be,” he continued,” because last season they didn’t have their best season. I feel like they’ll have a way better season than they had last year and get back to the way Clemson used to be.”

Smith has recently made visits to Miami and Florida State, he just visited SMU this past weekend and he’s planning on visiting Ohio State sometime this week.

Dabo Swinney was spotted on the recruiting trail in the Sunshine State Thursday.

Clemson’s head coach made his first stop Venice (Fla.) High School. Swinney met with the head coach of four-star defensive end Damon Wilson, who Clemson has a great deal of interest in.

Wilson picked up a Clemson offer on June 1, 2021.

He ranks as the No. 8 edge rusher and No. 103 overall prospect nationally in the 2023 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

This afternoon, Swinney was joined by his top offensive lieutenants in offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter and running backs coach C.J. Spiller, as the trio stopped by Lehigh Senior High School (Lehigh Acres, Fla.).

Lehigh Senior, of course, is the home of the nation’s No. 1 running back in the 2023 recruiting class, Richard Young.

Young (5-11, 200) is ranked as the No. 1 running back and No. 17 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Young took an unofficial visit to Clemson back on June 25 and received a scholarship offer the very same day. The Tigers have offered just two running backs in the 2023 class — Young and Blessed Trinity Catholic (Roswell, Ga.) four-star Justice Haynes.

Later Thursday, Swinney, along with Streeter and receivers coach Tyler Grisham, stopped by the high school of Clemson’s lone commitment in the 2023 recruiting class.

Edison (Miami, Fla.) four-star receiver Nathaniel Joseph has been committed to the Tigers since September. Joseph (5-8, 170) is ranked as the No. 14 wide receiver and No. 121 overall prospect in the 2023 class, per 247Sports.

Clemson has officially landed its first commit in the Class of 2023.

Miami (Fla.) Edison High School four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph announced his verbal commitment to Clemson Friday. He committed to Clemson over schools Florida, Florida State and Texas A&M.

Joseph (5-8, 170) is ranked as the No. 23 wide receiver in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite. He took in a visit to Tiger Town earlier this summer at the Dabo Swinney Camp and received an offer from the Tigers shortly thereafter.

“It was good, I actually liked it and I would love to get back,” Joseph told The Clemson Insider back in June regarding his visit. “I had a great time. I had a good time working with Coach Grisham in the group he had had me in. It was pretty nice being able to learn and pick up new things.”

According to Joseph, Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham had him as the No. 1 slot receiver on his board for the 2023 class.

What does it mean for a Florida receiver like Joseph to be recruited by WRU?

“That means a lot. I got a goal of playing in the league one day, and given the history of the school, it’s unbelievable,” he said. “If I go there, if I end up going there, I know that it’s nothing but greatness…I feel that could be a good spot for me.”

A Clemson wide receiver target in the class of 2023 has set his commitment date.

Miami (Fla.) Edison four-star Nathaniel Joseph announced late Wednesday night that he will make his commitment on Sept. 11.

Clemson extended an offer to Joseph (5-10, 165) in June after he visited campus to work out at the Dabo Swinney Camp. He is the lone uncommitted wideout in the 2023 class with an offer from Clemson to date.

Joseph also visited Florida State, Alabama, Florida, UCF and FAU in June. He returned to FSU for another visit in late July.

Joseph is ranked as high as the No. 137 overall prospect in the 2023 class by ESPN, which considers him the No. 23 wide receiver in the class.
