Dear Breece Hall, The Jets rank No. 30 in rush yards per game

The New York Jets rank No. 30 in rush yards per game this season and only one player has taken the majority of the carries.

Through 65 carries, Jets running back Breece Hall has produced 197 total rush yards at a rate of three yards per carry. For contrast, his reserve Braelon Allen has a total of  143 yards on just 32 carries.

It’s very simple mathematics, yet somehow, former coordinator Nathaniel Hackett kept Allen minimalized through the first six weeks of the season.

Sure, it isn’t all Hall’s fault. Hackett’s clueless play calling had Hall plunging the a-gap, where his undersized frame yielded a disadvantage.

Hall is best when he is used in the counter game, outside zones, or as a pass catcher out of the backfield and interim coach Todd Downing needs to make the adjustment versus the Buffalo Bills.

As for Allen, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich is too prudent to ignore the signs anymore. Expect Ulbrich to get both Hall and Allen the touches they need on Monday night.

Jets’ Jeff Ulbrich strips Nate Hackett of play calling, goes to Todd Downing

The New York Jets will no longer have Nate Hackett calling their plays on offense.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has announced that Hackett has been stripped of his duties as the play caller for the team’s offense. During Jets’ 2-3 start to the 2024 NFL season, that side of the ball has struggled in a big way, leading to the firing of head coach Robert Saleh earlier this week.

It had been reported that Saleh had been considering making changes of his own to the coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball, but he never got the opportunity to do so before being dismissed.

Evidently, Ulbrich had something similar in mind.

With Hackett no longer calling the plays, passing-game coordinator Todd Downing will now do so. The same prior mentioned report on Saleh said he wanted to make this same move.

Hackett will remain with the team but will have a different role moving forward.

Reports indicate Robert Saleh would make change on offense before firing

Reports indicate Robert Saleh would make change on offense before firing:

The finer details are a bit conflicting, however, it appears that Robert Saleh was aiming toward making some sort of change to the New York Jets’ offense before being fired by the team.

On Tuesday, the Jets decided to move on from Saleh.

Prior to that, reports indicate that Saleh had wanted to make some changes regarding New York’s offense moving forward. That appears to be certain, but exactly what the change would have been is what’s in the gray.

According to CBS Sports, Saleh had been toying with the idea of firing offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett:

But SNY has reported that the move would not have been that drastic. Instead, Saleh was considering taking play-calling duties away from Hackett in favor of Todd Downing, who is the Jets’ passing-game coordinator and quarterbacks coach:

Whichever report holds more truth isn’t all that important, because regardless, it sounds like Hackett was going to be demoted in some capacity. Moving forward, the same could still happen but that’s a decision for Jeff Ulbrich, who was named New York’s interim head coach.

Jets Wire will provide updates as information is made available.

Jets, Garrett Wilson downplay comments that created a stir

Jets, Garrett Wilson downplay comments that created a stir

Both the New York Jets (2-2) and Garrett Wilson have both downplayed his comments from earlier this week that created a stir.

Ahead of facing the Minnesota Vikings (4-0) in London and in the midst of Davante Adams trade speculation, Wilson turned some heads with this one.

“I don’t think we do a lot of different stuff to be honest,” Wilson said to ESPN radio.”When I watch football on Sundays and I see a lot of teams who mix it up and stuff like that. I don’t feel like we do that. I think we know our identity.”

Some took that as controversial. Jets offensive coordinator Nate Hackett did not.

“We want to make Garrett the focal point of the offense. We want to be sure that we’re targeting him and kind of setting things up for him,” Hackett said via video conference. “I think it’s been great to see those guys around him come up with big plays. If something’s not open, we never want to force the ball.”

As for Wilson, he took to social media to defend his comments.

But it wasn’t that Wilson backed it up and confirmed he was being critical of New York’s offense. Rather, Wilson pointed out the long-winded question he was responding to.

The wideout believed if everyone heard that followed by his answer, then it’s easy to understand where he’s coming from.

What do you think? Wilson’s sharing of his response can be found below:

VIDEO: Nathaniel Hackett reproves Andrew Peasley for RPO read vs. Commanders

New York Jets OC Nathaniel Hackett is working tediously to optimize the offensive attack before the 2024 NFL season.

New York Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers are working tediously to optimize the offensive attack before the 2024 NFL season. Yet, reserve quarterback Andrew Peasley decided to go off script on this 2nd quarter play from Week 1 of the NFL preseason.

Understanding play sequencing is crucial to understanding how efficient an offensive coordinator can be. For Hackett, he sent in the perfect play call for 3rd & 1 from his own 38 yard line. Hackett wants as many exhibition reps as possible on offense and he can only do so by continuously moving the chains.

Criticism for Hackett, head coach Robert Saleh, and Rodgers continue to surface throughout the media. However, Hackett’s offensive attack seems to mesh ideally with his new personnel.

As more All-22 NFL film emergences throughout preseason, a vivid understanding of how Hackett wants to run the Jets’ offense will materialize. For now, Hackett is focused on making sure all of his chess pieces function according to schedule.

Peasley will continue his trial with the New York Jets in competition with quarterback Tyrod Taylor, rookie Jordan Travis, and Adrian Martinez who played well in the win over the Commanders last week. With only 53 spots on the team roster, it’s understandable as to why Peasley tried for the home-run on such a basic read.

Aaron Rodgers wore a coaching headset in NFL Preseason opener

Instead of bathing in sideline glory, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers decided he’d wear a team headset in week 1 of NFL Preseason.

Instead of bathing in sideline glory, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers decided he’d wear a team headset in week 1 of NFL Preseason.

While Rodgers trains through tedious reps at training camp, he and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett are simultaneously spending time establishing signal calls. This is likely an explanation for Rodgers’ headset gesture.

Having spent the entire season sidelined in 2023, Rodgers and Hackett will be looking to familiarize the younger players with play calling and signals. Both Jets’ reserve quarterbacks played well in the win over the Washington Commanders and Rodgers was fully involved in the play-by-play.

In Hackett’s offense, rookie running back Braelon Allen may be used in the HB-stretch run frequently, especially as a play audible from pass & PA pass plays.

Rodgers will also have to get in sync with wide receiver Mike Williams who just returned to camp early last week.

Things will be a work in progress for Rodgers who is preparing to play at age 40. His leadership will be key this season for the New York Jets. For now, he’s prioritizing his reps as training camp continues.
