Ravens lose two players to waiver claims, claim none

The Ravens lost two promising players to other teams on waivers while not being awarded anyone themselves

The Baltimore Ravens cut a huge amount of great talent on Tuesday, as they and the rest of the NFL were required to trim their rosters down to 53 players. While some of veterans released don’t have to go through waivers, a lot of young talent will, so teams are always risking losing those players with other teams having the chance to claim them.

There was always a possibility that Baltimore was going to lose one or two people to waivers despite probably wanting many of their own guys back on their practice squad. That was indeed the case, as they lost two very promising players in running back Nate McCrary and defensive back Nigel Warrior.

Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey and safety DeShon Elliott chimed in on the loss of Warrior, with Humphrey calling the second-year player “a baller”.

It’s disappointing to see both players depart Baltimore, as they showed great promise. McCrary took on a big workload during the preseason and impressed, while Warrior showed off his versatility and playmaking.

The Ravens made no waiver moves themselves, so they either didn’t put in a claim for anyone or they were too low in the pecking order and saw other teams scoop up players that they wanted before they had a chance to.

There are still plenty more moves to be made for Baltimore, both on their active roster and their practice squad. The next few days and weeks should clear up how both will look to start the 2021 season.

Stock up, stock down from Ravens’ 37-3 preseason win over Washington Football Team

Which Ravens increased or decreased their stock during their 37-3 win over the Washington Football Team?

The Baltimore Ravens were able to secure a 37-3 win over the Washington Football Team in the team’s final preseason game of 2021. Baltimore dominated for all four quarters, and multiple players stepped up in hopes of earning a roster spot.

Saturday night’s game was the last time before cut down day that players could impress the Ravens’ coaching staff and decision makers, so everything was left on the field, and it showed with the near flawless performance that Baltimore was able to put together.

Below we take a look at players who increased their stock in the Ravens’ win over Washington, as well as some who saw their stock fall.

J.K. Dobbins injury: Why the Ravens would be in good hands with Gus Edwards

Even if J.K. Dobbins does miss extended time, the Ravens’ backfield is in good hands

The Baltimore Ravens are awaiting injury news on running back J.K. Dobbins, who suffered a nasty looking knee injury in the team’s 37-3 preseason win over the Washington Football Team. The second-year player was hit low after catching a screen pass, immediatly grabbing for his knee once he went down.

If Dobbins misses any time on the field, it’s a big blow to Baltimore’s offense. Many are expecting him to break out in 2021, and a player of Dobbins’ caliber makes the Ravens’ a better team. However, not all is lost even if the former Ohio State University star is sidelined. In fact, they are in rather good hands with fellow running back Gus Edwards.

Although the team would miss Dobbins and his balance, agility, cut back ability and power, Edwards is a well-rounded runner who has improved in each of his first three seasons at the NFL level. Widely regarded as a pure north-south runner out of the Rutgers University, he has added a plethora of different things to his skill set, including cut back ability, improved vision, receiving skills and much more.

Edwards is also a beacon of consistency, never averaging below five yards per carry in each of his first three seasons as a professional. He almost never loses yardage, and is as reliable as they come in short yardage situations. He is also now versatile enough to pick up some of what Dobbins would leave if he is forced to miss time with an injury.

Aside from Edwards, Baltimore also has breakout running back Ty’Son Williams waiting in the wings, as well as Nate McCrary and even Justice Hill. The Ravens have had an extremely deep running back room for years, and although their depth would be tested without Dobbins, Edwards and company is a great backup plan to have, especially considering Edwards is expected to have a major role in Baltimore’s offense regardless of if Dobbins is out for an extended period or not.

Instant analysis of Ravens’ 37-3 preseason win over Washington Football Team

The Baltimore Ravens wrapped up their 2021 preseason in dominant fashion

The Baltimore Ravens secured their record-breaking 20th-straight preseason win on Saturday with a dominant 37-3 victory over the Washington Football Team. Baltimore’s offense dominated for the whole night, and the Ravens’ defense stonewalled Washington’s offense for much of the contest.

On the night, quarterback Tyler Huntley was spectacular, finishing the game completing 24 of 33 passes for 285 yards and four passing touchdowns, as well as picking up 14 yards and another touchdown on six carries. He is the clear winner of Baltimore’s backup quarterback job, earning it with phenomenal play throughout all three preseason weeks.

Other standouts from the game include running backs Ty’Son Williams and Nate McCrary, as well as wide receivers Binjimen Victor and James Proche II. However, the story of the game unfortunately came in the first quarter with a huge part of the Ravens’ offense going down with a potentially serious injury.

J.K. Dobbins caught a screen pass and was hit low, which caused him to immediatly grab at his knee. He wasn’t able to put any weight on his leg, and was carted to the locker room. There’s always a risk of getting injured in football, and Baltimore now awaits MRI results on Dobbins.

On defense there were plenty of solid contributors including Chris Smith and Nigel Warrior. It was an all around effort for the defense, which held Washington to just three points and 1-of-11 on third down.

After ending the preseason with a bang, the Ravens will now shift their attention to cut down day as they will have to trim their roster to 53 players. Once that task is complete, the team will look to start the regular season with the same dominance that they ended the preseason with, taking on the Las Vegas Raiders in a Week 1 primetime matchup.

Stock up, stock down from Ravens’ 20-3 preseason win over Panthers

In the second week of the 2021 preseason, the Ravens had many players increase their stock, but some saw their standing fall

The Baltimore Ravens went into Carolina and came out with a preseason victory against the Panthers, winning 20-3. Baltimore held Carolina relatively in check for the entire contest, and there were plenty of standouts across the board.

Offensive and defensive players who needed strong performances to get closer to earning a roster spot impressed, and even special teams contributors got in on that action. However, there were a few players who didn’t play due to injury that had their stock drop.

We take a look at players who increased their stock against the Panthers, as well as those who saw their stock fall.

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Carolina Panthers by the final score of 20-3, securing their 19th-straight preseason win, which ties the all-time record set by Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers from 1959-1962.

It was a sloppy start for both teams, as turnovers, three-and-outs, and missed opportunities were extremely present. Quarterback Tyler Huntley played for the majority of the game, and after a slow start, he finished the game completing 24 of 34 passes for 187 yards and one interception, as well as rushing the ball seven times for 23 yards, further cementing his place as the backup quarterback to Lamar Jackson.

As for the rest of the offense, running backs Ty’Son Williams and Nate McCrary had great games, taking advantage of Justice Hill’s absence due to injury. Wide receiver Tylan Wallace and tight end Josh Oliver also had good games, although both had plays that they would certainly like back, as Oliver fumbled a ball and both players dropped passes. The offensive line also had a much better performance than in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints, but they still have some work to do.

On defense, the unit was flying around the field from start to finish. Safeties DeShon Elliott and Chuck Clark both made huge plays, linebackers Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison played well in some extended run, and young playmakers in the secondary stepped up, including Nigel Warrior and Ar’Darius Washington.

The Ravens showed how deep of a team they are, especially without some of their stars playing on both sides of the ball. The team got multiple positive contributions from their starters and their backups, which is a great sign, as Baltimore is getting ready to rely on a plethora of players during the 2021 season.

Even after the game got off to a slow start, the Ravens responded and put together an overall solid performance. Baltimore will go for history next Saturday against the Washington Football Team, as they aim to win their 20th-straight preseason game.

Watch: Ty’Son Williams scores on impressive 20-yard touchdown run

Watch: Ty’Son Williams scores on impressive 20-yard touchdown run

The Baltimore Ravens have a real competition on their hands for the third running back spot on their roster. While at first many thought the role belonged to Justice Hill, but both Ty’Son Williams and Nate McCrary have come on strong and showed that they have plenty of potential.

In the fourth quarter of Baltimore’s preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, Williams broke free for an impressive 20-yard touchdown run where he juked and powered his way to the end zone.

Williams spent last season on the Ravens’ practice squad, and has clearly shown growth as he aims to make the team in his second season. With Hill missing the game against Carolina with an ankle injury, Williams has taken full advantage of an increase in snaps, and could even now be considered the leader for the running back job behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards
