Steelers sign veteran TE MyCole Pruitt

Pruitt and Steelers OC Arthur Smith are very familiar with one another.

According to Pittsburgh Steelers beat writer Gerry Dulac, the Steelers have signed tight end MyCole Pruitt. Pruitt is headed into his tenth NFL season and is 32 years old.

Pruitt’s signing makes perfect sense given his experience with new Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Smith was Pruitt’s tight ends coach in 2018 and his offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020 when both were with the Tennessee Titans.

Then, when Smith took over the head coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons, Pruitt followed him, playing for the Falcons in 2022 and 2023.

The addition of Pruitt gives the Steelers a solid veteran who is very familiar with Smith’s offense. He’s definitely not a lock to make the team but his experience would give him a leg up on veteran Rodney Williams as the team’s No. 4 tight end on the depth chart.

Another former Falcon is linking up with Arthur Smith in Pittsburgh. This time, it’s tight end MyCole Pruitt who’s expected to sign with the Steelers, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Thursday evening.

Pruitt, 32, spent the last two seasons in Atlanta, grabbing 25 catches for 260 receiving yards and five touchdowns. The veteran tight end will join former Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson and wide receiver Van Jefferson in Pittsburgh.

The Falcons signed two players over the last few days. Veteran defensive tackle Eddie Goldman came out of retirement to sign with the team on Wednesday. Atlanta then added former Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton on Thursday.

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith is just trolling us all now

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith doesn’t care about your fantasy team, but there are times when we wonder if he gets actual football, either.

Atlanta Falcons head coach and offensive shot-caller Arthur Smith is quite fond of responding to questions about the design of his offense, and his seeming love of ignoring his most explosive playmakers, with comments about how he doesn’t care about anybody’s fantasy team.

Which, of course, isn’t the point. The point is to get the ball in the hands of your best guys, and Smith has come up short in that regard though most of the season. Which is one reason the Falcons came into Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans ranked 24th in Offensive DVOA. This time, Smith had another “interesting” idea that — as you might expect — didn’t work.

With 10:36 left in the first quarter, Smith pulled running back Bijan Robinson off the field at the Tennessee seven-yard line so that… well, so that tight end Jonnu Smith could throw an incomplete pass to tight end MyCole Pruitt.

On the next play, quarterback Desmond Ridder was sacked for a 10-yard loss, and Younghoe Koo saved some semblance of scoring with a 29-yard field goal.

If Smith keeps this up, he might soon have a lot more time to play fantasy football — whether he likes it or not.

Falcons elevate TE MyCole Pruitt to 53-man roster for Week 5

The Falcons have elevated TE MyCole Pruitt from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers.

The Atlanta Falcons (2-2) won’t have tight end Kyle Pitts for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-2), and there isn’t a player on the roster capable of doing everything that Pitts can.

Instead, the Falcons are taking a by-committee approach to replace their star tight end in Week 5. On Saturday, the team elevated MyCole Pruitt from the practice squad.

Pruitt, 30, spent the last four seasons in Tennessee, recording 34 catches, 386 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Many thought the veteran was a lock for the team’s initial 53-man roster, but he was beaten out by Parker Hesse and Feleipe Franks.

As for Pitts, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said he didn’t expect the injury to be long-term, and that the team is being cautious with its second-year tight end, per ESPN’s Michael Rothstein.

For the season, Pitts has just 10 catches for 150 receiving yards. His loss is  a tough blow for an Atlanta team that already lost its starting running back, Cordarrelle Patterson, to the injured reserve list Monday.

Falcons sign former Titans TE MyCole Pruitt

The Falcons signed TE MyCole Pruitt and waived injured DT Bryce Rodgers on Monday afternoon.

The Atlanta Falcons have added another former Tennessee Titans player, signing tight end MyCole Pruitt and waiving injured DT Bryce Rodgers on Monday afternoon.

Pruitt was originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2015 draft out of the University of Southern Illinois. After playing for three different teams (Vikings, Bears and Texans) during his first three NFL seasons, Pruitt spent the last four years in Tennessee.

Primarily a blocking tight end, Pruitt has caught 46 of 63 career targets for 488 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The seven-year NFL veteran should compete for the team’s third TE spot, along with John FitzPatrick and Parker Hesse.

Rodgers, who went down during Saturday’s practice with a knee injury, will wind up on the team’s injured reserve list if he clears waivers. Make sure to check out our updated 90-man roster tracker and latest 53-man roster projection.

Titans activate Julio Jones off COVID-19 list among 6 moves

The Titans activated the last of their active-roster players from the COVID-19 list on Monday.

The Tennessee Titans activated the last of their active-roster players from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. The team announced it has activated wide receiver Julio Jones, linebacker Jayon Brown and backup offensive tackle Kendall Lamm.

On the practice squad, defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun was removed from the COVID-19 list, but offensive tackle Paul Adams was added to it.

Tight end MyCole Pruitt was placed on Injured Reserve as expected after suffering a brutal injury in Week 17 that was reported to be a fractured and dislocated ankle. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but Pruitt’s season is likely over.

“I was able to talk to him last night,” Vrabel said of Pruitt. “It’s disappointing, and it’s sad to watch guys who put a lot into it and see anybody get injured.”

As far as what the Titans will do to replace Pruitt, who leaves fairly big shoes to fill thanks to his contributions as both a pass-catcher and blocker, Vrabel said, “we’ll look at all possibilities to see how we’ll replace MyCole.”

The Titans will look to clinch the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye with a win when they travel to NRG Stadium in Week 18 to take on the Houston Texans.

Report: Titans’ MyCole Pruitt suffered fractured and dislocated ankle

MyCole Pruitt suffered a serious ankle injury in the Titans’ Week 17 win over the Dolphins.

While the Tennessee Titans celebrated their second-straight division title with a 34-3 win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 17, there was one major negative to come from the game.

In the second quarter, tight end MyCole Pruitt suffered a serious ankle injury that led to the cart coming out and an air cast being put on his leg. Of course, Pruitt was ruled out after that.

Following the game, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that Pruitt both fractured and dislocated his ankle, which will require surgery. It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but that injury will end Pruitt’s 2021 campaign.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Pruitt, who has no doubt made some key contributions in 2021, both as a receiver and blocker. He finishes his fourth season in Tennessee with 14 catches, 145 receiving yards, and three scores.

As far as replacement possibilities go, the Titans don’t have any options on their active roster, as Anthony Firkser and Geoff Swaim are the only other tight ends. The team also has Austin Fort on the practice squad.

The Titans will return to action in Week 18 when they take on the Houston Texans. A win would secure the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye for Tennessee.
