2020 NFL MVP odds: Is Derrick Henry worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Derrick Henry is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP?

Derrick Henry had a magical 2019 season as he was the force behind the Titans’ dominant rushing attack. His play over the final eight regular-season games allowed the Titans to clinch a playoff berth. They eventually reached the AFC Championship Game behind their star running back.

Below, we take a look at MVP futures odds for the 2020 NFL season. Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening, and whether or not Henry is worth a bet.

Recent NFL MVP winners

2019 – QB Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens)

2018 – QB Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs)

2017 – QB Tom Brady (New England Patriots)

2016 – QB Matt Ryan (Atlanta Falcons)

2015 – QB Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers)

2014 – QB Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers)

2013 – QB Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos)

Derrick Henry’s 2020 NFL MVP odds

Henry’s odds to take home the 2020 MVP award is +3300. Henry and the New York Giants’ Saquon Barkley (also at +3300), have the highest odds among running backs to win the award despite no tailback being named MVP since 2012 (Adrian Peterson, then with the Minnesota Vikings). Twelve players have better odds to take home the award than Henry and Barkley, all of which are quarterbacks.

Derrick Henry’s 2019 stats

Henry had a career year in 2019, leading the NFL in rushing yards (1,540) and tying with the Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Jones for the most rushing touchdowns (16). Henry averaged over 5.0 yards per carry (at 5.1) for the first time in his career and even set a career high in receiving yards (206), as well.

Henry was dominant in the postseason, too, tallying 467 total yards (446 rushing and 21 receiving) with two TDs in the Titans’ run to the AFC title game. His play was a big reason why the Titans were able to make such a deep playoff run. It’s also worth noting that Henry has improved on his rushing total every season since he’s been in the NFL and is improving as a receiver, as well.

Is Derrick Henry worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

Betting on Henry to win the NFL MVP award is tough for a variety of factors. In the new-age NFL, running backs just don’t stand much of a chance to take home the award due to the run-pass splits. It takes a historic, record-breaking type of season for a running back to even be in the conversation for the MVP award in today’s NFL.

But if Henry can match the production that he had in the final eight games of the 2019 regular season, he would be close to eclipsing 2,000 rushing yards and 20 total touchdowns. Those type of numbers, plus the Titans making the playoffs, is what Henry would need to accomplish in order to have a shot at winning the award.

But considering just how hard those numbers are to obtain, it doesn’t favor Henry winning the award. Running backs also are more likely to miss time with injuries in comparison to quarterbacks, and negative game-scripts can be crippling to the production of a player like Henry.

AVOID betting on Henry to win the NFL MVP, but consider betting on him instead to lead the league in rushing for the second consecutive season.

2020 NFL MVP odds: Is Tom Brady worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Tom Brady is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Tom Brady has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP?

Brady, who joins the Bucs after spending his entire career with the New England Patriots, has won the award three times (2017, 2010, 2007). While he made his NFL debut in 2000 in a relief appearance, making just three passing attempts, he became the starter in 2001.

Below, we take a look at MVP futures odds for the 2020 NFL season. Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening, and whether or not Brady is worth a bet.

Brady’s odds are +2000. He has the sixth-best odds to win the award and is tied with a few other notable quarterbacks such as the Houston Texans’ Deshaun Watson, the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz. Here are the top-five favorites and their current odds to take home the award:

  • Mahomes (+325)
  • Jackson (+500)
  • Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson (+500)
  • New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (+1400)
  • Rodgers (+1600)

It is worth noting that quarterbacks have won the award in seven consecutive seasons and in 12 of the last 13.

Tom Brady’s 2019 stats

The 2019 season was one of Brady’s worst of his career. While he maintained a solid touchdown to interception ratio of 24:8, his completion percentage dropped to 60.8 percent, 3.0 percent below his career average.

Brady also averaged just 6.6 yards per attempt, which is the second worst of his career. The last time Brady averaged less than 6.6 yards per attempt for an entire season was in 2002, which was his second full season as a starter.

He finished last season with 4,057 passing yards, the fewest yards he has thrown since 2010. It’s fair to wonder if Brady is finally hitting the wall as he’ll turn 43 years old Aug. 3.

Is Tom Brady worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

The winner of the NFL’s MVP award isn’t always about which quarterback puts up the best stats in a given season. Often times, it’s about the narrative and story surrounding a player.

For Brady to win the award in 2020, his goal is fairly simple. He’ll need to make the Buccaneers an NFC contender and in turn, a playoff team. But that will be incredibly difficult in a division (NFC South) that has been dominated by the Saints for the last decade.

Given the number of weapons Brady will have at his disposal and the fact that head coach Bruce Arians is one of the more pass-happy coaches in the NFL, Brady’s passing stats should look excellent. However, it will be tough for him to win the award unless Tampa Bay wins double-digit games in 2020.

While it’s a fun bet to wager on Brady, there are better bets available on younger players who are on better teams. AVOID betting on this prop as there just isn’t enough value on Brady at this time.

2020 NFL MVP Odds: Is Aaron Rodgers worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Aaron Rodgers is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP?

We are still months away from the 2020 NFL season but it isn’t too early to start projecting who will step up and be the MVP in the upcoming season.  Rodgers is already a two-time league MVP, having won it in 2011 and 2014.

The 2020 MVP futures odds are already out. Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening and whether or not Rodgers is worth a bet.

Recent NFL MVP winners

The last seven league MVPs and 12 of the last 13 have been quarterbacks. Each of the last four MVPs led the NFL in some major passing statistic. 2019 winner Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens) and 2018 winner Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs) had the most touchdown passes. 2017 winner Tom Brady, then with the New England Patriots, led the NFL in passing yards. 2016 MVP Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons had the highest passer rating. In Cam Newton’s 2015 MVP season, he led the Carolina Panthers to a 15-1 regular season. Rodgers’ 2014 MVP season with the Green Bay Packers was highlighted by 38 TD passes and only five interceptions. In his 2011 MVP season, he set an NFL record for passer rating (122.5).

Brady, a three-time winner and new Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB is +2000.

Aaron Rodgers’ stats

Rodgers did not have a statistically dominating season in 2019, but he led the Packers to the NFC Championship Game. He threw for 4,002 yards, the eighth time in his career he passed for 4,000-plus yards. He only had four interceptions last season, leading the league for the second straight year for the lowest interception percentage, but he only had 26 touchdown passes. He led the Packers to 13 regular-season wins and the NFC North Division title, but he wasn’t the main reason behind all those victories.

Is Rodgers worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

The Packers will be the favorites in the NFC North again, although the division will be competitive. Rodgers has new offensive weapons in TE Mercedes Lewis and WR Devin Funchess. The defense added LB Christian Kirksey to replace the loss of LB Blake Martinez.

Having just turned 36 in December, Rodgers is still one of the league’s best quarterbacks. As a two-time MVP, he does make a good bet, especially with a potential payout of 16 times your initial investment. Bet RODGERS +1600.

2020 NFL MVP Odds: Is Lamar Jackson worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Lamar Jackson is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP again? Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening and whether or not Jackson is worth a bet.

Jackson earned the 2019 NFL MVP after a magical campaign with the Ravens, his first full season as a starter in Charm City. What will he be able to do for an encore after such an impressive showing? The Ravens are expected to once again be a contender, and Jackson is certainly the straw that stirs the drink.

Keep in mind, however, that we have not had a player win the MVP award in consecutive seasons since Peyton Manning, then of the Indianapolis Colts, back in 2008-09. Previously, it was Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre winning the award in 1995 and 1996, as well as sharing the award in 1997.

Recent NFL MVP winners

Jackson rolled through most opposing defenses like hot knife through butter in 2019, securing his first MVP award.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes won the hardware in 2018. QB Tom Brady, then of the New England Patriots, claimed the honors for the 2017 season. In fact, a quarterback has won the award in each of the previous seven NFL campaigns, and 12 of the past 13 seasons overall.

Jackson (+500) is actually not the favorite in 2020, as that honor belongs to Mahomes (+325).

Jackson has the same odds as Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson. New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (+1400), Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (+1600), Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (+2000), Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson (+2000), Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (+2000) and Brady (+2000) are next in line.

Lamar Jackson’s stats

Jackson was drafted with the 32nd overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, but he held a clipboard for most of his rookie season before taking over late for Joe Flacco. The 2019 season was Jackson’s first full season as a starter in the NFL, and it was one of the best seasons in the history of the league for a quarterback.

He threw for 3,127 yards, 36 touchdowns and just six interceptions while running for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged an eye-popping 6.9 yards per rushing attempt. He broke the previous single-season rushing record by a quarterback, set by former Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick in 2006.

He is also the first player in NFL history with at least 4,000 passing yards and 1,500 rushing yards across his first 30 career games while becoming the sixth player in the Super Bowl era with at least three games with five touchdowns passes.

Is Lamar Jackson worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

It’s difficult to win the MVP award in consecutive seasons, and we’ve only seen it happen a handful of times during the Super Bowl era. If anyone has the goods to do it two seasons in a row, it’s Jackson. He was absolutely electric in 2019, and it didn’t seem to matter whether he was facing a struggling defense or a top-tier unit. Jackson was able to put up eye-popping numbers week in and week out.

What might be working against Jackson in 2020 is the fact his 2019 campaign was too good. If he takes a slight step back, even if he has impressive numbers, the award is likely to go to someone else. And there is always a higher risk of injury for a quarterback who runs as much as he does.

2020 NFL MVP Odds: Is Drew Brees worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Drew Brees is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP?

We are still months away from the 2020 NFL season but it isn’t too early to start projecting who will step up and be the MVP in the upcoming season.  Despite a Hall of Fame career, Brees has never won the award, even with consistently posting dominant numbers as a passer.

The 2020 MVP futures odds are already out. Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening and whether or not Brees is worth a bet.

Drew Brees’ stats

A thumb injury limited Brees to 11 games last season. He still went 8-3 as the Saints made the postseason, and led the NFL in completion percentage at 74.3%. However, he failed to pass for at least 3,000 yards for the first time since 2003 when he also only played 11 games. He had 27 touchdown passes and only four interceptions last season. It was only the second time since 2007 that he did not reach 30 TD passes. He led them to the playoffs for the third year in a row as the Saints won the NFC South each time.

Is Drew Brees worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

This offseason, the Saints added another top receiver by signing free agent Emmanuel Sanders to pair with Michael Thomas. The Saints are set up as the favorites to win the NFC South once again with plans of playing deep into the postseason. If Brees is healthy, he should put up big numbers for a really good Saints team. That makes him ABSOLUTELY WORTH A BET AS THE LEAGUE MVP AT +1400.

2020 NFL MVP Odds: Is Russell Wilson worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Russell Wilson is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP?

He’s surprisingly never received a single vote for MVP in his NFL career, but Wilson remains one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The success he’s had with Seattle is bound to continue in 2020 as the team looks like Super Bowl contenders once again. We’ll take a look at whether Wilson can actually take home the NFL MVP based on past history and future projections.

Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening and whether or not Wilson is worth a bet.

Recent NFL MVP winners

A quarterback has won NFL MVP in each of the last seven seasons, which is a positive trend for Wilson. The Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson did it last year as a dual-threat player, rushing for 1,206 yards and leading the NFL with 36 touchdown passes. The Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes had 5,097 passing yards with 50 touchdowns in 2018 when he won the award, while Tom Brady’s 4,577 passing yards and 32 TDs for the New England Patriots led to him winning MVP in 2017.

Wilson will need to throw for at least 4,500 yards and toss no fewer than 30 touchdowns if he wants to win MVP in 2020, a combination he’s never had in his career.

Wilson is +500 to win the 2020 MVP, just behind the favorite Mahomes (+325). Seattle’s Wilson is also +500 as the these three are far ahead of the competition. The next-closest player is New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees  at +1400.

Russell Wilson’s stats

Wilson had one of his best seasons in the NFL last year, throwing for 4,110 yards, 31 touchdowns and a career-low five interceptions. He also took a league-high 48 sacks, so he’ll need help from his O-line in 2020 if he wants to win MVP.

Is Russell Wilson worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

The Seahawks play in arguably the toughest division in football with the Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals and the NFC defending champion San Francisco 49ers all on the schedule twice. If Seattle can win 11 games going through that gauntlet in 2020, it’ll greatly help Wilson’s chances, especially if he’s clutch late in games.

Wilson has all the tools to win MVP and plays the most important position in football, which makes him a good bet. At +500, he may not have the upside of someone like Carson Wentz (+2000), but Wilson is deservingly one of the favorites to win the award.

Baltimore Ravens QB Jackson (+500)

Dak Prescott‘s 2019 stats

Prescott had the best season of his career in 2019, throwing for career-highs in yards (4,902) and touchdowns (30) with a 99.7 percent passer rating. Prescott did see a drop in his rushing production, only gaining 277 yards (52 carries) on the ground. But it was a worthwhile tradeoff as Prescott became one of the league’s best passers.

Is Dak Prescott worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

In his first season under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Prescott saw a massive surge in production. He became one of the best deep-ball passers in the NFL, averaging 9.3 air yards per pass attempt. With Mike McCarthy now on board as the team’s head coach, it’s fair to expect the Cowboys to continue to throw the ball early and often.

For Prescott to win this award, he would likely need to repeat his 2019 stat totals, and the Cowboys would need to be a legit contender in the NFC. But with the Cowboys still having one of the most talented offenses in the league, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they needed to score even more after losing a significant amount of talent on defense.

Prescott probably won’t win the 2020 NFL MVP, but it’s not hard to see the pathway for success for the fifth-year quarterback. But at 20-1 odds, Prescott isn’t a bad bet considering his recent caliber of play and the talent around him. Look for Prescott to continue to build off his strong 2019 numbers, but to fall short of taking home this honor.

Patrick Mahomes’ 2019 stats

Mahomes played and started 14 games last season, while passing for 4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns against five interceptions. He added 218 rushing yards and another two scores on the ground in the regular season.

He then led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl LIV title in just his second full season under center. He totaled 901 passing yards with 10 touchdowns against two interceptions across three playoff games.

Is Patrick Mahomes worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

At +325, Mahomes is the odds-on favorite to win his second NFL MVP award in three years.

After dominating in the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl, it’s not hard to get behind the idea of Mahomes winning his second MVP award. He plays in an offense that is going to throw the ball a ton and he’s only getting better as a passer.

At +325, his odds to win the NFL MVP are surprisingly favorable. He’s the best quarterback in the league and will be surrounded by a ton of weapons once again in 2020. After a few weeks at the beginning of the season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this number dropped to EVEN odds due to the insane type of stats he could put up in Andy Reid’s offense. 2020 NFL MVP Odds: Is Daniel Jones worth a bet?

Analyzing the betting odds to be named the NFL’s 2020 MVP, with a look at whether Daniel Jones is worthy of a bet this season.

Do you think New York Giants QB Daniel Jones has what it takes to win the 2020 NFL MVP?

Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson picked up the 2019 NFL MVP, a huge value if you bet on the signal caller during the preseason or early into the regular season. The Giants are retooling their defense, which should make the team much better in the win-loss department. But will it be enough for the sophomore signal caller to be the most valuable player in the league?

Let’s examine his chances, the BetMGM NFL futures odds around it happening and whether or not Jones is worth a bet.

Recent NFL MVP winners

Jones will certainly have a huge hill to climb, as Jackson was a tremendous talent who piled up some amazing numbers both through the air and on the ground. In 2018, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes won the award, and, oh by the way, he is the defending Super Bowl MVP, too. Before that it was QB Tom Brady, as Tom Terrific notched his third MVP in 2017. The good news for Jones and his chances is that a quarterback has claimed the MVP award in each of the past seven seasons, and 12 of the past 13.

Jones is listed as (+8000), which makes him a rather long shot against the rest of the field, including Jackson at (+500), Mahomes (+325) and Brady (+2000), now of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Daniel Jones stats

Jones took over the reins of the Big Blue offense from two-time Super Bowl winner Eli Manning, who has since retired. Jones appeared in 13 games, completing 61.9 percent of his passes for 3,027 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while posting a QB rating of 87.7. He also ran for 279 yards and two scores, losing three fumbles.

Is Daniel Jones worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

Jones is a long shot, and for good reason. The G-Men are making some nice improvements on the defensive side of the ball, but they still have some holes along the offensive line, and a very mediocre wideout corps. That works against Jones and his chances. If RB Saquon Barkley can stay healthy, Jones will have a good guy out of the backfield for dump-offs, helping to improve his completion percentage, as well as his overall yardage and touchdowns. Jones also needs to cut his turnovers down, while significantly improving in the win-loss department to have a shot. At this point, confidence is not high.

Is Kirk Cousins worth a 2020 NFL MVP bet?

The Vikings made it to the NFC Divisional Round last season before losing 27-10 to the San Francisco 49ers. The NFC North is once again projected to be one of the NFL’s toughest divisions, with the Vikes needing to overcome the 2019 champion Green Bay Packers while holding off the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions.

Cousins will have extra attention on him in 2020 following the large extension. He represents an adequate value bet against his competition at his position and against the rest of the league.
