Quotes: Tom Izzo speaks to media after recent Michigan State basketball victories, previews Minnesota game

Don’t look now but Michigan State basketball has won five of their last six games, with an opportunity to go to Minnesota tomorrow night and play a Golden Gophers team that has been playing much better ball since their loss to the Spartans on Jan. 18.

Before the game, Tom Izzo addressed the media for his weekly Monday presser. You can find the notable quotes from that press conference below.

Michigan State football adds former UTSA QB Cordale Grundy as Graduate Assistant

Michigan State football’s core staff is now complete, and now it’s time to flesh out the coaching staff with graduate assistants to work with the different position groups. The Spartans added another assistant over the weekend, as Cordale Grundy announced he is joining MSU as a graduate assistant working with the wide receiver group.

Grundy was a college quarterback, starting at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and finishing his career at the University of Texas-San Antonio in 2019.

Grundy started his coaching career in 2019 with Minnesota, spent time with the Miami Dolphins as the assistant cornerbacks coach, and his last stop was at Colorado as a graduate assistant working with the safeties.

Michigan State basketball beats Michigan for Tom Izzo’s 700th win

Tom Izzo gets win 700 as Michigan State handles Michigan in the second half for a 19-point victory

After a start to a game where Michigan could not miss from the field, Michigan State basketball was able to pull away to beat the Wolverines at home 81-62, earning Tom Izzo his 700th win as a head coach. A fitting way to celebrate the milestone for the Hall of Fame coach, and on his birthday nonetheless.

This was a very balanced game for MSU, with four starters scoring in double-figures. However, this game was really the Jaden Akins show. Akins could not miss from three, going 7-for-10 on the night, in what was easily his best game of the season.

A.J. Hoggard also stood out tonight with 15 points and seven assists, playing physical at the rim and making great plays for his teammates. Malik Hall and Tyson Walker both scored 12, and neither of them hit a three-pointer on the night. Both players found ways to get inside and score at the rim to help the Spartans close it out.

The Spartans are now 13-8 on the season and 5-5 in the Big Ten. They will host Maryland Saturday in a game where the Terrapins will definitely be out for revenge.

MSU Basketball vs. Michigan: Stream, broadcast info, prediction for rivalry match-up

MSU Basketball vs. Michigan: Stream, broadcast info, and a prediction for rivalry match-up

Michigan State basketball is 12-8 after starting the season flagged as Final Four favorites, and tonight, they will host their rivals, Michigan, in what is usually one of the marquee match-ups of the college basketball season. However, this year is a little different.

MSU has looked inconsistent all year. One night, they look like world-beaters who are marching towards a deep postseason run. Another, they look like a middle-of-the-road Big Ten team on the fringes of the NCAA Tournament, at best.

Michigan, on the other hand, has completely fallen apart. The Wolverines are 7-13. They’ve lost eight of their last nine and are searching for answers. That being said, you can expect that once this game starts, none of that will matter. As Tom Izzo said, as long as he’s alive, the rivalry will be the rivalry.

Below, you can see how to tune into the rivalry game, along with our prediction for the outcome.

Michigan State football lands commitment from 2024 3-star WR Jaylan Brown

Even though a handful of Michigan State football’s 2024 recruiting class is already enrolled in classes and living on campus, don’t think that the Spartans are done recruiting yet. On Sunday, MSU landed another 2024 commit, 3-star wide receiver Jaylan Brown from Nacogdoches, Texas.

Brown is the No. 108 ranked wide receiver in the 2024 class by 247Sports and their No. 1,486 ranked player overall by their Composite ranking. He had offers from:

  • East Central
  • North Texas
  • Southern University
  • Washington State

At 6-foot-3, Brown has nice size and could be a diamond in the rough for this recruiting class.

Jim Harbaugh’s year-by-year record vs. Michigan State football as head coach of Michigan

Jim Harbaugh’s year-by-year record vs. Michigan State as the head coach at Michigan

Jim Harbaugh is officially back in the NFL. On Wednesday, the Michigan football head coach was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers to become their next head coach after the franchise moved on from Brandon Staley.

Harbaugh spent nine seasons at Michigan, and oversaw one of the most contentious periods in the history of the Michigan State-Michigan rivalry. The ugly chapter included tunnel brawls, lawsuits, suspensions and a great deal of bad blood.

After two down seasons from Michigan State and two of the best seasons in the modern era for Michigan, Harbaugh left his position with a winning record against the Spartans, just barely.

Below, you can see the year-by-year results Harbaugh’s Michigan teams had against Michigan State.

Former Michigan State football punter Michael O’Shaughnessy commits to UNC Charlotte

Former Michigan State punter Michael O’Shaughnessy commits to UNC Charlotte

Michigan State football had originally picked up Michael O’Shaughnessy as a transfer from Ohio State a year ago to become the starting punter of the future. That decision was obviously made before everyone found out how sensational freshman All-Conference punter Ryan Eckley would be.

In November, Michael O’Shaughnessy entered the portal to find his next stop, and on Tuesday, announced that he would be transferring to the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Five Keys to Michigan State basketball’s huge 61-59 road victory over Maryland

Only three teams have beaten Maryland in College Park the past two years. Here’s how MSU became one of them:

Michigan State basketball finally got their first Big Ten road win of the season on Sunday with a 61-59 road win over Maryland.

They definitely had to work for it though, as you’d expect, as only two other teams have managed to beat Maryland in College Park in the past two season.

After going into the half up 12, the Terrapins stormed back and outscored the Spartans by 10 in the second half and put the pressure on MSU, but some late game heroics by a few of the MSU guards sealed this win for MSU.

Below, we put together a list of five important keys to this one and what led to this important road win.
