Spartans mistakes costly, leads to blowout loss against No. 3 Ohio State

Despite looking like they belonged early, mistakes cost MSU once again leading to blowout loss against No. 3 Ohio State

Michigan State football went into Spartan Stadium on Saturday night looking to upset No. 3 Ohio State under the lights in their second Big Ten contest of the season. The Spartans were unable to live up to those lofty goals, falling to the Buckeyes, 38-7.

Early on, the Spartans looked like they belonged in this game, but a turnover on downs at the Buckeye’s 20-yard line and two redzone fumbles did not allow the Spartans to get any points. Against the Ohio State offense, that is a recipe for disaster.

That disaster came true, and the Spartans would go into the half down 24-7.

The Buckeyes came out in the second half scoring back to back touchdowns and the Spartans did not have any answer, going down 38-7.

Aidan Chiles looked better in this contest, having a very strong first half, where his only blemish was a fumble where a very clear facemask call was missed by the officials. The second half saw the young QB press a little too much, leading to a pick, but the game was out of reach at that point.

Chiles final line was 13/19 for 167 yards and a touchdown. Jaron Glover was the recipient of the touchdown, and was the MSU leading receiver, finishing with 4 catches for 53 yards.

The Spartans fall to 3-2 with the loss and will have another tough test next week when they travel to Eugene for a Friday night game with Oregon.
