Michigan State baseball wins two of three in Columbus against Ohio State

MSU wins the weekend in Columbus against Ohio State:

Michigan State baseball traveled to Columbus for a 3-game weekend series against the Buckeyes of Ohio State. The Spartans, coming off of winning two of three against Penn State, looked to build on that momentum.

The Spartans certainly did, and almost pulled off a second sweep, but fell just short. MSU took game one, 11-4, and took game two, 17-12, but dropped the third and final game, 10-6.

Michigan State improves to 19-21 on the season with the weekend win. MSU will be back in action, at home, on Tuesday against Notre Dame before a weekend series against rival Michigan in East Lansing.

Michigan State hosted Ohio State in front of a sellout Munn Ice Arena on Saturday in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. The Spartans knocked off the Buckeyes, 2-1, punching their ticket to the Big Ten Tournament championship.

Michigan State hockey defeats Ohio State, heads to Big Ten Tournament finals

MSU downs OSU and is headed to the Big Ten Tournament championship game!

Michigan State is moving on to the championship game in the the Big Ten Tournament. In front of a sold out Munn Ice Arena, the Spartans knocked off the Ohio State Buckeyes, 2-1, in a semifinal matchup.

The scoring opened with a Daniel Russell goal just 1:23 into the second period, giving MSU a 1-0 lead. Ohio State countered, tying the game up early in the third period, just 2:06 into the period.

It was the captain, Nash Nienhuis, who countered just 13 seconds later, scoring what would be the game winning goal.

Michigan State now awaits the winner of Minnesota v Michigan to see who they will play in the Big Ten Championship game, next Saturday.

No. 1 seed Michigan State will host No. 7 seeded Ohio State on Saturday night in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal

Postseason play is here and the Spartans are ready to bring everything they have to win a Big Ten Tournament championship. MSU will be coming into the tournament as the No. 1 seed after winning the regular season Big Ten championship.

A benefit of getting the No. 1 seed is being able to host the Big Ten Tournament semifinal, after a bye week a week ago. The Spartans will be at home at Munn Ice Arena for their matchup with Ohio State.

The game will be at 6:30 p.m. and will be shown on the Big Ten Network.

Michigan State hockey splits weekend series with Ohio State

MSU split the weekend series with the Buckeyes:

The Big Ten leading Michigan State Spartans came into their weekend series with the Ohio State Buckeyes with their eyes set on a Big Ten regular season championship.

Unfortunately for the Spartans, a disappointing Friday night has led MSU to have to take care of business next weekend.

In game one, the Spartans fell to the Buckeyes, 6-2. MSU was able to bounce back on Saturday night, though, defeating OSU, 5-2.

Michigan State will go on the road, next weekend, to Wisconsin for a chance at taking home a piece of the Big Ten crown.

No. 12 Michigan State knocks off No. 13 Ohio State in game two, sweeps the Buckeyes

A week after the Spartans went to Massachusetts for a battle with No. 3 Boston College, that the Spartans unfortunately got swept in albeit played competitively, MSU traveled to Ohio State for their Big Ten opener against the Buckeyes.

After defeating the Buckeyes in the first game of the series on Friday, 6-0, the Spartans came back on Saturday to complete the sweep, defeating OSU, 6-4.

The game winning goal came from Tanner Kelly with 5:58 remaining in the game. Defenseman Nash Nienhuis added an empty net goal to seal the deal for Michigan State.

Isaac Howard, Patrick Geary and Gavin O’Connell (x2) also picked up tallies for the Spartans.

The Spartans will return home next weekend for another Big Ten series against Penn State.

No. 12 Michigan State dominates No. 13 Ohio State in Big Ten opener

Michigan State hockey went on the road to open up Big Ten play on Friday night, traveling to Columbus for a date with the No. 13 Buckeyes from Ohio State.

The Spartans weren’t phased one bit, dominating the Buckeyes, 6-0, winning the first Big Ten game of the season.

Gavin O’Connell opened the scoring for MSU, scoring two goals in the first period, giving MSU a 2-0 lead. The next two goals came from Spartan first liners Isaac Howard and Karsen Dorwart.

Up 4-0, two Spartans followed with their first career goals. Tommi Mannisto and Owen Baker found the back of the net, sealing the win for MSU.

Trey Augustine secured his first career shutout in the green and white in a 34-save effort.

These two teams will square off again Saturday night.

Michigan State and Ohio State are set to play in primetime on a new channel

The Big Ten is set to start its new media agreement with CBS and NBC this football season. With the new agreement, comes new time slots and TV channels, and now several key matchups are finding their new time slots.

One of the featured games will be Michigan State traveling to Columbus to face Ohio State. The game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on NBC, a new channel for the primetime matchup.

According to reports, OSU will be without their leading scorer in the Buckeyes clash with MSU on Friday afternoon at the Big Ten Tournament:

Michigan State and Ohio State are set to clash in the Big Ten Tournament’s quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, they will be without their leading scorer Brice Sensabaugh, who is missing the game due to a knee injury according to a report from Jon Rothstein.
