One of the game’s best rivalries will again be renewed with massive implications on the line.

Michigan State hockey won an overtime thriller against Western Michigan on Friday night to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Only a few hours later, Michigan used a strong third period to edge out a win over North Dakota to also advance to the second round and setup a matchup with the Spartans.

Michigan State holds a 4-to-1 advantage over the Wolverines this season, including a Big Ten Tournament Championship win last weekend.

Faceoff between the Spartans and Wolverines is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. The game will take place in Maryland Heights, Mo. and will be televised on ESPN2.

Michigan State hockey will go for the weekend sweep of rival Michigan on Saturday night in the annual Duel in the D event in Detroit.

The Spartans knocked off Michigan on Friday evening thanks to a four-goal third period to win 5-1. The victory guarantees Michigan State will at least get a split in the season series with Michigan, as the Spartans hold a 2-1 advantage on the year.

Michigan State comes into this game with the Wolverines sitting at 19-7-3 on the year and in first place in the Big Ten with 43 points.
