Michigan State football lands commitment from Eastern Illinois transfer cornerback

The Spartans picked up another transfer on Friday, this time a cornerback from Eastern Illinois

Michigan State football has been extremely active in the transfer portal since the end of the season as Jonathan Smith looks to remake the Spartans’ roster in his image going into next year. MSU picked up their eighth transfer of the offseason on Friday, picking up a commitment from former Eastern Illinois cornerback Nijhay ‘Jay’ Burt.

Burt, a junior out of Pennsylvania, came into the league as a running back but has since switched to cornerback and nickel. He had an extremely productive season this year, tallying 64 tackles and three interceptions in 2024.

A former Michigan State defensive end is transferring to Arkansas

On December 3rd, Michigan State football defensive end Ken Talley entered the transfer portal. Less than two weeks later, he has made his decision. Talley announced on his social media on Monday that he has decided to transfer to Arkansas to continue his collegiate career.

Arkansas will be the third program for the young defensive lineman who had originally transferred to MSU from Penn State.

Former Michigan State wide receiver taking visit to North Carolina

A former MSU wide receiver will meet with Bill Belichick and North Carolina

Bill Belichick lit the college football world on fire last week when he was formally announced as the next head coach at North Carolina after a Hall of Fame caliber NFL coaching career. Belicheck and his staff will be looking to revitalize the program quickly through the portal, and they will reportedly be meeting with former Michigan State football receiver Aziah Johnson on Tuesday.

Johnson was one of the more surprising names to see enter the portal for the Spartans after a nice season. To date, it has been reported that Johnson has at least visited with Kansas, Kansas State, and now the Tar Heels.

Michigan State men’s basketball up one spot in the latest AP poll

Michigan State up one spot in latest AP poll

Like their counterparts on the women’s side, Michigan State men’s basketball keeps moving up the polls, even after a week where they didn’t play a game. On Monday, the latest AP poll was released, and the Spartans came in at No. 20, up one spot from last week.

The Spartans had a grueling schedule to start the season, playing perennial juggernauts like UNC and Kansas while also warding off challenges from mid-majors who project to be tournament teams like Samford. They managed to make it out of that early slate with an 8-2 record and won’t face another Big Ten opponent until January.

Former Michigan State DB Jaden Mangham wears U of M cap to MSU graduation

Jaden Mangham tried to troll Michigan State at their graduation ceremony on Saturday…

Jaden Mangham shocked Michigan State football fans back in May when he announced he was transferring to bitter rival Michigan. It was a controversial move, for obvious reasons, and led to a lot outrage from fans and alumni. Since the transfer, Mangham has also been recorded speaking negatively about Michigan State and talking about how much ‘different’ it is at Michigan.

Mangham, who graduated early from Michigan State before he transferred to Michigan, attended MSU’s graduation on Saturday, and decided to troll Michigan State fans by wearing a Michigan cap to his graduation.

Veteran Michigan State football cornerback enters transfer portal

A veteran MSU cornerback has entered the portal

For the third time in his career, veteran Michigan State football cornerback Charles Brantley has entered the transfer portal.

Brantley, a redshirt junior, had his best year at MSU this past season before suffering a season-ending injury. He earned an honorable mention on the All-Big Ten team for his strong play.

While most of the transfers have not surprised me thus far, this one was a little more surprising just because of how well Brantley played under this coaching staff this season.

You can track all the movement in the transfer portal here.

A fourth Michigan State wide receiver has entered the transfer portal

A fourth Michigan State wideout has entered the transfer portal

For the fourth time this offseason, a Michigan State football wide receiver has entered the transfer portal. Antonio Gates Jr., son of the legendary NFL tight end, was revealed to be entering the portal this weekend.

This wasn’t much of a shock considering the fact that Gates had been away from the team since October 26th.

What is a bit more shocking is that Gates is the fourth receiver to be moving on, joining Jaron Glover, Jaelen Smith, and Aziah Johnson

Michigan State football adds 2025 offensive lineman as PWO commitment

Michigan State added another offensive lineman to their 2025 class as a preferred walk-on

Michigan State football continued to add to their 2025 recruiting class this week, adding offensive lineman Rashawn Rogers from Ottawa Hills in Grand Rapids, Michigan as a preferred walk-on (PWO).

Even though Rogers only had one Division II offer (from Wayne State), he has some impressive size at 6-foot-6 and almost 300 pounds. The addition makes a lot of sense as the 2025 class was a little light on offensive linemen.

For the second time in the past year, Michigan State football wide receiver Jaron Glover is entering the NCAA transfer portal. The news was first broken by Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Glover had originally entered the portal back in November of last year, but returned to MSU in December.

Glover did show some talent this year, but was in-and-out of the lineup due to injuries. He finished with 15 receptions for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
