‘Wild’ trade idea sends Khris Middleton the Warriors

The ‘wild’ trade proposal would send Khris Middleton to the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors have been re-tooling their roster this summer. With Klay Thompson leaving for the Dallas Mavericks, the front office has added Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson to help round out the rotation and provide depth at multiple positions. However, the Warriors did miss out on Lauri Markkanen, who was rumored to be their top trade target.

As such, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz has posited a ‘wild’ trade idea to give the Warriors some additional shooting in the front court, which would inevitably provide some additional floor spacing for Steph Curry in the upcoming season. The trade looks like this:

Warriors get: Khris Middleton

Milwaukee Bucks get: Jerami Grant

Portland Trail Blazers get: Moses Moody and Andrew Wiggins

“The Warriors are essentially swapping Andrew Wiggins for Middleton here, as Moody may not even play much this upcoming season with the additions of Buddy Hield and De’Anthony Melton combined with Brandin Podziemski entering the starting lineup full-time,” Swartz reasoned. “Middleton’s shooting, passing and overall versatility make him a strong fit in Golden State, and the Warriors should be thrilled to get off Wiggins’ contract.”

On paper, adding Middleton makes a lot of sense for Golden State. He would plug multiple gaps, provide high-level scoring and playmaking along with being an above-average defender. However, Middleton has struggled with health in recent seasons, has shown signs of age-related decline and is coming off a summer where he’s been recovering from surgery.

As such, the Warriors would be wise to swerve this hypothetical trade and look elsewhere. Nevertheless, Swartz is right about one thing: any major trade Golden State makes will likely include Wiggins.

Moses Moody cited as Warriors “best-kept secret”

Moses Moody could be set to have a big season for the Golden State Warriors.

Moses Moody has been with the Golden State Warriors since being drafted with the 14th pick in the 2021 NBA draft. He played in 66 regular season games for Steve Kerr’s team during the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 8.1 points, 3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game on 46.2% shooting from the field and 36% from three-point range.

According to Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, Moody is the Warriors’ “best-kept secret” heading into the new season. The 22-year-old could potentially find himself in a bigger role following the departures of Klay Thompson and Chris Paul, especially as he faces a make-or-break season for his tenure in the Bay Area.

“Moody is a jack of all trades but a master of none,” Hughes wrote. “He’s got ideal wing size and length as a defender, shoots the three at 36.4 percent for his career and generally plays within himself. It’s just that the Warriors seem to always have one or two players who are better at each of those individual skills…Moody enters a prove-it season with new obstacles to his playing time in De’Anthony Melton, Buddy Hield and Kyle Anderson, plus an ascendant Brandin Podziemski.”

Golden State reportedly offered the Utah Jazz a trade package centered around Moody when attempting to bring Lauri Markkanen to the Bay Area. With that deal failing to come to fruition, Moody has extra incentive to have a breakout season and cement himself in the rotation.

Moody is entering the final year of his current contract. He will be a restricted-free agent next summer. As such, he must make the most of his opportunities in the upcoming season and prove that he can be an impactful member of the rotation. Otherwise, he may be better suited to finding a new team and proving himself elsewhere in the league.

The Warriors championship window is still open

How long can the Golden State Warriors championship window remain open?

The Golden State Warriors won their last championship in 2022. Outside of Klay Thompson, who left the team in free agency this summer, the entire core of that roster is still in the Bay Area. Over the first few weeks of the offseason, the Warriors have acquired multiple veteran talents with the aim of bouncing back after a difficult 2023-24 campaign.

According to Joe Lacob, who was speaking on a recent episode of Tim Kawakami’s “The TK Show” podcast, the Warriors championship window is likely to be open longer than what most people expect, despite the fact Steph Curry and Draymond Green are both in the final stages of their career.

“I do view that our window is a little longer than people think,” Lacob told Kawakami. “If there’s such a thing as a window. But with respect to Steph, let’s just say … I think the window’s probably longer than people give it credit for. He’s in remarkable shape. I do not see some big slowdown from Steph here. In fact, I would argue he’s one of the best players on the Olympic team.”

Golden State has been straddling two timelines in recent years. The young core of Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga, Trayce Jackson-Daivs and Moses Moody have all shown promise of developing into high-level players. The quicker they can take steps in their development, the more likely it is that Curry and Green can continue contending at the highest level.

Whether the Warriors’ window can stay open long enough for the franchise to get Curry and Green another ring will remain to be seen. However, it does appear that the front office is bullish on the franchise’s chances.

Watch: Moses Moody putting in work during offseason

The 22-year-old guard averaged 8.1 points on 46.2% shooting from the field in 17.5 minutes per game last season.

Following the departure of Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors will likely have to lean on their young core to replace valuable minutes next season. Fourth-year wing Moses Moody is a candidate to fill minutes in Golden State’s new-look rotation in 2024.

In his third season, Moody played a career-high in minutes per game at 17.5. Moody averaged 8.1 points on 46.2% shooting from the field to go along with three rebounds per contest.

With an important season looming for the Warriors, Moody is putting in work at the gym during the offseason. The 22-year-old Arkansas product shared a clip from a recent workout on his Instagram.

Jazz asking price for Lauri Markkanen could scare off Warriors

The Utah Jazz have set a lofty asking price for a potential Lauri Markkanen trade.

The Golden State Warriors could potentially back out of negotiations for Lauri Makkanen. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Utah Jazz want a package centered around Moses Moody, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski and future draft capital in return for the multi-skilled forward.

The Warriors have reportedly made Kuminga untouchable in trade discussions this summer. As such, the Jazz must lower their expectations in terms of a potential trade package, otherwise the Warriors could walk away from the negotiating table and look elsewhere for some additional improvements to the roster.

“The Jazz, however, have asked for the bulk of young talent and capital the Warriors possess, including Moody, Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski, along with picks, which has been a non-starter thus far for Golden State, league sources said,” Charania reported.

Markkanen will enter unrestricted free agency next summer. The Warriors would undoubtedly want assurances he would re-sign with the franchise before parting with any of their young talents or future draft assets.

Nevertheless, Golden State is highly unlikely to part with its entire young core, especially Kuminga. As such, Utah is running the risk of pricing Markkanen out of trade this summer, which could hinder the team when he hits the free-agent market in 2025.

Warriors trade offer for Lauri Markkanen revealed

The Golden State Warriors trade offer for Lauri Markkanen has been revealed.

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly interested in acquiring Lauri Markkanen from the Utah Jazz. He would provide the size and skill the team has been missing in the frontcourt for multiple years. However, Danny Ainge is a notoriously difficult negotiator, and that could lead to a drawn-out trade saga.

In a recent article from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Warriors’ initial trade offer for the veteran forward was revealed. Golden State would be willing to part with Moses Moody and multiple future draft picks. Utah is currently in a rebuilding phase, so that package would help provide future flexibility in the trade market.

“League sources tell The Athletic they have discussed a proposal around Moses Moody, multiple first-round picks, multiple pick swaps and multiple second-round picks,” Charania reported.

Golden State has enough trade capital to land a star-level talent. After missing out on Paul George at the start of free agency, Markkanen projects as the perfect secondary or tertiary star alongside Steph Curry and Draymond Green.

Furthermore, Markkanen is young enough to slot into the front office’s future plans, and potentially form a devastating partnership with Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski. Still, it’s unclear whether Utah and the Golden State will reach an agreement to sent Markkanen to the Bay Area.

Warriors land 26-year-old shot blocker in latest proposed trade

The proposed trade would land a 7-foot shot-blocker with the Golden State Warriors, but it would cost Moses Moody.

This past season, one of the Golden State Warriors‘ biggest weaknesses was a lack of size in the frontcourt. Opposing teams often succeeded by pressuring the rim and forcing the Warriors to send multiple bodies into the paint.

As such, Golden State could look to add a rim protector during the offseason.

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zach Buckley proposed a trade that would see the Warriors acquire Mitchell Robinson from the New York Knicks in return for Gary Payton II, Moses Moody and a 2026 first-round draft pick.

“The Knicks have tangible proof they can win big without Robinson, so maybe they aren’t keen on keeping his $14.3 million salary on their books,” Buckley reasoned. “The Warriors, who could be angling for more size, could give New York an out with Robinson while sending back a bulldog defender in Payton, a young three-and-D wing in Moody and a lightly protected future first-round pick to help reel in a bigger fish at a later date.”

Mitchell is a legitimate 7-footer who can protect the rim, rebound at an elite level and operate as a rim-runner on offense. He could thrive in the Warriors’ spaced-out offense, where he would have significant room to roam in the paint and provide vertical spacing due to his lob threat.

Robinson could help beef up Golden State’s defense while giving them a new dimension on the offensive end. However, the price of trading Moody may be too costly for a non-shooting big man.

Warriors would land former NBA champion in latest proposed trade

The proposed trade would send Bobby Portis to the Golden State Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors have abundant tradable assets at their disposal, from draft picks to veterans on reasonable contracts to young talents that need additional minutes within a rotation. If the Warriors want to change their roster, they’re more than capable of getting involved in the trade market.

According to Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, a potential trade with the Milwaukee Bucks could benefit both sides. The trade would see Gary Payton II, Moses Moody, the 52nd pick in the 2024 draft and a 2026 second-round pick heading for the Eastern Conference. In return, Golden State would receive Bobby Portis and Andre Jackson Jr.

“This really only works if there are big Moody fans in Milwaukee’s front office,” Buckley wrote. “But as a player constantly cited by outside observers as someone deserving of more minutes than he gets in Golden State, perhaps those fans are present. If nothing else, he has the shooting touch to play alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, which isn’t the case for Jackson.”

Losing Moody would be a tough blow for the Warriors. However, his path to legitimate rotation minutes continues to look tenuous. Swapping him for Portis, who would bring grit, defense and perimeter shooting and Jackson Jr., a raw-but-talented defensive specialist, could bring balance to the Warriors’ rotation.
Portis played in all 82 of the Bucks’ regular-season games this season. He averaged 13.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 50.8% from the field and 40.7% from 3-point range. He would also bring even more championship know-how to Kerr’s roster. As such, if a deal similar to the one Buckley is proposing was to become available, Golden State would be likely to kick the tires on those discussions at least.

Trade proposal sends Brandon Ingram to Warriors

The proposed trade would see the Golden State Warriors swap Chris Paul and Moses Moody for Brandon Ingram.

After being eliminated from playoff contention in the opening round of the play-in tournament, the Golden State Warriors will likely be involved in multiple trade rumors throughout the offseason.

Their roster needs upgrading. Multiple high-level talents are expected to be available as teams adjust their rosters in light of the new collective barganing agreement.

One player widely expected to hit the trade market this summer is Brandon Ingram. The New Orleans Pelicans star struggled during the postseason and hasn’t been the best fit alongside Zion Williamson. In a recent article for Sporting News, Stephen Noh floated the Warriors as a potential destination for the All-Star scorer.

“Steph Curry and company still might have one last run in them,” Noh reasoned. “They didn’t have a reliable second scorer on the roster, leading to a massively disappointing season. Ingram could give that to them and be a good replacement in case Klay Thompson departs in free agency.”

Noh’s trade proposal would have the Warriors send Chris Paul, Moses Moody and two first-round picks to New Orleans in exchange for Ingram. Losing Moody would hurt, but overall, the package is logical and fair.

Ingram will enter the final year of his contract next season. If the front office is parting with Moody and draft assets, it would likely want a guarantee  Ingram is willing to re-sign with the franchise before finalizing such a trade.

Nevertheless, Ingram would give the Warriors the scoring boost they’ve been missing and would help bridge the gap between the team’s veteran core and young developmental talent. The trade could make sense for both teams.

Moses Moody could replace Klay Thompson in Warriors’ starting lineup

Moses Moody could potentially replace Klay Thompson in the Golden State Warriors starting lineup next season.

Klay Thompson is entering unrestricted free agency. The Golden State Warriors are widely expected to re-sign the veteran sharpshooter. Earlier this season, Thompson had a stretch of games in which he came off the Warriors bench as Steve Kerr looked to find a balance within his rotation.

Thompson could find himself occupying a bench role more consistently next season, with Moses Moody replacing him in the starting lineup. Moody has been patiently waiting for a bigger role within the Warriors rotation over the past couple of years.

“It could very well be somebody on the roster,” Kerr said. “I think our young guys are going to continue to get better. For a while we started Brandin (Podziemski) instead of Klay. So that’s a possibility. Maybe Moses moves into the starting lineup. … He’s a really good player, and he’s a young player who still has a lot of room for growth. Decision-making at both ends needs to improve. Quicker decisions. Quicker rotations defensively. Recognition of patterns.”

The Warriors boast several talented young players ready for bigger roles. Moody is among that contingent. With Thompson showing upside as a bench scorer, it could make sense for Kerr to make that role permanent, should the veteran remain in the Bay Area.

Moody, 21, could thrive in a more prominent role for Golden State, especially if he’s sharing the court with some of the team’s more experienced veterans. Whether Thompson would be willing to re-sign for a bench role will remain to be seen.
