George McCaskey spotted picking up Bears GM favorite Ryan Poles at the airport

Bears chairman George McCaskey may have just secured his team’s new GM.

They say you know it’s true love when they pick you up from the airport. If that’s the case, Chicago Bears chairman George McCaskey may have just secured his team’s new general manager.

McCaskey was spotted picking up Kansas City Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles at O’Hare International Airport late Monday evening. A fan posted a brief video of McCaskey, donned in Bears gear from head to toe, walking with Poles as they exited the airport.

On Monday, it was reported that Poles, along with Tennessee Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort, and New England Patriots senior consultant Eliot Wolf, were finalists for the vacant GM job. Other names could still be in play, such as Indianapolis Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown, but it appears as if the Bears have zeroed in one those three, with Poles potentially being the frontrunner.

Poles has held a number of roles with the Chiefs dating back to the late 2000s. He rose through the organization under multiple GMs and is highly thought of around the league as he’s helped turn the Chiefs into a perennial title contender. He spent the first part of his career in scouting before moving into player personnel. Poles is also considered a finalist for the Minnesota Vikings vacant GM job as well.

The fact the Bears chairman personally met Poles at one of the busiest airports in the world doesn’t necessarily guarantee the job is his, but it’s definitely a good sign and could mean this search is coming to an end sooner rather than later. We’ll see if he winds up going back to the airport or if he’s here to stay.

Bears conducted GM interview with Colts’ Morocco Brown

The Bears interviewed Colts’ Morocco Brown for their vacant GM role on Monday.

Indianapolis Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown had his general manager interview with the Chicago Bears on Monday, the latter team announced.

Brown was one of the early candidates for the vacancy at general manager for the Bears. Given his previous ties to the organization and the work he’s done with the Colts since 2017, Brown is a very qualified candidate.

After letting Ryan Pace go this offseason, the Bears have been busy trying to find his replacement. Brown appears to be a strong candidate for the job, along with Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds, who interviewed for the same role last week but ultimately withdrew from the team’s search.

Brown has been an integral part of the front office from a drafting standpoint. He’s had a hand in several of the big hits including running back Jonathan Taylor.

Brown was a finalist for the Falcons’ general manager gig during the 2021 offseason so it will be interesting to see how far he makes it when it comes to the search for the Bears.

Should he wind up getting the general manager gig with Chicago (or anywhere else), the Colts will be compensated heavily. As a part of the league’s initiative to reward teams for developing minority coaches and general managers, the Colts would receive an extra third-round pick in the 2022 and 2023 drafts.

Finalists for Bears GM job are becoming clearer

The Bears have started to narrow down their GM candidates to their finalists, which includes Ryan Poles and Monti Ossenfort.

The Chicago Bears are nearing the end of their search for a new general manager and head coach, and things are finally starting to progress at GM.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears have at least three finalists for their GM vacancy: Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles, Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort and Patriots senior consultant Eliot Wolf.

Rapoport also noted that Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown could also receive a second interview. He interviewed for the first time on Monday, so confirmation of a second interview could come Tuesday.

That’s not to say the finalists will stop at three or four. But we have a good idea of which direction the Bears are leading with these first three, possibly four, finalists.

Brown has been a “strong candidate” from the start of this process, and there’s a reason why he was among the last to interview.

Chicago has also requested a second interview with three head coaching candidates: Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and former Lions/Colts head coach Jim Caldwell.

We’ll see how quickly the Bears get their new GM in place before presumably starting the final round of interviews for head coach.

Bears complete interviews with Omar Khan and Morocco Brown for GM job on Monday

Omar Khan and Morocco Brown interviewed for the Bears’ vacant GM job on Monday.

The Bears are nearing the end of their search for a new general manager and head coach following the firings of Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy.

Chairman George McCaskey, President/CEO Ted Phillips, Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian, VP of Player Engagement Lamar ‘Soup’ Campbell and Senior VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Tanesha Wade will be conducting the GM search for the Bears, where they’ve been conducting interviews.

They completed two more interviews for their GM job with Steelers VP of football and business administration Omar Khan and Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown on Monday.

This should be the last of the first round of interviews for the GM job, and Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles is slated to interview for the second time on Tuesday.

According to NBC Sports Chicago’s Adam Hoge, Khan and Brown are considered “very strong candidates” for Chicago’s GM vacancy, and there’s a reason they’re interviewing near the end.

Khan has been with Pittsburgh since 2001, where he served as football administration coordinator. He was promoted to director of football administration in 2011 before landing his current role in 2016. Before joining the Steelers, Khan worked with the New Orleans Saints from 1997-2001. But there are reports that Steelers GM Kevin Colbert is expected to step down, and Khan would certainly be the favorite to succeed him.

Brown makes a ton of sense for the Bears as he spent seven years with the organization as their assistant director of pro personnel from 2001-07. He’s served as the right-hand man to Colts GM Chris Ballard, where he’s been a big part of the success that Indianapolis has had in the NFL draft.

Morocco Brown, Omar Khan considered to be ‘very strong candidates’ for Bears GM job

According to Adam Hoge, both Morocco Brown and Omar Khan are considered to be “very strong candidates” for the Bears’ GM vacancy.

The Chicago Bears are heading into the third week of their general manager and head coach search, but there appears to be an end in sight. Chicago is conducting their final interviews of the first round for their GM vacancy.

Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown and Steelers VP of football and business administration Omar Khan are interviewing for the Bears’ GM vacancy on Monday.

Brown and Khan are both widely regarded among their respective organizations, and they’ve been on Chicago’s radar.

According to NBC Sports Chicago’s Adam Hoge, both Brown and Khan are considered to be “very strong candidates” for the Bears’ GM vacancy.

“As far as I’ve been told,” Hoge said, “there’s a reason why they are interviewing towards the end.”

Hoge believes that things will “pick up steam” pretty quickly following the hiring of the GM, where the Bears could have both a new GM and head coach in place by this time next week.

Chicago already has three head coach finalists — in Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell — but no GM.

Report: Bill Polian pushing for Bears to hire Morocco Brown, Matt Eberflus

Former Colts GM BIll Polian is reportedly pushing for the Bears to hire Matt Eberflus and Morocco Brown.

The Chicago Bears are taking a long look at Indianapolis Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown and defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to fill some vacancies at general manager and head coach this offseason.

Brown is expected to have his interview for the general manager vacancy on Monday while Eberflus has already interviewed once for the head coach role. He’s expected to have his second interview on Wednesday with the Bears’ brass.

Part of that brass leading the search for both roles is former Colts general manager Bill Polian, who is reportedly pushing for the Bears to hire the combo of Brown and Eberflus, per Mike Garafolo.

Polian was hired by the Bears as a consultant after the organization fired both Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy, leaving them to conduct a search to replace both roles.

Filling those vacancies with two names from the same tree would certainly be peculiar. Both men are qualified for the roles they are interviewing for and both will get their chances sooner rather than later.

How the Bears feel about going with first-timers in each role remains to be seen.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how this works out considering the hand Polian has in the matter.

Tracking the Colts’ interviews for other HC, GM vacancies

Tracking the HC and GM interviews the Colts have taken this offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts have become a popular target across the league when it comes to teams filling their vacancies at head coach and general manager.

The process has been well underway for a few weeks now with the New York Giants being the only team to have named a new general manager. They went with former Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen.

The Colts have had a few executives interview for vacant general manager roles while a pair of assistant coaches have interviewed for head coach and offensive coordinator vacancies.

Here’s all of the interviews we know so far involving the Colts’ executives and assistant coaches:

Report: Bill Polian pushing for Matt Eberflus-Morocco Brown combo for Bears head coach, GM

Sounds like Matt Eberflus and Morocco Brown are the favorites for Bears head coach and GM. But there’s one GM candidate still firmly in it.

The Chicago Bears are wrapping up the second week of their head coach and general manager search, where there are some candidates starting to emerge as favorites for the vacancies.

The Bears would ideally like to have a GM in place before hiring a head coach. While they’ve been interviewing both GM and head coach candidates simultaneously, it seems like they’ve still committed to that. And there are some new favorites emerging.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, there’s been talk that Bill Polian, who’s assisting in the search, has been pushing for a Matt Eberflus-Morocco Brown combination at head coach and GM.

There’s an obvious Indianapolis Colts connection as Eberflus serves as the defensive coordinator while Brown serves as the college scouting director in Indy. Polian served as the Colts’ team president and GM from 1998-2011.

It’s the kind of arranged marriage that doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

But Garafolo noted that there’s also a wild card in the mix in Chiefs executive Ryan Poles, who has impressed them. Poles is “firmly in the mix” for that GM vacancy, and he’s the first GM candidate to receive a second interview.

Poles has been in high demand this offseason as he was a finalist for the New York Giants GM position before they went with Joe Schoen as GM. Poles is also a finalist for the Minnesota Vikings GM opening.

Colts’ Morocco Brown to interview for Bears GM role next week

Morocco Brown will have a GM interview with the Bears next week.

Indianapolis Colts director of college scouting Morocco Brown is expected to interview for the Chicago Bears general manager vacancy on Monday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

This is the third different report about Brown’s interview with the Bears. First, he was expected to interview on Tuesday of this week. Then, it was reported that the interview would be Thursday. Now, it has been pushed back to Monday of next week.

It isn’t yet clear if this coincides with the second interview with Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who has emerged as a finalist for the Bears’ vacancy at head coach. Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds withdrew from the Bears’ search following his interview on Monday.

Brown was one of the early candidates for the vacancy at general manager for the Bears. Given his previous ties to the organization and the work he’s done with the Colts since 2017, Brown is a very qualified candidate.

Brown has been an integral part of the Colts’ front office from a drafting standpoint. He’s had a hand in several of the big hits including running back Jonathan Taylor.

Brown was a finalist for the Falcons’ general manager gig during the 2021 offseason so it will be interesting to see how far he makes it when it comes to the search for the Bears.

Bears GM interviews will continue into next week

The Bears’ GM search continues into next week, where Morocco Brown will interview for the job on Monday.

The Chicago Bears are in the thick of their search for a new general manager and head coach, which has stretched into a second week. The Bears are one of four teams currently searching for both a GM and head coach.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears’ GM search will stretch into next week, where they’re slated to interview Indianapolis Colts college scouting director Morocco Brown for the GM vacancy on Monday.

Brown served as the Bears assistant director of pro personnel from 2001-07, which means there’s definitely a connection there. Brown has been considered a prime GM candidate even dating back to last season, where he interviewed for Atlanta Falcons’ opening.

The Bears are one of four teams currently searching for both a GM and head coach, which means they could be at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of the hiring process at head coach. Chairman George McCaskey said they’d ideally like to have a GM in place before hiring a head coach.

Chicago still has quite a few GM interviews to conduct, including Steelers VP of football and business administration Omar Khan, former Texans GM Rick Smith, Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles and Brown on Monday.
