The Yankees fans who grabbed Mookie Betts have been banned from Game 5, which is the right call

MLB made the right call by banning the two Yankees fans who grabbed Mookie Betts for Game 5.

In a better world, the reaction coming out of the Yankees’ Game 4 victory in the 2024 World Series on Tuesday would have focused on New York staving off elimination with a sparkling offensive performance.

Instead, all the air has been sucked out of the room thanks to a pair of doofus Yankees fans who grabbed Dodgers’ star Mookie Betts while the outfielder was going up for a foul ball. The fans were ejected for their actions, but seemingly showed no remorse for the whole affair when asked after the fact. Even though the memes coming out of the moment are funny, the whole thing is incredibly embarrassing amidst an overall a poor showing from Yankees fans during the game.

In the fallout from it all, there were questions as to if the two Yankees fans would be allowed back in the building for Game 5. While it was first reported they would be, the New York Post and ESPN both confirmed the pair are banned from Wednesday’s game and will have their tickets refunded.

All in all, this is the right move. Putting your hands on a player — or honestly, anyone — like that is dangerous behavior. Collisions between players and fans can happen in any sport, just ask photographers on NFL sidelines, but the actions by these two Yankees fans crossed the line into unacceptable territory.

Even the Yankees put out a statement on Wednesday calling the actions “egregious and unacceptable”.

In all honesty, MLB should ban these two fans for life, as a dismissal in the final Yankees home game of the season — and a refund of their tickets — feels like a slap on the wrist here. Actions like these should have consequences but, at the very least, the pair will have to find someplace else to watch Game 5 than Yankee Stadium.

The Yankees fans who grabbed Mookie Betts need a lifetime ban

These Yankee fans need to be banned for life.

We need to talk seriously what really happened on Tuesday night at the New York Yankees’ Game 4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Bronx.

Two Pinstripes fans decided that it was perfectly OK to grab Mookie Betts’ glove as he made a catch in foul ground and rip the ball out of there. They were rightfully removed from Yankee Stadium.

Now, that was all awful on its own. In case you need to be told: those actions from those fans are NEVER OK. It’s dangerous and disgusting behavior. But it gets worse thanks to the quotes from one of the fans.

ESPN’s Jesse Rogers caught up with Austin Capobianco and John Peter. Capobiano said they had planned for the possibility of a foul ball coming their way in this manner: “We’re not going to go out of our way to attack. If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up.”

That’s right, they thought about this. Ahead of time. Really?

And on top of that, Capobianco claimed they were told by the Yankees “they would be allowed back for Game 5 on Wednesday” (Capobianco is a season-ticket holder). Rogers didn’t get a response from the Yankees whether that was true or not.

Let’s just cut to the chase: his season tickets should be revoked, and he and Peter should be banned for life. In what world should that be rewarded? How would Betts feel showing up in right field again to see those fans there again? What if the same situation comes up and he doesn’t try to make the catch because he’s worried about fans ripping his arm off?

This is simple, Yankees franchise and Major League Baseball. Do the right thing.

Yankees fan who grabbed Mookie Betts’ glove has zero shame about his actions

“If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up.”

It was the dumbest thing to do, World Series game or otherwise: a pair of New York Yankees fans tried to yank Mookie Betts’ glove off after the Los Angeles Dodgers star made a catch in foul ground, popping the ball out.

It was, of course, fan interference, and while the memes were immaculate, the die-hards in question were removed from the game.

Per an interview with ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the fans — Austin Capobianco and John Peter — have discussed the possibility of this very thing happening. Capobianco is a season-ticket holder.

And yes, they have no shame about what they did:

Capobianco, a Yankees season-ticket holder, said he knew he would be in trouble but chose to grab and open Betts’ glove nonetheless, telling ESPN that he and Peter often discuss this exact scenario: If a foul ball comes their way, they’re going to do what they can to help their team.

“We always joke about the ball in our area,” Capobianco, 38, said at a local bar after the game. “We’re not going to go out of our way to attack. If it’s in our area, we’re going to ‘D’ up.

“Someone defends, someone knocks the ball. We talk about it. We’re willing to do this.”

Wow.

The Yankees fan who interfered with Mookie Betts turned into a hysterical World Series meme

Hey, at least the memes were good.

A New York Yankees fan was seemingly ejected from Wednesday night’s 2024 World Series Game 4 for trying to rip Los Angeles Yankees superstar Mookie Betts’ glove off during an out.

While we’re not even going to pretend why this person thought this was a good idea, the bizarre World Series moment did inspire some fantastic memes.

People seemed to connect this Yankees fan to sketch comedy genius Tim Robinson, so you should expect some I Think You Should Leave memes in here by default.

We’re sure this New York fan won’t be back at an MLB game anytime soon, but we can enjoy these memes while we shake our heads at how stupid this was.

A moronic Yankees fan tried to yank Mookie Betts’ glove off during an out in World Series Game 4

Don’t be this fan.

One of the dumbest fan encounters of all-time went down during Tuesday night’s Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.

As Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts leaped up in the air to snag a ball going toward the stands, a Yankees fan quite literally grabbed Betts’ glove and tried to rip it off his hand.

Yes, the fan tried to take Betts’ glove off his hand and then settled for taking the ball out of his glove and throw it out. Another New York fan grabbed Betts’ hand during the ordeal and seemed to unnecessarily involve himself.

Of course, this did not go over well with the umpires, nor should it have. Both fans in question were seemingly ejected and New York was assessed an out for the fan interference.

Why this person decided to do this is beyond us, but this is the stuff that takes away from the magic of live sports.

When you make yourself part of the game for the wrong reason, you’re more a loser than either of the competitors.

Update: The Athletic confirmed that the two fans were ejected from the ballpark and included some quotes about the incident:

Capobianco’s brother, Darren, 29, said he saw Betts’ glove go over the concrete wall as he tried to make a catch on Torres’ hit.

“I just see the ball kind of — I don’t want to say (go) up for grabs, if that makes sense,” Darren Capobianco said. “And then Mookie was swearing at us. Not good.”

Dodgers star Mookie Betts refused to stay at a haunted hotel in Milwaukee (again)

Mookie Betts doesn’t believe in ghosts, but he’s still not taking any chances this time around.

Do you believe in ghosts?

Los Angeles Dodgers star right fielder Mookie Betts may not, but regardless, he’s not taking any chances.

Once again, Betts has refused to stay with the team at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, which was built in 1893 and is (allegedly) haunted. Instead, Betts has booked a separate Airbnb as he did last May when the Dodgers made the trip to face the Milwaukee Brewers.

At the time, he said that he didn’t really believe in ghosts but wanted separate accommodations “just in case” the ghost stories were true. He reaffirmed his commitment to never staying at the Pfister again this time around.

“No,” Betts said. “That ain’t going to change.”

Betts has stayed at the hotel in the past, and though he didn’t encounter anything from the great beyond, but he couldn’t sleep out of paranoia.

“Every noise, I’d be like, ‘Is that something?!?” Betts said last year.

He should be much better rested this time around for Los Angeles’ four-game series against the Brewers, which begins on Monday night.

Mookie Betts had an extremely classy response after noticing that Lane Thomas got hurt on a stolen base

This is what sportsmanship is all about.

While Shohei Ohtani’s blistering 450-foot home run was the obvious highlight from the Dodgers’ 4-1 win over the Nationals, Mookie Betts showed what sportsmanship was all about on Tuesday.

During the fifth inning, the Nationals’ Lane Thomas stole second safely on an errant throw. But on his slide, his leg got caught underneath him with the Nats outfielder in obvious pain.

Betts was closest to Thomas on the play and noticed that Thomas was struggling. He intervened to make sure Thomas didn’t hurt himself worse and caught Thomas as he struggled around the base. And shortly after that, it actually seemed like Thomas was OK.

@mlb Mookie immediately checking on him tells me everything i need to know ❤️ #emotional #baseball #real #moments ♬ slow piano music(1297827) – syummacha

Thomas did stay in the game briefly and shared a laugh with Betts who seemed relieved that Thomas wasn’t seriously hurt. But that knee did start to tighten up on Thomas the following inning, and he was taken out of the game. Thomas is set for an MRI on that knee Wednesday and is likely heading to the injured list.

Still, it was all class from Betts to show concern for Thomas in that moment. Some things are just bigger than the game.

Mookie Betts says playing the Dodgers will be every other MLB team’s World Series this season

Do you think the Dodgers are the team to beat in the MLB this season?

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts made a bold proclamation about how teams are going to approach playing L.A. this season.

At Saturday’s DodgerFest, Betts remarked in an interview that, when other teams play the Dodgers this season, it’ll be their version of playing in the World Series. It’s something he adds Los Angeles “signed up” to face this spring.

While Betts is alluding to the understandable fact that other teams are going to give this Dodgers superteam their best during every outing this year, it also highlights how Los Angeles views itself: as the clear team to beat this season.

Other teams might not like how Betts phrased this, as they probably want the actual World Series to be their World Series, not a regular season series with the Dodgers.

Sure, the Dodgers adding the best player in baseball with Shohei Ohtani certainly helped make Los Angeles the de-facto World Series favorite this upcoming season.

However, there are a lot of really good MLB teams waiting to prove Betts and the Dodgers wrong that they’re the biggest obstacle standing in the way of a World Series victory in 2024.

1 Golden Globes photo of Mookie Betts reacting to Jo Koy’s monologue has MLB fans laughing

Mookie Betts looks completely MYSTIFIED that someone’s jokes could be THAT bad.

The Golden Globes might be over, but photos from the night are the gift that keeps on giving because Mookie Betts is the second Dodgers player to be spotted discreetly attending the star-studded event.

The Golden Globes are producing new Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez memes, celebrity-on-celebrity fangirl moments and even lip-reading analysis. Still, the most underrated gift from the whole event has been spotting Dodgers players just casually hanging out.

First, it was Freddie Freeman photobombing Taylor Swift. Now, some serious investigators have found his teammate Mookie Betts reacting to Jo Koy’s horrific opening monologue, and it’s absolutely glorious.

Right on cue, MLB fans came with the jokes, and they did not disappoint.

MLB fans can’t believe the Dodgers are on the brink of elimination vs. the surprising Diamondbacks

The Dodgers are on the brink.

Holy bad baseball, Batman. It’s ugly! Cover your eyes, Los Angeles Dodgers fans.

The Dodgers have a loaded roster filled with absolutely filthy baseball players. It’s hard not to like the talent they have: Clayton Kershaw, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Will Smith, and the list goes on. (Seriously, this team is unfair!)

The team has won ten division titles in a row dating back to 2013 and won a World Series in 2020. However, the Dodgers often cannot get out of their way. Meltdowns and the Dodgers are nearly synonymous.

For example, after winning a franchise-record 111 games, they were eliminated in the 2022 National League Division Series (NLDS) by the San Diego Padres, a team they went 14-5 against during the regular season.

It’s deja vu, as the Arizona Diamondbacks have surprised the Dodgers (we tried to tell you) and the baseball world in the 2023 NLDS with a commanding 2-0 lead as the series heads back to Arizona.

Dodgers and MLB fans expect greatness, but they’re all getting sadness. Rightfully so, they are tweeting through it, even though the Dodgers could still come back.

I am sending thoughts and good vibes and highlighting reels of better days to fans everywhere.
