Ravens make a list of ten NFL teams that must invest in RB position this offseason

The Baltimore Ravens made an NFL.com list of ten teams that must invest in the running back position this offseason

Baltimore is 1st in the NFL with 155.1 rushing yards per game, and the running backs play a huge role in grounding and pounding the opposition.

Lamar Jackson gets a lot of the love, but Gus Edwards has done his part with 564 rushing yards (4.3 YPC) and ten touchdowns.

Still, all NFL teams have to assess the future when evaluating their rosters, and Baltimore currently only has Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell under contract this season.

Former UCLA and Jacksonville Jaguars star and current NFL Network analyst Maurice Jones-Drew did a roster evaluation for all 32 teams at the running back spot, and the Ravens, along with the Eagles and eight other teams, made a list of clubs that must invest capital at the position in 2024.

Eagles make a list of ten NFL teams that must invest in RB position this offseason

The Philadelphia Eagles made an NFL.com list of ten teams that must invest in the running back position this offseason

The Eagles are 8th in the NFL in rushing yards per game (128.1), and D’Andre Swift’s 690 rushing yards are third in the NFL entering Sunday’s action.

Kenneth Gainwell is second on the team at the running back spot, with 172 yards through 10 games.

Still, all NFL teams have to assess the future when evaluating their rosters, and Philadelphia currently only has Gainwell under contract for next season.

MJD calls Buccaneers’ talent pool ‘top-heavy’

See why NFL analyst Maurice Jones-Drew has some concerns about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season.

On paper, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look like a team ready to play in Super Bowl LV, which just so happens to be at Raymond James Stadium next year.

Tom Brady’s arrival has injected new life and excitement into a franchise and fan base looking for a return to the glory days, when a dominant defense and balanced offense helped lead the Bucs to their one and only Super Bowl win following the 2002 season.

With the Bucs, Brady will have one of the most talented offenses he’s ever worked with in his two decades in the NFL thanks to wide receivers Chris Godwin and Mike Evans along with tight end Rob Gronkowski. Plus, the addition of veteran running back LeSean McCoy can’t be overlooked.

But as talented as this team looks, Maurice Jones-Drew over at NFL.com had the Bucs sitting at No. 4 on his list of the 10 most talented teams. Surprisingly, he had both the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons ranked ahead of Tampa Bay at one and two, respectively.

Here’s what MJD said about the Bucs:

“There’s no shortage of talent in the NFC South, with three teams landing in the top four of this list. The Bucs finished third in total and scoring offense a year ago, then went out and signed six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and traded for future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski, who came out of retirement to rejoin Brady and the Bucs. This is the scariest passing unit in the league right now, and to be frank, I don’t know how defenses can stop an offense that has Brady, Gronk, O.J. Howard, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Drafting one of the top O-line prospects, Tristan Wirfs, to protect Brady, who’ll be 43 on Aug. 3, only helps. The Bucs’ defense features a linebacking crew full of stars — OLBs Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaq Barrett and ILBs Lavonte David and Devin White — but the secondary is an area of concern. The bottom line with Tampa: The team’s talent pool is top-heavy — which is enough to put the Bucs above both Super Bowl LIV reps.”

MJD is right about the secondary, although there’s reason for optimism. From Week 10 on last season the Bucs allowed 50 less passing yards per game, and the addition of safety Antoine Winfield Jr. should provide a spark for the unit as well.

The battle for the NFC South crown will make this division one of the most challenging this season. Three future Hall of Fame quarterbacks going at it along with a Carolina Panthers team that will look to play spoiler to all three.

Should be a fun watch.

Eagles’ Miles Sanders among second-year running backs set for breakout season in 2020

Miles Sanders among running backs set for a breakout season in 2020

[jwplayer nf6ilR93]

Josh Jacobs was the big name rookie running back in the NFL last season and he didn’t disappoint, as the Las Vegas Raiders star finished his rookie season with 1,150 rushing yards and was second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.

Jacobs did most of his damage early on, while a star was born in Philadelphia, as Miles Sanders came on after Jordan Howard’s injury and paired with Carson Wentz to help carry the Eagles offense into the playoffs.

Sanders is preparing for an MVP season and one former NFL running back believes the Eagles star will have a breakout campaign. Maurice Jones-Drew is an analyst for NFL.com and recently broke down three second-year running backs set for breakout seasons.

Sanders made the list, joined by the Bills Devin Singletary and the Bears David Montgomery.

Miles Sanders
Philadelphia Eagles · RB
Year 1: 16 games | 179 att | 818 rush yds | 4.6 ypc | 3 rush TDs | 50 rec | 509 rec yds | 3 rec TDs

Sanders played well behind an Eagles’ offensive line that was among the best in the league in run-blocking in 2019. With 38-year-old veteran Jason Peters swinging inside to take over for injured guard Brandon Brooks, the second-year running back will have to do more and create more lanes on his own. The Eagles have shuffled through running backs over the last five seasons, so the pressure is on Sanders to solidify himself as a mainstay in the backfield. If he doesn’t, the Eagles will have no issue moving on, like they’ve done in the past. That should be a big motivator for Sanders. I think he’ll rise to the challenge, even with the Eagles adding to the passing game this offseason in an effort to get Carson Wentz back to the MVP form he displayed in 2017 before his season-ending knee injury. That said, I predict Sanders will earn 1,500 scrimmage yards, including 1,000 rushing yards (which would make him Philly’s first 1,000-yard rusher since LeSean McCoy in 2014) and 10 total TDs.

Sanders could be the running back that finally allows the Eagles to do away with their running back by committee approach. Sanders has the potential to be a top-10 running back in 2020 and if he can avoid nagging injuries, could push for 1,000+ yards rushing and receiving.
