Missouri was going to get walloped by Georgia and Texas A&M, it was going to beat North Texas and Vanderbilt, and then the South Carolina game was going to be a shot at one last moment of fun before getting destroyed by Florida and …

The Tigers weren’t anything special in the 24-23 win, but they got the W, they’re bowl eligible, and Dan Mullen got whacked.

Pulling this off against Arkansas starts with the pass rush. The Hog offensive line gives up plays in the backfield, and Mizzou has to get to KJ Jefferson just enough to keep him from getting comfortable.

The offense has to get the ground game going early – the team is 5-0 when running for 200 yards – and banged up QB Conor Bazelak has to at least his his third down throws because …

Why Arkansas Will Win

Arkansas keeps on coming.

It might not always be dominant, and it hasn’t come close to playing the same type of game twice in a row, but at least the O is consistently good at being balanced.

Missouri’s run defense can be blasted on – it starts there. Arkansas wasn’t able to get things going on the ground against LSU or Alabama, but it was able to control the Mississippi State game well enough to get by.

Missouri dinks and dunks with its passing game, but it’s not as effective at it as Mississippi State.

What’s Going To Happen

Arkansas might have lost to Alabama, but that was a great fight with the team battling and battling some more to make it interesting. However, there’s little margin for error here coming off that tough fight.

It was +3 in turnover margin against LSU, and it only won 16-13. It was mistake-free against Mississippi State, and it was still a fight. It blinked in the 52-51 loss to Ole Miss by being -2 in turnovers – and still almost won.

Missouri isn’t quite explosive enough of consistent enough on both sides of the ball to handle an Arkansas team that might not have a ton of high-end talent, but it does a whole lot of things right.

Why Arkansas Will Win

The Hogs have gone on a run.

They struggled after a 9-0 start including an 81-68 uggo at home against Missouri, but they’ve bounced back over the last few weeks winning five of their last six – and going 5-0 on the run in SEC play – by being to from the field and monstrous on the boards.

The O has been doing just five from three, and when it didn’t do much form the outside against Mississippi State, it made everything from the free throw line.

They were massively outrebounded in the first meeting 46-32, but that was an aberration – those were the most boards given up by Arkansas all year, and Mizzou isn’t normally that amazing on the glass.

Why Missouri Will Win

Missouri is great at making teams play its style, and it starts by guarding well from three and forcing just enough mistakes to overcome the faults.

It continues to be a maddening Tiger team. It found a way to get by Alabama and got enough defense to get by in a slew of SEC road games, and then everything went wrong a few days ago in a blowout loss to Ole Miss.

Teams are shooting well on this D, but the Tigers always seem to find the right plays at the right times down the stretch. But the biggest factor seems to be …

What’s Going To Happen

Missouri likes being at home.

It got rocked by Tennessee back in late 2020, but it’s 8-0 in the other games in Columbia, and Arkansas 2-4 in its last six games on the road.

After the clunker Mizzou came up with against the Rebels, expect the defense to be back after giving up way too many easy shots. Arkansas will want to get moving, but the Tigers will slow it all down – to a point.

Expect a fun, high-scoring game.

Why Arkansas Will Win

The Hogs aren’t screwing up enough to matter.

They’ve been able to tighten up, with just two giveaways over the last five tams, and they haven’t lost the turnover margin since the opener against Georgia – even then, they were -1.

Missouri doesn’t turn the ball over all that often, but it also doesn’t take the ball away – the D is dead last in the SEC at generating turnovers.

The Tigers have given it up multiple times in three games. The Hogs are 3-1 when forcing two takeaways or more, and 0-4 when they don’t.

Offensively, Feleipe Franks continues to be strong, he’s hitting on the big plays more than he has all season, and he’s coming off a season-high 339-yard day in the loss to LSU, but …

Why Missouri Will Win

The Razorbacks lost their star running back. Rakeem Boyd didn’t play against LSU, and now he’s opting out on the rest of the season to get ready for the NFL Draft. Trelon Smith is the team’s leading rusher – and he’s had a stronger season than Boyd – but losing Boyd still hurts.

Lost in the history-making moment when Vanderbilt’s Sarah Fuller suited up to play was how good Missouri was last week in the 41-0 loss. Fuller was only able to come up with one kickoff because Vandy never got in field goal range.

The Tigers ripped through the Commodore defense in all ways, the defense allowed just 196 yards, and very, very quietly, they’re 4-1 in the last five games with only a loss to Florida.

What’s Going To Happen

Arkansas continues to be terrific compared to the disaster of the last few seasons, but Mizzou is getting better and better as the season has gone on.

The defense leads the SEC against the pass, the offense capitalizes on every opportunity, and the team isn’t going to make enough mistakes for the Hogs to pull this off.

Why Missouri Will Win

This is now the Tigers’ bowl game.

There was hope for the NCAA to reverse its ridiculous decision to punish Missouri for self-reported and fixed transgressions, but no … the bowl ban this season holds.

Little Rock will have to serve as the place to have some fun playing a little more football.

Arkansas shouldn’t be anything more than a light scrimmage with an offense that can’t move the ball, a defense that can’t stop anyone on third downs, and hurt mostly be a painfully inefficient and ineffective passing game that can’t keep the pace with anyone.

Mizzou might be having a whole ton of problems on its own, but the defense is playing well. The secondary will clamp down, it won’t allow any long marches, and the run D is holding everyone to around 130 yards per game.

Why Arkansas Will Win

Didn’t you used to be the Missouri offense?

Kelly Bryant hasn’t been the same over the second half of the season after getting banged up a bit, and the passing game has stalled over the last five games.

How bad have things gotten?

Missouri only went under the 400 total yardage mark once over the first half of the season, and then everything went haywire in the strange loss to Vanderbilt. Ever since then, the O hasn’t managed 300 yards.

The passing game has been bad, the ground attack worse – the Tigers haven’t rushed for 100 yards in three straight games – and there’s nothing that’s consistently working well.

The Arkansas defense should finally get a bit of a break, but …

What’s Going To Happen

Missouri’s running game is about to get healthy.

Everyone from WKU to Kentucky to Auburn to Colorado State has been able to rush for 200 yards, and the Tigers aren’t about to get too complicated about its attack. It’s going to line up, blast away, and let the defense take care of the rest.

However, Mizzou is 0-4 on the road this year, and it’s not above clunking against a bad team – witness the 21-14 loss to Vandy.

Arkansas will keep this close, but it won’t be able to come through late.
