What Lane Kiffin said about facing Georgia

Ole Miss Rebels coach Lane Kiffin explains Georgia’s situation with quarterback Carson Beck: “It’s a good problem to have.”

Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin has had Saturday’s matchup with the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs circled on his calendar for a long time. Kiffin and Ole Miss lost to Georgia 52-17 in Athens a year ago. Kiffin vowed to change things within his program following the Rebels’ humbling loss to Georgia last season.

Now, No. 16 Ole Miss (7-2, 3-2) faces Georgia (7-1, 5-1) with its College Football Playoff hopes on the line at home. Kiffin has a lot of respect for Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart.

“Anybody that’s going to win it (the playoff), it’s going to have to go through Georgia at some point. They’re the premier program in college football. You know, outside of Alabama, they won 51 straight games,” said Kiffin. Georgia’s last loss, outside of Alabama, came to Florida in 2020.

Kiffin and Ole Miss beefed up their defensive front and other areas of their roster in the offseason in preparation for playing teams like Georgia. The Rebels have the third-best scoring defense in the SEC at 13.2 points per game and the SEC’s top rushing defense at only 82.2 yards per game.

“I hope so,” said Kiffin when asked if the Rebels roster is better this season versus last season. “You know, that game didn’t go very well a year ago. But every game is independent and different, so yeah, I think we’re in a better place.”

Ole Miss’ season has not gone exactly to plan with the Rebels suffering losses to LSU and Kentucky. Still, Ole Miss has a very strong team that will be much more competitive against Georgia this season.

“I think he is very talented, played great, played an amazing game against us a year ago,” said Kiffin on Georgia quarterback Carson Beck. “You know, he’s throwing some picks, but quarterbacks go through that.”

Beck has thrown 11 interceptions over his past five games. Georgia’s offense has remained effective despite Beck’s turnover issues.

“You got a great quarterback, versus some people around the country who say ‘okay, well they protect the ball but the quarterback can’t make the throws.’ So it’s a good problem to have,” continued Kiffin on Beck, who is still the No. 15 quarterback in the country in passing yardage with 2,302 yards.

Georgia plays Ole Miss at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Georgia-Ole Miss football will be a night game

The Georgia-Ole Miss football game will be a night game televised on ESPN

The Georgia-Ole Miss game will be a night game that will be televised at 7 p.m. ET on CBS on Nov. 11. Georgia and Ole Miss both took care of business over the weekend.

Ole Miss enters the Georgia game as the No. 10 team in the country, per the US LBM Coaches Poll. Georgia remains the No. 1 team in the country.

The Rebels and head coach Lane Kiffin are 8-1 entering the Georgia game. Georgia is 9-0 and is coming off a 30-21 victory over the Missouri Tigers. Ole Miss’s lone defeat is to Alabama, so the Rebels not out of the College Football Playoff picture yet.

ESPN’s College GameDay is coming to Athens, Georgia, for the Ole Miss game. The winner of the Georgia-Ole Miss game will still have an excellent shot at making the College Football Playoff. The loser will face a steep climb.

Ole Miss defeated Texas A&M 38-35 in a wild Week 10 game. Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Quinshon Judkins form one of the best running back-quarterback combinations in the country.

SEC sets potential game times for Georgia-Ole Miss

The Georgia-Ole Miss football game will either be played at 3:30 p.m. ET or will be a night game

The Southeastern Conference has set three potential game times for the Georgia-Ole Miss game.

The uncertainty exists because the SEC’s game of the week on CBS for Week 11 is still being determined. The conference has three potential options: Ole Miss at Georgia, Florida at LSU and Tennessee at Missouri. One of those will be on CBS at 3:30 p.m. ET. The other two will be televised on the SEC Network at 7:30 p.m. ET or on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.

If Georgia and Ole Miss both take care of business on Nov. 4, the SEC will likely put Georgia-Ole Miss in the 3:30 p.m. ET game. Ole Miss hosts Texas A&M in Week 10 and No. 1 Georgia hosts No. 14 Missouri.

The SEC has a full slate in Week 11. Other games are Alabama at Kentucky, Vanderbilt at South Carolina, Auburn at Arkansas and Mississippi State at Texas A&M.

If Georgia and Ole Miss both win in Week 10, Georgia would be 9-0 and Ole Miss would be 8-1 entering their Nov. 11 clash. Ole Miss’s lone defeat is to Alabama, so it is not out of the College Football Playoff picture yet.

Wisconsin plays SEC foe in latest USA TODAY bowl projections

The Badgers play an SEC opponent in the latest bowl projections from USA Today:

After the Wisconsin Badgers dominated the Eastern Michigan Eagles 34-7 on Saturday, the Badgers are now projected to play against the Mississippi(Ole Miss) Rebels in the Citrus Bowl by the latest bowl projections from USA Today.

Wisconsin has played in three Citrus Bowls, while it was named the Capital One Bowl from 2003-2014. The Badgers won their first two against Auburn and Arkansas in 2006 and 2007 but lost their latest Citrus Bowl to South Carolina in 2014. It should be noted that Wisconsin has never matched up against Ole Miss before.

After an upset loss from Ohio State to Oregon, the predicted College Football Playoff teams for this week are now Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia and Oregon.

The Badgers will be off this week so there likely will not be much change in their bowl projections but they could be impacted by some major matchups happening around college football on Saturday.

Former UGA safety Otis Reese transferring to SEC foe

Former Georgia Bulldogs safety Otis Reese has found his new home. Reese is the latest member of UGA’s talented class of 2018 to transfer.

Former Georgia Bulldogs safety Otis Reese has found his new home: the University of Mississippi. Reese is joining first year head coach Lane Kiffin in Oxford. Reese is the latest member of UGA’s talented class of 2018 to transfer to another school.

Reese announced his transfer via Twitter:

Best of luck to Reese in Oxford. The Dawgs will miss the depth he would’ve provided in the secondary. UGA expects Richard LeCounte and Lewis Cine to start at safety this season. Georgia will have to replace J.R. Reed’s elite level of play.

Georgia has four-star safety Major Burns coming into the mix as well in 2020. He’s an early enrollee.
