Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Minnesota Twins (71-65) and the Texas Rangers (75-60) wrap up a 3-game series Sunday at Globe Life Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:35 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Twins vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Twins lead 5-1

The Twins have outscored the Rangers 14-8 in the 1st 2 games of the series, and Minnesota has taken 5 of 6 games from Texas just since Aug. 24. The Over is 4-1-1 in the 6 games between these 2 AL playoff contenders, too.

The Rangers have dropped 3 in a row, and Texas is just 3-12 in the previous 15 outings since Aug. 16. Pitching has really hurt Texas of late, as the Rangers staff has coughed up 5 or more runs in 10 of the last 14 outings.

Minnesota holds a 5-game lead in the AL Central over the Cleveland Guardians, while Texas is currently 2 games back in the AL West, occupying 3rd place behind the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros.

Twins at Rangers projected starters

RHP Kenta Maeda vs. RHP Jon Gray

Maeda (3-7, 4.69 ERA) makes his 17th start. He has a 1.21 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 10.4 K/9 in 78 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 IP, 6 ER, 7 H, 1 BB and 3 K in a 10-6 home win vs. the Cleveland Guardians Monday
  • 2023 road splits: 1-5, 3.19 ERA (42 1/3 IP, 15 ER), 6 HR, 1.04 WHIP, .201 opponent batting average (OBA) in 9 starts

Gray (8-7, 3.79 ERA) makes his 25th start. He has a 1.21 WHIP, 2.9 BB/9 and 7.9 K/9 in 137 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 9 K in a 4-3 road win vs. the New York Mets Monday
  • 2023 home splits: 3-4, 4.17 ERA (69 IP, 32 ER), 10 HR, 1.33 WHIP, .270 OBA in 12 starts

Twins at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, Twins 3

Moneyline

The RANGERS (-145) look to salvage at least a game in this potential playoff series preview. Texas is a good behind Gray, although it will still be a close shave. Maeda has some subpar numbers overall, but he has actually been pretty solid away from the Twin Cities.

Run line/Against the spread

The TWINS +1.5 (-160) are worth playing if you want a little bit of insurance, and you just can’t play Minnesota with Maeda on the hill. This should be a close, well-pitched game. As an underdog, Minnesota is 4-1 in the last 5 games on the run line, winning the last 3 games outright.

Over/Under

UNDER 8.5 (+100) is a solid play in his matchup of veteran righties.

The Under is 3-1 in the last 4 games overall for the Twins after a 6-0-1 run to the Over from Aug. 22-28.

The Under has cashed in 3 of the last 5 games for the Rangers, while going 4-2 in the last 6 home contests. The total has gone low for Texas in 3 of the last 4 starts with Gray on the mound, too.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Minnesota Twins (70-65) and Texas Rangers (75-59) play the 2nd game of a 3-game series at Globe Life Field Saturday (FOX). First pitch is slated for 7:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Twins vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Twins lead 4-1

The Twins kicked off a 6-game road trip with a 5-1 win in the series opener Friday behind home runs from 2B Jorge Polanco, C Christian Vazquez, and OF Jordan Luplow. Minnesota is 15-9 against the AL West this season.

Texas began a 9-game homestand Friday with the 11th loss in its last 14 games. The Rangers are allowing nearly 5.4 runs per game over that stretch. Texas is 42-25 at Globe Life Field.

Twins at Rangers projected starters

LHP Dallas Keuchel vs. LHP Jordan Montgomery

Keuchel (1-1, 3.50 ERA) will make his 4th start and 5th appearance. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 3 BB/9 and 3 K/9 in 18 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K in 2-0 home victory vs. Pittsburgh Pirates on August 20
  • Last appearance: No-decision, 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K in relief in a 7-6 home win vs. Rangers Sunday

Twins at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 7, Twins 3

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Rangers (-200) to win this game but not enough to bet 2 units to win back 1. I’ll look toward the run line in this game.

Run line/Against the spread

BET RANGERS -1.5 (+100).

The Rangers are the better team and I feel like they get back on track in this one. They are a great home team despite their recent struggles. Texas is the only team in MLB that scores over 6 runs per game at home and is 24-13 against left-handed pitchers.

Kuechel got destroyed in his only road start since returning to the bigs from AAA. He only lasted 1 1/3 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 11th, allowing 6 earned runs.

Over/Under

PASS.

While I am confident that Texas will win this game, I don’t have a good feeling either way on the total. There is some slight lean to the Over because of the Rangers’ history at home this season, but not enough to warrant any action.

Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Texas Rangers (75-58) welcome the Minnesota Twins (69-65) to Globe Life Field Friday for the opener of a 3-game series. First pitch is set for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Twins vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Twins lead 3-1

The Twins hold a 5-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central. They are 29-36 on the road this season and 4-3 over their last 7 games. Minnesota lost to the Guardians 5-2 in 10 innings Wednesday.

The Rangers had a lead in the AL West until an 8-game losing skid in August. They are 3-2 over their last 5 games and 42-24 at home this season. Texas is now 1 game behind the Seattle Marines and Houston Astros in the division. Texas last lost to the New York Mets 6-5 in 10 innings Wednesday.

Twins at Rangers projected starters

RHP Joe Ryan vs. RHP Max Scherzer

Ryan (9-8, 4.33 ERA) makes his 24th start. He has a 1.15 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 10.9 K/9 through 131 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 7 K in a 6-2 home loss vs. Rangers Saturday
  • 2023 roada stats: 3-4, 5.01 ERA in 59 1/3 IP over 11 starts

Scherzer (12-5, 3.71 ERA) makes his 25th start. He has a 1.13 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 10.5 K/9 through 138 1/3 IP for the Rangers and New York Mets.

  • Last start: No-decision, 7 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 10 K opposite Ryan in 6-2 road win Saturday
  • 2023 home stats: 5-1, 2.48 ERA in 58 IP across 10 starts

Twins at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 6, Twins 3

Moneyline

PASS.

The Rangers have the 4th-best home record in the MLB at 42-24, so I would pass on backing the Twins on the moneyline. However, given their recent struggles, I think the Rangers (-155) are just a tad too expensive.

I would rather take Texas on the run line Friday.

Run line/Against the spread

LEAN RANGERS -1.5 (+135).

The Rangers are one of two teams in the MLB that have been a home favorite in multiple games and have over a .500 cover rate on the run line. Scherzer has been dominant this season as well.

The Twins have also struggled as of late, losing 2 straight games to the Guardians and failing to cover in either. They have also lost by 2 or more runs in Ryan’s last 2 starts.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 8 (-115).

These two teams played a 4-game series last Thursday-Sunday. They cashed the Over in 3 of those 4 games and pushed in the other game. Minnesota scored 7 or more runs in 3 of the 4 games.

Minnesota is 6-2-1 O/U over its last 9 games. Texas is 5-2-1 O/U over its last 8 games.

Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Minnesota Twins (47-38) face the Texas Rangers (37-43) Friday for their 3-game series opener at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Twins vs. Rangers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Minnesota is 5-5 straight up (SU) in the last 10 games but has won back-to-back 3-game series vs. the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox.

Texas was swept in a 3-game set at the Orioles Monday-Wednesday and the Rangers are just 3-7 SU in the last 10.

First meeting this season. The Twins were 4-3 SU vs. the Rangers last year but they were even in runs scored (27-27) for those meetings.

Twins at Rangers projected starters

RHP Sonny Gray vs. RHP Jon Gray

S. Gray is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 in 54 2/3 IP over 11 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in Minnesota’s 4-3 home win vs. the Orioles Saturday with 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 HR, 3 BB and 5 K.
  • 2022 road splits: 2-1 with a 1.83 ERA (19 2/3 IP, 4 ER), 13 H, 1 HR, 2 BB and 12 K in 4 starts.

J. Gray is 4-4 with a 3.96 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 in 77 1/3 IP over 14 starts.

  • Last start: Lost 4-1 Sunday at the New York Mets with 5 2/3 IP, 4 R (3 ER), 6 H, 2 HR, 1 BB and 7 K.
  • 2022 home splits: 2-0 with a 3.44 ERA (18 1/3 IP, 7 ER), 15 H, 2 HR, 4 BB and 25 K in 3 starts.

Twins at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Twins 5, Rangers 2

Money line

BET the TWINS (-125) because they have edges in the starting pitching matchup and hitting right-handed pitching and there’s been sharp line movement headed towards Minnesota in the betting market.

S. Gray has been on a tear over his last 7 starts (4-0 with a 2.03 ERA) and grades higher than J. Gray in several advanced pitching metrics such as expected ERA, barrel rate, hard-hit rate and exit velocity, per Statcast.

Also, Minnesota’s lineup ranks higher vs. right-handed pitching in wRC+ (115-92), wOBA (.329-.295), BB/K rate (0.39-0.30), ISO (.178-.1144) and hard-hit rate (34.6-31.5%), according to FanGraphs.

Finally, the Twins have been bet from a -109 opening favorite up to the current number per Pregame.com.

Let’s follow the money and BET TWINS (-125).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Twins -1.5 (+133) isn’t a big enough payout considering they are just 10-14 RL as road favorites while the Rangers +1.5 (-165) are 15-7 RL as home underdogs.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 7.5 (+100) because S. Gray has been lights out lately and there’s reverse line movement headed south of the total since nearly 75% of the money is on the Over 7.5 (-122) but the total has been lowered from an 8-run opener, according to Pregame.com.

However, Minnesota’s ML is my favorite look in this game and the possible weather conditions are super hitter-friendly with temperatures forecasted in the low-100s and a 10 mph breeze blowing out to right-center field.

The Minnesota Twins (27-41) begin a three-game set on the road against the Texas Rangers (25-43) Friday. First pitch at Globe Life Field will be at 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Twins vs. Rangers odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Twins RHP Jose Berrios (7-2, 3.49 ERA) enters his 14th start of the season with a 1.09 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 through 77 1/3 IP.

  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

Twins 8, Rangers 3

Money line (ML)

Back the TWINS (-175) as heavy road favorites. Both teams are last in their respective division but Friday’s starting pitching matchup is skewed very heavily toward Berrios and Minnesota.

The Twins have the much more potent offense against right-handed pitching with a 10th-ranked .725 team OPS in the split compared to the Rangers’ .677 team rate. Minnesota is also third in hard-contact rate against righties and will take advantage of Foltynewicz’s home run woes.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The stronger play is to bet TWINS -1.5 (-105) for Minnesota to win by 2 or more runs.

Minnesota has been at its best with Berrios on the mound and generally pitching deep into games. Foltynewicz can’t keep baseballs in the yard and the Rangers are 4-9 when he starts.

Over/Under (O/U)

Bet OVER 8.5 (-120) with the Twins able to do most of the heavy-lifting against Foltynewicz. He is in the 19th percentile or worse in opponent hard-hit rate, expected wOBA, expected slugging percentage and average exit velocity.

Coincidentally, the Twins are 7-4 against the O/U with Berrios on the mound as the bats come out to support their ace.
