Alec Abeln details Vols’ leadership in tight end unit

Tennessee assistant coach Alec Abeln details the Vols’ leadership in tight end unit.

Tennessee football practiced for a second time during fall training camp on Thursday.

Following practice, tight ends coach Alec Abeln met with media. He discussed leadership within the Vols’ unit.

“Every guy in our room has a leadership quality that’s been really good,” Abeln said.

He mentioned Alabama transfer Miles Kitselman “comes to work every day and attacks stuff.”

“He’s a little bit more vocal, little bit more blue collar if you will,” he continued.

Holden Staes also transferred to Tennessee after playing at Notre Dame. Abeln discussed Staes ahead of the season, as well as returning redshirt freshman Ethan Davis.

“Shows up with great energy and great attention to detail every day,” Abeln said of Staes. “He’s a positive influence. E (Ethan Davis), man, when his energy is the right way, there’s nobody that’s got a better personality, better energy for our group. When he shows up with that type of energy it’s contagious for all of us, but really all of those guys have stepped up in a big way.”

Former Alabama TE Miles Kitselman transferring to SEC rival, Tennessee

On Saturday, former Alabama tight end Miles Kitselman made the decision to transfer to Tennessee. Kitselman will face his former teammates on October 19 in Knoxville.

It is rare to see SEC players transfer to their school’s archrival. That is exactly what one former Alabama player did. Former Alabama tight end Miles Kitselman transferred to Tennessee on Friday night. Kitselman spent the past two seasons at Alabama.

Prior to transferring to Alabama, Kitselman spent a season at Hutchinson Community College. There, Kitselman had two receptions for 16 yards and a touchdown. Interestingly enough, Kitselman was recruited after former Alabama head coach Nick Saban made a recruiting trip to Hutchinson to recruit former Alabama wide receiver Malik Benson. During a team practice, Saban discovered that Kitselman had what it took to play at Alabama.

Soon after, Kitselman committed to the Crimson Tide. In two seasons in Tuscaloosa, Kitselman played in 19 games. He reeled in two receptions for 18 yards. His role at Alabama was to serve as an in-line tight end which meant he was used primarily as a blocker.

Now, Kitselman will have the opportunity to finish out his college career at Tennessee. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest news regarding the Alabama football program and its former players in the NCAA transfer portal.

He committed to Tennessee on Saturday.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound junior tight end appeared in 19 games from 2022-23 for the Crimson Tide. He recorded two receptions for 18 yards.

Kitselman transferred to Alabama from Hutchinson Community College. He totaled two receptions for 16 yards and one touchdown in three games at Hutchinson Community College in 2021.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban retired on Wednesday. Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer was hired on Friday to replace Saban.

The Vols will host Alabama on Oct. 19 at Neyland Stadium during the 2024 season.

Alabama TE Miles Kitselman to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

On Wednesday, Alabama tight end Miles Kitselman announced his intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Kitselman spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama lost one of its tight ends to the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday afternoon. Miles Kitselman announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal via social media.

He becomes the sixth Alabama player to have entered the transfer portal. He joins former teammates Shazz Preston, Ja’Corey Brooks, Thaiu Jones-Bell, Isaiah Hastings, and Anquin Barnes.

Kitselman, a Kansas native, spent the past two seasons in Tuscaloosa. He played in 18 games as a member of the Crimson Tide. During that time, Kitselman reeled in two receptions for 18 yards.

Kitselman was used primarily as a blocking tight end during his time in Tuscaloosa. He was used sparingly as a pass-catcher. Kitselman will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the latest in regards to Alabama football players entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Alabama football names its Student-Athletes of the Week

Law, Oatis, and Kitselman earn this week’s honor as Student-Athletes of the Week!

We are currently right in the middle of the college football offseason, but with the SEC schedule release and recruiting, the content surrounding the Alabama Crimson Tide never ends.

On Thursday, Alabama released this week’s recipients of the Student-Athletes of the Week and a trio of second-year Crimson Tide players earned the honor, Kendrick Law, Jaheim Oatis, and Miles Kitselman.

Law is a sophomore wide receiver who appears to be making moves this offseason and could be in for a special second year in Tuscaloosa.

Oatis made himself famous with his massive weight transformation as a true freshman last season and will be among the starters along the Alabama defensive line this fall.

Kitselman is one of six tight ends battling for playing time this fall. Kitselman was an offensive lineman in high school and his physicality will likely allow him to see playing time in heavy personnel around the goal line and short-yardage situations.

Congratulations to these young men for their outstanding work in the classroom and on the gridiron.

Alabama football countdown to kickoff: 88 days

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2023 college football season in 88 days, as Middle Tennessee State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 2.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and his team take the field.

Today, with 88 days remaining, we will take a look at one of the best players to wear No. 88 for the Crimson Tide, [autotag]O.J. Howard[/autotag].

Howard put together a fantastic career for Alabama collecting 114 receptions, 1,726 yards, and seven touchdowns from 2013 to 2016.

Currently, junior tight end Miles Kitselman wears No. 88 for the Crimson Tide and should be in the rotation this fall.

Post-spring depth chart projections for Alabama’s tight ends

Projecting Alabama’s tight end depth chart post-spring!

Now that spring football has officially wrapped up and the 2023 NFL draft is complete, it is time to shift our focus to the offseason.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have a ton of questions marks exiting spring and fans are chomping at the bit for answers.

So as we dive into the dog days of summer, I thought we could take a look, position by position, and project the possible depth chart for the 2023 Alabama football team post-spring.

Together we have already taken a look at the quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers and today we will wrap up the offensive skill positions with the tight ends.

Let’s roll!

5 questions ahead of Alabama’s first scrimmage of fall camp

Despite being the overwhelming favorite heading into the season, Alabama still has some questions that need to be answered.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football team will head over to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday to partake in the first scrimmage of the 2022 fall camp. With just a handful of practices under their belt and a couple of unfortunate injuries, there are several questions that linger over the team in the early part of camp.

Since media access is very limited to practice and especially scrimmages, it is hard to say if we will receive any information of value following Saturday’s event unless coach Saban just simply offers it up, but it’s unlikely.

One thing is for certain, despite being the overwhelming favorite to win the national championship heading into the season, the Crimson Tide still has some questions that are lingering.

Let’s take a look at a few of the questions I would like to have a little more clarity on.

Alabama Morning Drive: News and notes from day 1 of fall camp

The top news and notes from day one of fall camp 2022.

Good morning, Tide fans! We have finally made it to Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week as we begin to dive into the weekend.

On Thursday, [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama football team hit the practice field to begin their work on the 2022 college football season.

Yesterday we reported the unfortunate news that star Tide tight end [autotag]Cameron Latu[/autotag] would be missing some time during fall camp with an undisclosed injury. Now, it will be up to the likes of Robbie Ouzts, Amari Niblack, Elijah Brown, Danny Lewis, and Miles Kitselman to pick up the slack in Latu’s absence.

Like coach Saban mentioned in his press conference Thursday, the young guys in the tight end room now have a great opportunity ahead of them to maybe develop a role for themself on this team.

Let’s take a look at a few other notes from Thursday’s practice.
