Michigan football assistant coach hiring tracker

Michigan football is building out its new coaching staff and with so many changes, here are those who have been connected to Ann Arbor.

Michigan football is experiencing an incredible amount of turnover on its staff, with some wholesale changes making for a new-look coaching unit set to overtake the team in 2021.

While there’s been just one addition to the offensive staff at this juncture, and it appears that most of the offensive staff will return in bulk, the defense is another story.

We already know about Michigan’s hire of defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, which was announced on Sunday, as well as the previous hire of running backs coach Mike Hart, but there are multiple names that have been reported to join the staff in short order — though none of those have been made official.

Here are all the names of those connected to coaching jobs at Michigan, what their status is, their job history and more below in our coaching tracker.

Reactions: Mike Hart returning to Michigan to coach RBs

The best reactions on social media to former Michigan football RB Mike Hart returning to Ann Arbor as the running backs coach.

Michigan football broke the internet in Ann Arbor on Wednesday when it first became apparent it was targeting former Wolverines all-time rusher Mike Hart and when it officially announced the hire shortly after it became news.

Hart has long been a fan favorite in Ann Arbor and there’s been a vocal contingent hoping that he would return to his alma mater after having successful stints coaching at Eastern Michigan, Syracuse and then after having spent the past four years at Big Ten East foe Indiana.

Now the dream is a reality, and many took to social media to express their delight at Hart coming back to wear the maize and blue, this time in a coaching capacity.

Here are some of the best reactions.

Prodigal son, come home. Michigan’s all-time leading rusher is reportedly coming back to Ann Arbor, but now in a coaching capacity, 14 years after he last strapped on a winged helmet.

Mike Hart spent a couple years in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts, but then quickly got into the coaching ranks. He started at Eastern Michigan before heading to Syracuse then Indiana, where he’s coached running backs the past several years.

But now he’s coming to Ann Arbor, as the Wolverines new running backs coach. The news was first reported by fellow former Michigan running back Jamie Morris on The M Zone on WTKA and confirmed by The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb.

As far as coaching attrition is concerned, quarterbacks coach Ben McDaniels was not retained on the offensive side of the ball. Michigan is still looking to fill Don Brown’s defensive coordinator position, though it appears that there’s an NFL assistant who will fill that role. Other positional assistants are currently up in the air.

Update:

It appears to be official, with the graphic and all.
