NFL remains mum on Mike Hall Jr. after court ruling

The NFL is still not ready to make a ruling.

The Cleveland Browns may be one step closer to getting rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. back on the field, but that is now squarely in the hands of the NFL.

Hall Jr., who was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List after he was arrested and charged with domestic violence, had his court hearing on Thursday. In his hearing, Hall Jr. pled down to one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, was fined $250, given a suspended 30-day jail sentence, and was placed on community control for two years.

Following his court hearing, the NFL is still not ready to make a ruling on his status. Here is what they had to say in a released statement:

“We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review of the Personal Conduct Policy. There’s no change in his status.”

In the meantime, the Browns will continue to trot out their veteran stable of defensive tackles who continue to play well. Getting the 21-year-old back on the field, however, would give them an explosive boost upfront.

We will continue to follow this closely as the NFL should have enough information to make a ruling.

Browns DT Mike Hall Jr. pleads down to disorderly conduct; now awaits NFL ruling

The rookie defensive tackle’s case is now closed.

After being arrested and charged with domestic violence last month, Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. has now had his case heard by a judge.

After his fiance recanted part of her statement that involved the use of a weapon, Hall Jr. has pled down from one count of domestic violence to one count of disorderly conduct. He has been fined $250, given a suspended 30-day jail sentence, and has been put on probation for two years.

The rookie second round pick, however, is still on the Commissioner’s Exempt List and has missed the first two games of the season. Now that his case is closed and he has formally pled guilty, the NFL should have a ruling turned around quickly.

With already two games served, it will be interesting if the NFL counts that as time served or if a new suspension will be in addition to.

Browns DT Mike Hall Jr. officially placed on Commissioner’s Exempt List

The Browns will be without their rookie defensive tackle for awhile.

The Cleveland Browns were missing their second round pick, Mike Hall Jr., on their initial 53-man roster. And that is because the former Ohio State product has been placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List after he was arrested and charged with domestic violence earlier this month.

This is essentially a paid leave for Hall Jr. while the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell conduct a further investigation into his case. What this means for the Browns and for Hall Jr. is that he does not get a slot on their initial 53-man roster, cannot practice, and cannot play or attend games.

He can, however, be present at the team facility to go through “meetings, workouts, therapy, rehabilitation, and other permitted non-football activities” according to ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi.

Hall Jr. has already voided all of the guarantees in his contract due to his arrest, meaning the Browns can part ways with him at any time without any financial repercussion on their end.

There is no timeframe as to how long it could take for the NFL to rule on a potential suspension on Hall Jr.

Browns bracing to be without rookie DT Mike Hall Jr.

The Browns may be without their rookie defensive tackle for some time…

The Cleveland Browns are anticipating rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. to be placed on the NFL’s Commissioner Exempt List, according to Cleveland dot com’s Mary Kay Cabot.

This comes after the well-known news of his recent domestic violence charge.  This will ultimately allow the NFL to gather more information on the situation while they come to an official decision on the length of suspension Hall may receive.

Browns fans are all too familiar with this process due to the accusations that were made against quarterback Deshaun Watson. The situation with Hall is not expected to take as long as Watson’s process and should come to a decision sooner rather than later.

During his hearing in Avon Municipal Court, Michael Hall pleaded not guilty to one charge of domestic violence. Any professional NFL player who is put on the Commissioner Exempt List is allowed to appeal this decision and request to be taken off.

The Browns front office is hoping to be informed of this decision by tomorrow’s roster cut-down deadline at 4 PM.

Victim in Mike Hall Jr. domestic violence case recants original statement

Mike Hall Jr.’s victim has recanted her original story in a new statement to the police

Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. found himself in hot water last week after he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence.

In the statement given to the police, Hall Jr.’s fiance stated that the defensive tackle had hit her with a baby bottle, thrown all of her belongings into the yard while telling her to get out, dragged her by her legs down the driveway, and even held a gun to her head.

According to Fox8 News, however, Hall Jr.’s victim has recanted her story against the second round pick. The statement cannot be released to the public though as it is considered evidence at this point in the process. WKYC adds that Hall Jr.’s fiance told the police she was “mistaken” when she stated that he put a gun to her head.

Hall Jr. is due back in court for this misdemeanor charge on September 10.

Victim in Mike Hall Jr. domestic violence case gives police new statement

We’ll keep you posted as this case continues.

The Cleveland Browns found themselves having to scramble last week when rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence.

This caused Hall Jr. to void all of the guarantees written into his rookie contract.

It was reported in a statement given by his fiance, the victim, that Hall Jr. had dragged her by her feet down the driveway, threw all of her clothes outside telling her to leave the house, and even pointed a gun at her head. Now, the victim has given the police a new statement following the arrest of Hall Jr.

The FOX 8 News team requested a copy of the statement but were told that it is evidence until Hall Jr. returns to court on September 10.

Despite his arrest on Tuesday, Hall Jr. returned to practice on Wednesday as the Browns took part in joint practices with the Vikings, and then played in their second preseason game on Saturday.

Browns rookie DT Mike Hall Jr. set to play just days after domestic violence arrest

The rookie is dressed for the game.

As the Cleveland Browns get set to take on the Minnesota Vikings in their second preseason game, rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. will play.

On the surface, this does not seem like necessary news to relay, but considering he was just arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence on Tuesday, seeing him in uniform is a bit jarring.

The Browns could be using the same punishment many teams deploy in the preseason for players who step out of line: play the whole exhibition game. This is what the Browns did with Antonio Callaway back in 2018 after he was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

An OVI, however, is much different than what was reported in Hall’s situation.

The Browns have yet to address Hall’s situation since they put out an obligatory statement when they first found out about the arrest. Head coach Kevin Stefanski will have questions to answer after this game, however. We’ll see how long Hall Jr. actually plays.

Mike Hall Jr.’s massive mistake costs him nearly $2.5 million in guaranteed money

Hall Jr. has already cost himself big time.

After he was arrested, booked, and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence, rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. has cost himself a massive opportunity on and off the field with the Cleveland Browns.

Signing his rookie contract, Hall Jr. had nearly $2.5 million in guaranteed money owed to him throughout the tenure of his first four years in the NFL. After his arrest, however, Hall Jr. has now voided all of those guarantees that the Browns would have been obligated to pay him.

This does not mean that Hall Jr. loses out on that money altogether, as he has a chance to still earn it if he plays out the full four years of his contract in Cleveland. However, what it does mean is that the Browns could cut him today with zero strings attached if they gather more information that motivated them to move on from the Ohio State product.

The Browns tend to give players a long leash, but Hall Jr.’s just got a lot shorter.

Rookie DT Mike Hall Jr. officially booked, charged with misdemeanor domestic violence

Not a great start to his rookie season…

The Cleveland Browns already have an issue with second round pick and defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. after he was arrested for a horrific domestic violence disturbance at his home on Monday night.

In the incident, Hall Jr. is reported to have hit his fiance with a baby bottle, thrown all of her belongings into the yard, dragged her down the driveway by her legs, and even pointed a gun at her head.

After turning himself into the police, Hall Jr. was officially booked and charged with misdemeanor domestic violence. He was released on $10,000 bond and has a court date set for September 10.

The Browns have since released a statement that they know the situation and are gathering as much information as possible. It would seem likely, however, that Hall Jr. does not get out of this with at least a hefty suspension. And if the Browns find that all of the reported information is true, they have the grounds to cut their second round pick as well.

WATCH: Browns rookie DT Mike Hall Jr. puts his freak athleticism on full display

Mike Hall Jr. is already catching eyes.

While Cleveland Browns second round pick Mike Hall Jr. has yet to sign his contract, that did not stop him from getting his work in during mandatory minicamp. And in individual sessions, Hall Jr. caught the eye of many by putting his freak athleticism on full display during an agility drill.

Watch Hall blaze through the drill, showing off his explosiveness and flexibility, with his veteran teammates looking on:

Hall has been well known for his athleticism, running a burning 4.789 40-yard dash at his pro day at 299 pounds (with 10-yard and 20-yard splits in the 92nd and 95th percentile respectively). He also leaped to a 33-inch vertical (93rd percentile) and a 9-foot-5 broad jump at his pro day as well.

No, it is not normal for a big man to move like this. Hall Jr. is a freak who is going to force himself onto the field on passing downs very early in his career.
