Notre Dame brought a four-game win streak into its last matchup against Syracuse, but that streak ended after a 2-1 loss. Matthew Roou scored the team’s only goal in the loss, with Mitch Ferguson registering an assist.

Michigan has three draws and a loss over the team’s last four matches as its strong start to the season has faltered. Last time out, the team played an exciting match against Ohio State, losing 6-3. The team trailed 2-0 at the half and 6-1 at the 80-minute mark, but Beto Soto and Jason Bucknor closed the gap with late goals. Oliver Martin added the team’s other goal. Dylan Davis, Joao Paulo Ramos and Murphy Parker each had assists in the game.

Crystal ball prediction for Notre Dame 2026 offensive lineman recruit

Gotta love how this is going.

Notre Dame is ready to shore up its offensive line for its 2026 recruiting class. With quarterback [autotag]Noah Grubbs[/autotag] and receiver [autotag]Dylan Faison[/autotag] already having committed, the Irish are ready for someone in that recruiting class to protect those guys.

Enter Sullivan Garvin, a three-star offensive lineman recruit from Allegan, Michigan. The Irish presented him an offer during his visit to campus, which took place on the day of the win over Louisville.

Despite Garvin also having offers from Indiana, Minnesota and several Mid-American Conference programs, [autotag]Joe Rudolph[/autotag] clearly presented a convincing case to him because Tom Loy and Allen Trieu of 247Sports both have made crystal ball predictions for the Irish.

If you need further evidence of the Irish trending in the right direction here, Gavin’s mother posted a video of her son walking out of Notre Dame Stadium indicating that the offer was his. You don’t see these types of videos often, and it’s cool to see:

We’ll see how the rest of Garvin’s college visits work out, but this looks very promising.

Notre Dame offers 2026 three-star Michigan offensive lineman recruit

Would you like him on the Irish?

Just because Notre Dame had a football game Saturday didn’t mean it wasn’t working to attract future talent. In this case, it was Sullivan Garvin, a three-star offensive lineman recruit from Allegan, Michigan, which is about a 90-minute drive from South Bend.

Garvin took in the Irish’s win over Louisville, then announced on social media that the Irish had extended him an offer. It was easily the most prominent offer Garvin has received thus far as the other ones he currently has on the table are from Indiana, Minnesota and six Mid-American Conference programs.

The Irish’s only two commits for 2026 so far are quarterback [autotag]Noah Grubbs[/autotag] and receiver [autotag]Dylan Faison[/autotag], so Garvin accepting this offer would be consistent with that class to this point. If he became a star for the Irish, he would be the latest in a line of Irish offensive linemen who have done so. He seems to hope that happens, too:

Best of luck to Garvin as he ponders his college decision.

Four-star 2025 New Hampshire forward commits to Notre Dame

Guess who now has the top 2025 recruiting class?

Easily the best recruiting week for Notre Dame since [autotag]Micah Shrewsberry[/autotag] took over wrapped up appropriately. The Irish received three commits for their 2025 class every other day, and the future of the program seems set as a result.

[autotag]Ryder Frost[/autotag], a four-star forward recruit and the third-ranked 2025 recruit from New Hampshire according to 247Sports, has committed to the Irish, joining [autotag]Jalen Haralson[/autotag] and [autotag]Brady Koehler[/autotag] from earlier in the week. Just missing out on Frost were other finalists Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.

The Irish now rank first overall in 247Sports 2025 recruiting class rankings with one five-star commit, who also happens to be the highest-rated recruit since the internet started tracking such ratings, and two four-star commits. Iowa State, which ranks second, is over two-and-a-half points behind. If that doesn’t give you cause for excitement, nothing will.

Chances are you missed Frost’s announcement on the 247Sports YouTube channel so here it is:

Shrewsberry has convinced some serious talent to commit to South Bend, and it won’t be long before that talent is around to try and return the Irish to glory that mostly has been elusive for some time.

Lincoln Riley comments on Michigan QB Alex Orji before USC clash

Lincoln Riley emphasized the point that USC has to be ready for any possible personnel grouping or configuration from the Michigan offense.

No. 18 Michigan is making a change at quarterback ahead of its Big Ten opener against No. 11 USC. UM is switching to junior Alex Orji for its game on Saturday. Lincoln Riley talked about Orji as relayed by Wolverines Wire:

I mean, I understand it. I mean, I can understand where they’re coming from on it. There’s two trains of thought. They both have relevance. But I’m not going to sit here and guess why they did, or why they made that choice. That’s their decision. We got to be ready for everybody that they have. (It’s a) very multiple offense, very good on offensive line, backs are good, tight ends elite. A lot of really gifted coaches over there. So, big challenge, regardless of who’s under center.

We got a couple of guys that we’re trying to use a little bit (on defense), but he’s a really good athlete. I told people last night I was familiar with him. We recruited him a little bit coming out of high school. Remember him, have a lot of respect for him as a player and an athlete, so we’ll do the best we can with the bodies that we have.

Across 12 total appearances for the Wolverines, Orji has run the ball 31 times for 181 yards and three touchdowns. The Texas native has recorded seven pass attempts, completing four of them for 20 yards and two scores.

Michigan has won 22 consecutive Big Ten regular season games dating back to the 2021 season. The Trojans struggled on defense the past two years under coach Lincoln Riley, but USC is allowing just 10 points per game in 2024 with its retooled defensive coaching staff.

“I’m excited to see him get in there and chop it up a bit,” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore said about Orji, per Tony Garcia of the Detroit Free Press. “We’ll move on from there.”

Notre Dame men’s golf wins Canadian Collegiate Invitational

Congrats, Irish!

The Notre Dame men’s golf team had to make up 11 shots on the last day of the Canadian Collegiate Invitational to win it. With skill and a bit of luck (no pun intended), the Irish were able to make the shots necessary to do just that. They shot 17-under-par over the three rounds for a final score of 847, five shots better than Missouri and Michigan.

The Irish, who were tied with the Wolverines in second to start the final round, shot 6-under during the final round at Oviinbyrd Golf Club in MacTier, Ontario, benefiting from the Tigers shooting a 10-over. The Irish tied with fifth-place Michigan State for the best score of the round.

All four Irish golfers included in the scoring shot under par in the last round. [autotag]Nate Stevens[/autotag] and [autotag]Rocco Salvitti[/autotag] shot 2-under, and [autotag]Jacob Modleski[/autotag] and [autotag]Mike Qiu[/autotag] were 1-under. Stevens had the best overall score for the Irish, tying for eighth with a 6-under 210.

The Irish’s next tournament will be the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted by Northwestern on Sept. 29 and 30.

2026 four-star Pennsylvania safety recruit to visit Notre Dame

Can the Irish get him?

In June, Tom Loy of 247Sports predicted that Notre Dame would land Joey O’Brien, a 2026 four-star safety recruit. 247Sports considers O’Brien the best player in Pennsylvania among the 2026 recruiting class. On3 also considers the Irish the odds-on favorite to be O’Brien’s choice.

Of course, the Irish aren’t the only program aiming for O’Brien’s services. Penn State and Michigan also are said to have good chances at getting him. Altogether, O’Brien has received offers from 19 programs. He can pick pretty much anybody he wants because he’s that good.

The Irish now will be able to make an on-campus pitch to O’Brien because he’s set to visit Notre Dame this coming weekend for the game against Miami (Ohio). Hopefully, they can put together a convincing presentation because their current 2026 recruiting class of [autotag]Noah Grubbs[/autotag] and [autotag]Dylan Faison[/autotag] hasn’t changed since Loy made his prediction. It would be nice to see another addition to that class:

Best of luck to the Irish in their pursuit of O’Brien, especially recruiters [autotag]Mike Mickens[/autotag] and [autotag]Marty Biagi[/autotag], the two defensive backs coaches.

2025 NFL mock draft: Saints add even more firepower at tight end

The New Orleans Saints added even more firepower to their offense in this 2025 mock draft. Michigan tight end Colston Loveland could be a major upgrade:

The New Orleans Saints have gotten off to a hot start in 2024, but we added even more firepower to their offense in this 2025 mock draft.

We used the PFF mock draft simulator and the 2025 draft order determined according to Tankathon (which had the Saints picking at No. 28 overall). And given the options available when the computer put us on the clock, we decided that Michigan tight end Colston Loveland could be a major upgrade.

A tight end could be in the cards for next year’s draft. The Saints would have seriously considered taking former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers had he made it to their pick this year, but they have to be pleased with what Taliese Fuaga has done for them instead.

Let’s take stock of the position. Foster Moreau is a good player but he has some limitations as a receiver. Juwan Johnson has been in and out of the doghouse with the coaching staff and he missed the offseason with a foot injury, which led to a reduced role in Klint Kubiak’s offense. He’s also going to be a free agent in 2025. Dallin Holker is an unproven rookie, and Taysom Hill splits too much time elsewhere to really be considered a tight end.

Which brings us to Loveland. He’s one of the youngest players eligible for the Class of 2025 (he’ll turn 21 a few weeks before the draft) but he’s already played a lot of snaps at a blueblood program. Loveland has run almost as many routes (527) as blocks he’s thrown (546) for the Wolverines, but he’s regarded as a high-upside receiver first and foremost. It’s important for the Saints’ tight ends to block well but so long as he’s willing to improve, they can work with him. It’s worth mentioning that Loveland is currently dealing with a minor injury but it isn’t believed to be a long-term concern.

And there aren’t many guys his size who move as smoothly as he does. Loveland is listed at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds but he’s already caught 80 passes for 1,071 yards in a run-first offense. He’s got nimble feet (averaging a solid 5.4 yards after the catch per reception) and good play strength on contested catches (having won 9 of his 17 targets, per Pro Football Focus charting). He’s the consensus TE1 in this upcoming draft class for good reasons.

So the Saints could have a need at tight end, and he could be available. Derek Carr is playing well enough to keep them from looking at early-round quarterbacks next year. The offensive line is always possibility, especially at left guard, and there’s also a chance they could draft a running back given Alvin Kamara’s contract situation; Boise State stud Ashton Jeanty was someone on our radar in this mock draft but he didn’t make it to the end of Round 1.

We also can’t rule out defensive end (if Chase Young doesn’t re-sign) or cornerback (should Paulson Adebo or Marshon Lattimore leave the team). Safety is a possibility, too, considering Tyrann Mathieu’s age. There’s a lot to like about the Saints’ 2-0 start. That doesn’t mean they can’t improve. They’ll have work to do in the offseason like everyone else and it’s worth taking time to explore draft scenarios like this to get an idea of how they could get better in the spring.

2026 Notre Dame interior offensive lineman target to visit campus

Hope the Irish can impress him enough.

Notre Dame has been a hotbed for offensive line talent in recent years. While there are concerns about that unit in 2024, the future always seems bright these days. Hopefully for the Irish, that future will include 2026 recruit Ben Nichols.

Nichols, Michigan’s No. 3 recruit in the 2026 class according to 247Sports, has received offers from 19 Football Bowl Subdivision programs. The Irish made their offer on St. Patrick’s Day this year. Now, he’ll be making a visit to campus when the Irish open their home schedule against Northern Illinois.

Nichols took to social media and expressed excitement about his upcoming trip to South Bend:

The Irish have some stiff competition to try and win Nichols’ services. Alabama made the most recent offer in late August. Others aiming for him include Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Illinois.

Good luck to the Irish in landing Nichols. They just might need it.

ESPN highlight of Notre Dame 2008 win over Michigan

Were you at this game?

Notre Dame’s rivalry with Michigan needs to happen with regularity again. It can involve just as much intensity as the Irish’s annual clash with USC. When you beat a rival convincingly, it can be just as fulfilling as squeaking by in a thriller.

Take, for example, the Irish’s 35-17 win over the Wolverines in 2008. Everything went he Irish’s way on the day [autotag]Lou Holtz[/autotag]’s statue at Notre Dame Stadium was dedicated. They benefited from six Wolverines turnovers and jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Oh, and [autotag]Charlie Weis[/autotag] injured his knee on a play he was caught up in.

Here are the highlights as presented on ESPN later on:

You can see [autotag]Jimmy Clausen[/autotag]’s stats on the graphic at the end. You can’t see that [autotag]Golden Tate[/autotag] caught four passes for 127 yards and one touchdown. You also can’t see that [autotag]Robert Hughes[/autotag] ran for 79 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries.

Why do we have to wait until 2033 for these teams to play each other again?
