Michigan State at Ohio State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Michigan State at Ohio State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Michigan State Spartans (15-9, 7-5 Big Ten) visit the Ohio State Buckeyes (11-13, 3-10) on Sunday. Tip from Value City Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Michigan State vs. Ohio State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Michigan State took down Maryland 63-58 on Tuesday, covering as 4.5-point home favorites. The win broke a 2-game losing streak and a 4-game against the spread (ATS) losing record. The Spartans are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 and 12-12 ATS this season.

Ohio State fell 69-63 to Northwestern on Thursday, failing to cover as 5.5-point home favorites. It has had a miserable stretch, going 1-9 both outright and ATS in its last 10 games. The Buckeyes are just 8-16 ATS this season.

Michigan State at Ohio State picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan State 68, Ohio State 65

Moneyline

BET MICHIGAN STATE +130.

Ohio State has been in a slump recently both outright and against the spread going just 1-9 in its last 10 games. At just 3-10 outright in Big Ten play, I suggest fading the Buckeyes until they can prove they can compete against their conference opponents.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

BET MICHIGAN STATE +3.5 (-115).

The moneyline is a better value, but the insurance isn’t too costly. The Buckeyes are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss, 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning outright record, and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 Sunday games.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 137.5 (-110).

Michigan State’s offense ranks just 262nd in the country averaging just 68.1 points per game. Meanwhile, their defense ranks top 50 in both opponent field goal percentage (46th) and opponent 3-point percentage (15th).

As it stands, 137.5 is near the top of closing lines in the Spartans’ last 10 games, a team who has an O/U record of 11-13 and has only hit the Over in 4 of its last 10 games.

The O/U in the Buckeyes’ last 9 games is 3-6 with the Under being 3-1 in their last 4 home games.

Michigan State at Ohio State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Michigan State at Ohio State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 25 Michigan State Spartans (19-10, 10-8 Big Ten) and No. 23 Ohio State Buckeyes (18-9, 11-7) tangle Thursday in a Top-25 conference showdown in Columbus, Ohio. The battle at Schottenstein Center is set for a 7 p.m. ET start time. Below, we look at the Michigan State vs. Ohio State odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Michigan State fell at Michigan 87-70 Tuesday and has stumbled its way to a 2-6 mark since Feb. 5. MSU has struggled defensively over that stretch, allowing 74.3 points per game.

The Spartans and Buckeyes are meeting for the first time since Feb. 25, 2021. Michigan State won that matchup 71-67 at home and is 5-1 over its last six versus OSU.

The Buckeyes are coming off a sluggish 78-70 home loss as 14.5-point favorites to Nebraska Tuesday. Ohio State struggled from the floor for a second straight game – both were losses for OSU, which had won four of its previous five games. The Buckeyes rank as one of the better 3-point-shooting teams in the Big Ten at 36.9%, but they have shot just 27.8% from beyond the arc over their last three home games.

Michigan State at Ohio State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 71, Michigan State 64

Money line

PASS.

Ohio State (-280) would cost nearly three times your potential return. That’s not wise sports betting.

Against the spread

On the road, MSU has lost five in a row ATS.

OSU is 4-1 ATS over its last five against winning teams.

Look for a bounce-back shooting performance for the Buckeyes. Their free-throw frequency has been on the rise, and they figure to benefit in the turnover exchange.

BET OHIO STATE -5.5 (-120).

Over/Under

The OSU defense has logged solid defensive performances after losses. In games following a loss, the Buckeyes are 4-1 straight up in their last five.

Ohio State has played at markedly slower pace numbers of late. MSU has scored more than 65 points just once in its last six efforts on the road.

BACK THE UNDER 138.5 (-110).

Michigan State at Ohio State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Michigan State Spartans at Ohio State Buckeyes odds and lines, with college football picks, predictions and bets.

The No. 8 Michigan State Spartans (9-1, 6-1 Big Ten) and No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes (9-1, 7-0) meet at noon ET on Saturday at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Below, we look at the Michigan State vs. Ohio State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Michigan State bounced back from its Nov. 6 Purdue loss to defeat Maryland 40-21 Saturday. RB Kenneth Walker III logged 30 rushes for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns, as the Spartans ran their home record to 5-0.

The nation’s 27th-best rushing team (199.0 yards per game) recorded 194 yards on the ground. The Spartans have compiled 180 or more yards in three straight games and in eight games overall this season.

The Buckeyes played Purdue last Saturday and got their offense back on track after a couple of subpar weeks. An Ohio State offense ranked first in the nation (550.3 total yards per game) cranked out a season-high 624 total yards in the contest. QB CJ Stroud edged further into Heisman Trophy consideration by going 31-for-38 (81.6%) for 361 yards and 5 TD passes.

Michigan State at Ohio State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 38, Michigan State 24

Money line

PASS on the juice-filled money-line prices.

Against the spread

Attention on the Spartans ranking 130th in pass defense (yardage) and the Buckeyes tending to be a public-backed team have this number perhaps a field goal out of whack.

Michigan State ranks 24th in avoiding explosive pass plays and 34th in passing yards per attempt. Ohio State is effective on offense but not to a run-away-and-hide-in-a-boat-race degree.

That did happen last season when OSU defeated the Spartans, 52-12, in East Lansing, an MSU team that was a turnover minus-2 that day — and held back by 101 yards in penalties — has been made over with quality coaching and the transfer portal.

A revenge game won’t get Sparty over the top, but it could well make for a game inside three scores. Or closer. BACK MICHIGAN STATE +19.5 (-112).

Over/Under

Per Covers.com, the Under is 5-0 in the last five MSU-OSU games at the Shoe. And it is 5-1 in the last six series games.

With enough respect for MSU staying within 17, and acknowledging both teams’ solid ability to avoid big plays (OSU on the ground especially) — and on what looks to be a mid-40s, breezy day in the Buckeye State — the UNDER 68.5 (-107) is worth a look as a partial-unit play.

Michigan State at Ohio State: Three things to know

  1. Michigan State is on a two-game skid, most recently suffering a 67-37 blowout loss at Rutgers Thursday as a 4-point underdog. It was the Spartans’ first game since a Jan. 8 home loss (55-54) on a late 3-pointer by Purdue. In between, MSU had three games postponed due to COVID-19 issues within its program. Aaron Henry and Joey Hauser, both junior forwards, are the only two Spartans scoring in double figures at 13.4 and 11.3 points per game, respectively.
  2. Ohio State enters on a two-game winning streak and has won five of its last six. The Buckeyes are coming off a tight 83-79 victory in which F E.J. Liddell scored a team-high 22 points, including the tiebreaking free throws with 57 seconds to go. The sophomore forward, who was a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line vs. PSU, leads Ohio State in scoring (15.0 PPG) and rebounds (6.8 RPG).
  3. The Spartans have won the last four vs. the Buckeyes, including an 80-69 home victory March 8, 2020, in the lone head-to-head matchup last season. The victory earned Michigan State, which was a 6.5-point favorite, its third consecutive Big Ten regular-season title, which it shared with Maryland and Wisconsin.

Michigan State at Ohio State: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Ohio State 74, Michigan State 65

Money line (ML)

Ohio State (-300) will snap its four-game skid to Michigan State, but I can’t suggest betting three times the potential return. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

OHIO STATE -6.5 (-115) is the play. This is possibly head coach Tom Izzo’s worst team at Michigan State since he took the helm in 1995 when the Spartans finished 16-16. MSU is reeling and OSU will take advantage.

ATS: Michigan State 3-10 | Ohio State 9-7-1

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 143.5 (-110) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager. The Spartans are struggling to score and their offense ranks last in the conference at 62.9 PPG. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes defense ranks fourth in the conference, yielding 69.5 PPG in Big Ten games.

O/U records: Michigan State 6-7 | Ohio State 10-7
