Wisconsin vs. Michigan State: Stream, injury report, broadcast info for Saturday

How to watch the Wisconsin Badgers on the road against the Michigan State Spartans:

The Wisconsin Badgers play the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday afternoon, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Badgers will hope to take down the Spartans on the road this weekend, after dominating the Northwestern Wildcats in a 42-7 victory last week. They were finally able to get their offense moving last week, and quarterback Graham Mertz had one of the best games of his career with five passing touchdowns. Wisconsin may look again to their passing game this week since the Spartans’ secondary has been abysmal in their last four games.

On the opposite side of the ball, the Badgers’ secondary led by Kamoi Latu will have opportunities to add their to their Big Ten-leading interception count. Michigan State quarterback Payton has had turnover issues as out late and has thrown seven interceptions this season as a whole.

Hopefully, the Wisconsin Badgers can put together back-to-back wins in what should be an exciting matchup to watch.

Series History: Wisconsin vs. Michigan State

The series history between the Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State Spartans:

The Wisconsin Badgers will face off on the road this weekend against the Michigan State Spartans for the 55th time in the 109-year-old rivalry. The first time these teams played was back in 1913 when Wisconsin lost to Michigan State 12-7 at Camp Randall Stadium.

However, the last time they played in 2019, the Badgers dominated the Spartans in a 38-0 victory at home. Former Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor led the team with 85 rushing yards and two touchdowns. It should be noted, that they have split the last 10 matchups evenly.

It should be an interesting matchup to watch this year, as both teams have faced a lot of adversity and have not necessarily lived up to high expectations.

Western Michigan at Michigan State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Western Michigan at Michigan State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Michigan State Spartans will host the Western Michigan Broncos to begin the 2022 season on Friday. Kickoff at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Mich., is 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Michigan State vs. Western Michigan odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Spartans concluded last season with an 11-2 record after going 2-5 in Mel Tucker’s 1st year as coach in 2020. While Michigan State lost RB Kenneth Walker III, the offense is returning Payton Thorne at quarterback  following a positive campaign in 2021.

Broncos coach Tim Lester enters his 6th year at Western Michigan. The Broncos went 8-5 in 2021, the most wins Lester has won during his tenure with the program (32-25 overall). Jack Salopek is expected to make his 1st collegiate start at quarterback Friday vs. the Spartans.

Michigan State is No. 14 in the AFCA Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Western Michigan at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan State 41, Western Michigan 17

Money line

Given the drastic odds in favor of the Spartans, it’s good to PASS on the money line in this contest. Putting $1,000 on Michigan State would net only $55.56, making it an uninspiring wager. The Spartans should be able to come away with a victory over the Broncos to begin the season, but betting on them to win at their current odds isn’t advisable.

Against the spread

Even with the massive spread, MICHIGAN STATE -21.5 (-112) is worth taking. The Spartans are ranked for a reason and Tucker has his team in a position to carry on from where the program left off in 2021. Also, Salopek is an inexperienced QB making a road start, so I lean toward a lopsided win in favor of Michigan State.

Also, Western Michigan is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Friday games and they are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Big Ten matchups. Meanwhile, Michigan State is 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and they’re 5-0-2 ATS in their last 5 home games.

Over/Under

The OVER 54.5 (-108) appears to be a solid play in this contest, especially with Michigan State returning a majority of their offensive starters from a season ago. Western Michigan’s defense was a weakness in 2021 as they allowed 30.6 points per game.

Both of these teams averaged 31-plus points per game scoring last season and the defense of the Spartans is expected to be much improved in 2022. Michigan State could score most of the points in the matchup while Western Michigan could score enough points in garbage time to reach the over.

The Badgers did not finish in the AFCA Coaches Poll at the end of the 2021 season but began last year at No. 15. There are several other Big Ten teams that made the 2022 preseason poll including Michigan State, Michigan and Ohio State.

2 nonconference matchups 247Sports is dreaming of for Oklahoma, plus 2 more we’d love to see

Taking a look at who 247Sports is dreaming of as nonconference opponents for the Oklahoma Sooners and two more that we’d like to see.

When the Oklahoma Sooners played Ohio State in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, everyone knew the challenge OU faced, but it was an awesome opportunity to prove it was a legit contender in an early season test.

Conference play makes up the bulk of the schedule, and those are the teams we talk most about. However, nonconference play and the great matchups it provides is one of the best things about college football.

Alabama will travel to Austin and face the Texas Longhorns for one of the most highly anticipated games in 2022. If the Sooners are still in the Big 12 in 2023, they’ll face the 2021 national champion Georgia Bulldogs in nonconference play. Those are going to be incredibly fun matchups.

The Sooners current home-and-home series with the [autotag]Nebraska Cornhuskers[/autotag] created a lot of buzz and excitement when the former Big 8 and Big 12 rival returned to Norman for the first time since 2008. And the tightly-contested defensive battle lived up to the hype. As OU gets set for the return trip to Lincoln, that game will grab national attention as well.

As we look to the future, 247Sports’ Nick Kosko shared nonconference matchups that he’s dreaming of and Oklahoma makes the list twice. Also below are two nonconference matchups that we’d love to see.

Michigan State Football Schedule What To Know: Who do the Spartans miss from the Big Ten West Division?

It would’ve been nice to not have to deal with Wisconsin or Minnesota, but both of them are home games and dealing with Illinois isn’t anything to get into a twist over.

Not getting Northwestern from the West hurts, but missing Iowa and – after last year – Purdue isn’t bad. Not getting Nebraska this Time around might be a bit of a break.

In the East, there’s almost nothing positive outside of getting Ohio State in East Lansing. Playing Rutgers and Indiana home – in theory – should mean

Michigan State Football Schedule What To Know: Just how good is Washington?

Last year, the Michigan showdown against Washington was supposed to be one of the best non-conference games of the season. As it turned out, Washington wasn’t any good and the Wolverine win wasn’t that big a deal.

This time around, it’s Michigan State playing the Huskies, and it’s on the road against a new team with a new coaching staff and a new style.

With Western Michigan and Akron to start the year, and with winnable games against Minnesota and at Maryland, the Spartans can crank up a big early record if they come out of Seattle with a win.

Michigan State Football Schedule What To Know: What does it all really mean?

It’s not all that bad a slate considering the key early games at home. Beating Ohio State and Wisconsin isn’t a given, but those are the make-or-break games. Lose both of those, and with three road games in the final five, and with two of those against Michigan and Penn State, there might be work to do.

Whatever – Michigan State didn’t buckle last year, and there’s no hiding ever from big games against the Big Ten East. The first part of the slate is just good enough to get going and build a base on the way to what should be a strong season.
