Michigan State at Minnesota picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan State 69, Minnesota 61

Moneyline

PASS.

There is minimal value on the Spartans (-210) to win Wednesday.

Against the spread

BET MICHIGAN STATE -4.5 (-120).

Michigan State is looking to make a push into the top-20 rankings after an impressive showing at the Maui Invitational capped off by an upset win over North Carolina. It has covered in 2 of its last 3 games, while 3 of its last 4 wins have come by 8 or more points.

Minnesota has covered the spread in just 1 of its 9 games this season with a 1-6-2 ATS record. It is 0-1-1 in its 2 games as an underdog this season and has a difficult task in taking down the Spartans Wednesday.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 131.5 (-115).

The Gophers have hit the Under in 7 of their 9 games this season while scoring 68 or fewer points in 7 of their last 8.

Michigan State has hit the Under in 3 of its last 4 games. It has scored 72 or fewer points in 2 of its last 3 games and held opponents to 72 or fewer in 3 of its last 5.

However, do not wager too much on this line, as 131.5 is a pretty low total, even for teams that traditionally do not score a lot.

Michigan State vs. North Carolina odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Michigan State vs. North Carolina odds and lines, with NCAA basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Michigan State Spartans (5-2) and North Carolina Tar Heels (4-2) tangle in a Wednesday contest to decide 3rd place in the Maui Invitational Wednesday. Tip-off from the Lahaina Civic Center in Lahaina, Hawaii, is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Michigan State vs. North Carolina odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

MSU and UNC are both 1-1 in the tournament. Both logged Monday victories and Wednesday losses.

Michigan State defeated Colorado 72-56 Monday and then dropped a 71-63 affair against 2½-point underdog Memphis Tuesday. The Spartans were a minus-5 in turnover margin Tuesday. That loss snapped a 3-game win streak.

North Carolina, which is No. 13 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, defeated Dayton 92-90 Monday and then suffered an 85-72 loss to No. 3 Auburn Tuesday. High-scoring UNC (the Tar Heels’ 89.5 points per game rank 11th in the nation) trailed throughout Tuesday’s loss in which it was tabbed as a 4-point underdog.

Michigan State vs. North Carolina picks and predictions

Prediction

North Carolina 78, Michigan State 75

Moneyline

MSU and UNC met last season in the NCAA Tournament in a March 23 game won by the Tar Heels 85-69. That was the first meeting between the 2 basketball bluebloods in 7 years.

The Spartans led that game early and were down by just 4 heading into the final 10 minutes of play. They are a solid lean in this one, but a better play here at +175 or better.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread

Michigan State handled its business in easily covering a 7½-point spread in a Monday triumph over Colorado (72-56). And MSU coasted to the finish line in that one despite an off 2-for-21 performance from distance. The Spartans have been mostly solid and in their toughest games despite some shooting numbers that show some regression due.

North Carolina has at times been lackluster on the boards, and the rim-and-3-loving Tar Heels will find themselves up against an MSU five that does well to forces foes into lesser looks.

UNC had long stretches in its games against Kansas (Nov. 8) and Dayton that indicate a win by 5 or more points may not be too likely in this spot.

BACK THE SPARTANS +4.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Under has cashed in 3 straight MSU November games when the Spartans are getting points.

Both teams have been quite good in forcing suboptimum midrange jump shots, and the likely game flow of this matchup is not rife with a lot of second-chance and transition points.

TAKE THE UNDER 157.5 (-105).

The Purdue Boilermakers (1-9, 0-7 Big Ten) visit the Michigan State Spartans (4-6, 2-5) on Friday. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Purdue vs. Michigan State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Purdue at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan State 24, Purdue 9

Moneyline

PASS.

There is no value on Michigan State (-550) to beat a struggling Purdue (+400) team that has lost 9 straight games, 7 of them by double digits.

Against the spread

BET MICHIGAN STATE -13.5 (-110).

Purdue has failed to cover in 8 of the 9 losses, including each of its last 5 games as a double-digit underdog. It has scored 10 points or less in 5 of its last 7 games and has lost 5 games by 35-plus points. Michigan State has scored 32 or more points in 2 of its last 4 home games.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 48.5 (-110).

Purdue’s offense has struggled this season, scoring no points twice in its last 4 games and 10 or fewer points in 6 of the last 9 games. Michigan State has also struggled offensively, scoring 17 or fewer points in each of its last 3 weeks and in 5 of its last 6 games. Both teams struggle on defense as well, but neither will be able to produce enough offense for the Over to hit.

Kansas vs. Michigan State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Kansas vs. Michigan State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks (2-0) battle the Michigan State Spartans (2-0) in the State Farm Champions Classic Tuesday. Tip-off from State Farm Arena in Atlanta is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Kansas vs. Michigan State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Kansas has opened the season with back-to-back wins after taking down North Carolina 92-89 Friday, failing to cover as an 8-point home favorite. G Zeke Mayo led all scorers with 21 points while C Hunter Dickinson added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Michigan State is also undefeated after taking down Niagara 96-60 Thursday as a 30-point home favorite. F Jaxon Kohler had 20 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs.

Kansas vs. Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Kansas 83, Michigan State 71

Moneyline

PASS.

There is minimal value on Kansas (-225) to win Tuesday.

Against the spread

BET KANSAS -5.5 (-110).

Kansas is coming off a narrow win against UNC Friday in which it displayed its ability to compete with top teams. It has a high-scoring offense, putting up 87 or more points in both of its games, and has the experience of Dickinson and company which provides a distinct advantage over the Spartans.

Michigan State has not faced a true competitor this season and will not be able to keep pace with the Jayhawks.

Over/Under

BET OVER 150.5 (-110).

The Jayhawks have scored 87 or more points in both games this season and shown an early tendency to push the pace of their games. They allowed 89 points against UNC Friday.

Michigan State is coming off a 96-point performance, and while it should not be expected to repeat that, it will be able to add enough to the total to hit the Over.

Indiana at Michigan State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Indiana at Michigan State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers (8-0, 5-0 Big Ten) and the Michigan State Spartans (4-4, 2-3) meet Saturday at Spartan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (Peacock). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Indiana vs. Michigan State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Hoosiers’ improbable run continued as Indiana improved to an undefeated record with a 31-17 victory over the Washington Huskies Oct. 26. They covered the spread as a 5-point home favorite, while the total stayed under 54 points. A key pick-6 from DB D’Angelo Ponds in the first quarter set the tone for the afternoon. QB Tayven Jackson hit WR Omar Cooper Jr. for a 42-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter, and RB Justice Ellison powered through with 29 carries for 123 yards and a touchdown, sealing the win.

The Spartans dropped their 4th game in the last 5, losing to in-state rival Michigan 24-17 Oct. 26. They failed to cover as 3-point road underdogs, and the game went Over (38). QB Aidan Chiles finished with 189 passing yards and a touchdown, while RB Nate Carter added 118 rushing yards and a score, highlighting their offensive strengths despite the tough loss.

Indiana at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Indiana 34, Michigan State 24

Moneyline

PASS.

Indiana (-350) will win this game, but I’m not going to bet $350 to win $100 in return. I’ll take my bet to the spread.

Against the spread

BET INDIANA -7.5 (-115).

Indiana heads into this matchup against Michigan State with plenty of momentum. The Hoosiers have been scoring consistently, covering the spread in 7 consecutive games, and enter with a solid 7-1 ATS record. Indiana’s balanced offense has been effective at sustaining drives, boasting a 51.28% third-down conversion rate and maintaining possession for over 31 minutes per game.

Michigan State, on the other hand, has seen its numbers decline against tougher opponents. Led by Oregon State transfer QB Chiles, who has thrown more interceptions (9) than touchdowns (7), the Spartans have struggled, especially in high-stakes moments. Michigan State ranks 91st in total offense, averaging 365 yards and 21 points per game, but it has allowed an average of 28 points over their last 4 matchups.

Despite the 7.5-point spread, Indiana’s track record and consistent scoring make it a strong pick to cover on the road once again.

Over/Under

BET OVER 53.5 (-110).

The 52.5-point total here slightly exceeds Indiana’s season game average of 49.5, reflecting its potent offense, which ranks 2nd nationally at 46.5 points per game. Michigan State’s defense has struggled, allowing 28 points per game over its last 4 matchups against tougher Big Ten competition. While the Spartans generally keep scores lower (3-5 O/U), Indiana has been consistently high-scoring, clearing 40 points in both road games, including a 56-point showing against Nebraska.

Indiana being 6-2 to the Over suggests a high-scoring game here, making it likely that this matchup will exceed the usual Big Ten grind. Back the Over in what could be a spirited offensive battle.

Michigan State at Michigan odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Michigan State at Michigan odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Michigan State Spartans (4-3, 2-2 Big Ten) make the short trip to Ann Arbor to square off against the Michigan Wolverines (4-3, 2-2) in Saturday Big Ten action. Kickoff at Michigan Stadium will be at 7:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around Michigan State vs. Michigan odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Spartans snapped a 3-game skid with a surprising win in their last game. Last Saturday, 6.5-point-underdog Michigan State defeated Iowa 30-22. K Jonathan Kim banged home a program-record 6 field goals in a contest the Spartans controlled from tip to tail.

The Wolverines, ranked No. 22 in the US LBM Coaches Poll, logged a flat 21-7 loss last Saturday. Michigan allowed just 267 total yards but was undone by a minus-3 in turnovers. UM yielded 4 scoring drives against UI; all 4 were under 55 yards.

Michigan State at Michigan picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan 28, Michigan State 16

Moneyline

Better leverage can be found against the number. PASS.

Against the spread

UM has covered the spread each of the last 2 years and is 4-2 ATS against MSU since 2018.

The Michigan offense has certainly been a near-weekly misfire this season. The Wolverines have a revolving door at quarterback and have been held under 325 total yards in all-but-1 game this so far. But for a team with a talent edge in this match-up, have expectations bottomed out with room for profit coming back up?

The Michigan defense can squelch lesser foes. MSU can be quite loose with the football, and the game flow in this one has the potential for a lot of field-position tilt toward the Wolverines.

The Spartans will likely find tough sledding in early downs, and that puts the Michigan defense in advantageous late-down situations where it has thrived.

Look for slight improvement in the Wolverines passing game (almost any level of success would be something to build on) and for some flipped-field effect to loom as a 2-score separator. A significant red-zone edge for UM confirms that sort of lean.

TAKE MICHIGAN -4 (-110).

Over/Under

The effect of turnovers and short-field scores figure to outweigh low expectations of what these rivals can crank out on the Michigan Stadium scoreboard.

Again, FanDuel Sportsbook offers a better tag: BACK THE OVER 38.5 (-114).

The Michigan State Spartans (3-2, 1-1 Big Ten) visit the 6th-ranked Oregon Ducks (4-0, 1-0) Friday in the 1st Big Ten game at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. Kickoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Michigan State vs. Oregon odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Spartans are in the middle of a tough 3-game stretch. Michigan State lost 23-19 at Boston College Sept. 21, although it covered as a 5-point underdog, while it lost 38-7 as 23.5-point home dogs against 3rd-ranked Ohio State last weekend. The Under has cashed in 3 in a row for MSU, and 4 of 5 games this season.

Michigan State has posted a 1-1 straight up (SU) mark in 2 road games, but it is 2-0 against the spread (ATS), while splitting the Over-Under.

While the Ducks are undefeated, they’re just 1-3 ATS. At home, they’re 2-0 ATS, averaging 30.5 points per game (PPG), allowing 24.0 PPG with a 1-1 O/U record. The Ducks have scored 34 or more points in their last 3 games, while allowing 14 or fewer points in 3 of their 4 outings.

The last time these teams met was in the Redbox Bowl in Santa Clara, Dec. 31, 2018, with Oregon edging Michigan State 7-6. The Vegas line was Pick with the Under (45.5) easily cashing … but that was 6 years ago.

Michigan State at Oregon picks and predictions

Prediction

Oregon 45, Michigan State 17

Moneyline

Oregon (-3000) will cost 30 times the potential return. That’s obviously way too risky for not nearly enough reward. In other words, you must risk $100 for every $3.33 of profit. There is never a reason to justify betting such a heavy, heavy underdog.

PASS.

Against the spread

OREGON -23.5 (-110) is worth a look laying the points at home. Michigan State is experiencing a very difficult stretch, facing a top-10 team for a 2nd consecutive game in a 6-day span.

We saw Ohio State drop Sparty 38-7 last Saturday in East Lansing, and it’s hard to envision Michigan State faring much better against Oregon’s high-octane offense.

The Ducks have scored 34 or more points in all 3 of their games against FBS this season, while the Spartans have scored 19 or fewer points in 3 of their 4 games vs. FBS foes. QB Aidan Chiles has a bright future for Michigan State, but he and the offense is a bit limited at the moment.

Over/Under

OVER 52.5 (-110) might be the best play on the board as Oregon has the potential to take care of most of this number on its own.

The Over has cashed in 2 of the past 3 games for the Ducks, and their lone home game vs. an FBS opponent this season finished with 71 combined points — with Oregon beating Boise State 37-34 Sept. 7.

BET OVER 52.5 and feel confidently in doing so.

Ohio State at Michigan State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Ohio State at Michigan State odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The 3rd-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten) travel to meet the Michigan State Spartans (3-1, 1-0) Saturday in a conference game at Spartan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (Peacock). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Ohio State vs. Michigan State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Buckeyes have rolled Akron, Western Michigan and Marshall to start the season, but that isn’t exactly a gauntlet. Ohio State has scored 49 or more points in each of the 3 wins, which have come by 35 or more points. The Over has cashed in all 3 outings for Ohio State.

The Spartans play their 2nd conference game of the season. Michigan State topped Maryland 27-24 on the road as an 8.5-point underdog as the Over (44.5) cashed. That was the only time the total has gone high in 4 games for Sparty.

Michigan State followed the win over Maryland with a 40-0 victory against Prairie View A&M, but it suffered a 23-19 loss at Boston College last week in the emotional Red Bandanna game for the Eagles. MSU did hang on for the cover as a 5-point underdog.

Ohio State at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 45, Michigan State 16

Moneyline

Ohio State (-3000) will cost you 30 times your potential return. In other words, if you risk $100, you make just $3.33 in profit. It should go without saying, but taking such heavy favorites is a foolish wager and a terrible long-term betting strategy.

AVOID.

Against the spread

This is a big number, but OHIO STATE -23.5 (-115) is worth a look at this price.

The Buckeyes have won the past 8 meetings in this series since Nov. 19, 2016, and each of the past 5 wins in the series have been by 24 or more points. The average winning margin is 34.6 PPG in the past 7 wins by Ohio State in this series, too.

Over/Under

OVER 48.5 (-110) might be the strongest play on the board in this Big Ten battle.

The Buckeyes have collected the Over in all 3 games to date, going for 49 or more points in each outing.

The Over has also cashed in each of the past 2 meetings in East Lansing, with the winning team collecting 49 or more points in 3 of the past 4 outings in the series. It’s very possible Ohio State could take on this total all on its own.

Michigan State at Boston College odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Michigan State at Boston College odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Michigan State Spartans (3-0) and Boston College Eagles (2-1) clash Saturday at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (ACC Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Michigan State vs. Boston College odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Sparties failed to cover as 42-point faves in a 40-0 shellacking of Prairie View A&M last week. QB Aidan Chiles was 12-for-19 for 173 yards and a score before exiting in garbage time. He has 4 TDs and 4 INTs on the young season.

BC covered as a 14.5-point dog in a 27-21 defeat to the Mizzou Tigers last week. The Eagles were up 14-3 on the top-10 team before Missouri broke out of its hibernation and took control. QB Thomas Castellanos was 16-for-28 for 249 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs in the game.

Michigan State at Boston College picks and predictions

Prediction

Boston College 21, Michigan State 17

Moneyline

The Spartans lost RG Gavin Broscious (leg) potentially for the season last week. They have a number of injuries in the secondary. WR Jaron Glover (undisclosed), who missed last week’s game, has a chance to return.

BC is battle tested and the way to go here, but the ML is too expensive. Instead, I’ll take THOMAS CASTELLANOS OVER 184.5 PASSING YARDS (-115). He has had 249 and 234 in the last 2 games, and MSU will make a concerted effort to limit his running ability.

Against the spread

As of Friday afternoon, 71% of the cash is on BOSTON COLLEGE -6.5 (-105). BC is 3-0 ATS, and it has played 2 very good opponents very well. Meanwhile, MSU is 1-2 ATS against inferior opponents.

Take BC -6.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Both teams are 1-2 O/U on the season. These teams haven’t faced one another since BC won 24-21 in 2007. There is also a 39-percent chance of rain, which would really bog things down as well.

Take the UNDER 45.5 (-110).

Lock it in with Alex: Bet this Big Ten side in Michigan State-Maryland

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White likes a side in Saturday’s Big Ten matchup between the Michigan State Spartans and Maryland Terrapins.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

SportsbookWire.com’s Alex White is taking advantage of a Big Ten line that was set due to an “over-reaction from what we saw in Week 1.”

The Michigan State Spartans (1-0) visit the Maryland Terrapins (1-0) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network).

The Terps are favored by 9.5 points, according to BetMGM Sportsbook as of Friday, 8:51 a.m. ET. The Over/Under line is 44.5.

Listen below to why this is one of Alex’s best bets on the board.

Make sure to catch Alex on Sports By the Book Saturday 11 a.m.-noon ET, and Sunday through Wednesday noon-1 p.m. ET, and on Punch Lines every Monday and Wednesday 3 p.m.-4 p.m. ET — live from the South Point Sportsbook in Las Vegas. Follow @alexwhitee on Twitter/X.
