Michigan State has offered a 4-star outside linebacker from Carrollton, Georgia.

I thought about starting this story off with some type of joke playing on the name ‘Chief’ but to be honest I don’t know if anyone needs a strained pun on the Monday after the Fourth of July, so I’ll just get straight to it. On Monday, 4-star 2021 outside linebacker Chief Borders announced that he has received an offer to Michigan State.

Borders has a big disparity between his 247Sports recruiting ranking and his Composite Ranking. 247Sports has him as a 3-star prospect and the No. 58 ranked outside linebacker in his class. Their Composite Rankings have him as the No. 19 ranked outside linebacker and a 4-star prospect.

Borders currently plays for Carrollton High School in Georgia and has offers out from Georgia, Auburn, Florida, Oregon and more.

Michigan State Football offers top 2023 prospect Keldric Faulk

The Spartans have offered a scholarship to defensive end Keldric Faulk, who should be one of the top ranked pass rushers in the 2023 class.

[jwplayer h3HLhWW4]

As we have noted repeatedly during our coverage of Mel Tucker’s aggressive recruiting since arrive at Michigan State, he has not only been heavily focused on 2021 and 2022, but he has already fixed his eye upon the 2023 and 2024 classes, offering some big names from those groups early on in the process. One of the top prospects from the 2023 class is defensive end Keldrick Faulk, and he announced that he received an offer from the Spartans on Thursday.

Faulk isn’t officially ranked yet, but should be one of the top players in the 2023 class once they start getting star-ratings. The 6’5″ defensive end currently plays for Highland Home High School in Alabama and already has offers out from some big-time schools like Alabama, Florida State, LSU, and Penn State.

[jwplayer rDH0bFZm]

In the world of Michigan State athletics recruiting, it has been the basketball team that has garnered much of the (well-deserved) attention this week after top high school basketball recruit Emoni Bates committed to the Spartans, but that’s not to say that Mel Tucker and his football staff aren’t still hard at work. MSU’s 2021 football recruiting class took another important step forward today with the announcement from 3-star cornerback Chase Lowery’s top-8, a list that included Michigan State.

The top ten highest-ranked Michigan State Football recruits since 2000

We took a look at the top ten highest-ranked MSU Football recruits in the last twenty years, according to their 247Sports rankings.

[jwplayer gcEn4Lgq]

Earlier this week, we took a look at the top ten recruits in the modern era of Michigan State Basketball. Today, we are going to do a similar exercise with the football program, listing out the top ten recruits in the MSU Football program in the last twenty years according to their 247Sports recruiting rankings.

We start our list with a recent running back who delivered some memorable moments to the program…

Notre Dame welcomes top running back target for virtual visit

Notre Dame has had tough luck recruiting the running back position in 2021 but are said to have had a productive virtual vist on Thursday.

Notre Dame has added some nice recruiting pieces in their 2021 class but are yet to land a commitment from a running back.

Logan Diggs is rated as a three-star running back from Metairie, Louisiana and currently holds 25 scholarship offers.  On Thursday he visited virtually with Notre Dame.

No commitment was made but the visit must have gone well considering Diggs decided to go with the ALL CAPS while typing “great”.

In all seriousness, it’s at least a step in the right direction.  For whatever it’s worth, 247Sports doesn’t seem to have Notre Dame as a real contender for Diggs as Arizona State, Arkansas, Michigan State, Oklahoma State and USC all receive the “warm” status in regards to his recruitment while Notre Dame gets hit with “cool”.  The Irish were later to the party than others, only having offered Diggs a scholarship on May 5.

Diggs is listed at 6-0, 195 pounds and ran for 924 yards on 165 carries at Archbishop Rummel in Louisiana last year, helping guide his team to a 13-0 record and a Louisiana Division I state championship.

Michigan State Football makes Top-5 for 3-star Georgia RB Gabe Ervin

The Spartans made the final cut for the recruitment of Georgia RB Gabe Ervin.

Gabe Ervin is a 3-star running back out of Buford, Georgia and on Thursday afternoon he released his top-5 final choices for his recruitment and one of those programs was Michigan State Football.

Ervin is the No. 92 ranked player in the state of Georgia, and Georgia itself made the cut for the No. 95 ranked running back in the 2021 class (per 247Sports rankings).

Also making Ervin’s final five was Nebraska, Duke, and Arizona State.

Spartan fans will want to note that Michigan also offered Ervin back in April but did not make his final cut.

MSU Football makes Top-5 for 3-star OG Kolinu’u Faaiu

3-star OG Kolinu’u Faaiu has placed Michigan State in his top-5 for recruiting.

We are now knee-deep in the ‘Top-X’ period of the recruiting season, with players around the country putting out their final lists of schools for their recruiting processes. One of these players, 2021 3-star OG Kolinu’u Faaiu out of North Creek High School in Bothell, Washington, has placed MSU Football in his final Top-5 for his own recruitment.

Kolinu’u, or Koli as his name is listed on 247Sports, is yet another massive offensive line target for Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker and offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic. Faaiu is 6’4″, 315-pounds, which would make him a great addition to the ‘Juice Squad’ as the Spartans’ offensive line is affectionately referred by.

Faaiu is the No. 12 ranked plyaer in Washington and the No. 28 ranked offensive guard in the 2021 class.

MSU Football first Power-5 school to offer 2022 3-star OT Max Bowman

Michigan State is the first in the conference to offer 6’6″ tackle Max Bowman.

[jwplayer gcEn4Lgq]

At the time of this posting, 2022 3-star offensive tackle Max Bowman only has three offers. One from Central Michigan, one from Massachusetts, and now, as of Wednesday, he has his first from a Power-5 conference school as he announced that Michigan State has offered him a scholarship.

However, we don’t expect that to last long at all. Bowman is the No. 41 ranked offensive tackle in the 2022 class and the No. 12 ranked player in Pennsylvania. This first offer from MSU is likely the start of many to start pouring in for the 6’6″, 280-pound (we had to note the height for all you Mel Tucker recruiting height fans) offensive tackle.
