Michigan State basketball at Purdue: Stream, broadcast info, three things to watch, prediction

MSU basketball heads to Purdue on Sunday– here’s what you need to know for this matchup between the Spartans and Boilermakers

Michigan State basketball heads to Purdue in yet another big-time conference showdown on Sunday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Spartans are looking for consecutive wins for the first time in a few weeks, with Michigan State picking up a victory over Iowa earlier this week. Michigan State has dropped three of their last five, and sit 14-7 overall and 6-4 in Big Ten play this year.

Purdue remains one of the best teams in the country, ranked No. 1 entering this matchup. The Boilermakers have lost only once this year, and are 20-1 overall and 9-1 in the Big Ten.

Purdue beat Michigan State in the first meeting between the Spartans and Boilermakers this year at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State basketball falls to Purdue in Big Ten Tournament semifinals

Michigan State basketball’s run in the Big Ten Tournament came to an end on Saturday

Michigan State basketball’s run in the Big Ten Tournament came to an end on Saturday.

The Spartans fell to Purdue in Saturday’s Big Ten Tournament semifinals matchup, 75-70. Michigan State trailed for most of the game, but never stopped fighting with the Boilermakers finishing off the Spartans in the final minutes.

Michigan State trailed 27-20 at halftime after a poor shooting effort in the opening frame. It appeared the Spartans were feeling the effects of three games in three days, which resulted in the offensive struggles. Additionally, Michigan State lost Tyson Walker to an ankle injury in the first few minutes that led to him missing the remainder of the game.

The second half didn’t start off great for Michigan State either, who fell behind by as many as 13 points in the half. However, the Spartans were able to battle back and cut Purdue’s lead to just one point with 5:45 to go in the game. From there, the Boilermakers took over with a 9-0 run to build a comfortable lead they’d never surrender.

Michigan State was led offensively by AJ Hoggard , with 17 points and 10 assists. Gabe Brown also had a strong offensive outing with 16 points.

With a pair of wins in the Big Ten Tournament, Michigan State is a lock to be heading to the NCAA Tournament next weekend. The Spartans will find out their seeding and first round matchup on Sunday.

Michigan State basketball upsets No. 4 Purdue on last second three from Tyson Walker

That was a massive win for Michigan State!

Michigan State basketball may have just clinched a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The Spartans upset Purdue in an extremely exciting battle that concluded with a game-winning three-pointer from Tyson Walker. The game was tied at 65-65 with Michigan State holding for the final shot — which Walker drained with 1.1 seconds left to power the Spartans to the massive win.

Michigan State had been struggling as of late, dropping three straight and five of their past six. However, Saturday’s upset win over the highly ranked Boilermakers should lock up a bid in the NCAA Tournament.

The Spartans came out firing early on, and led for most of the game. Michigan State carried a 35-33 lead into halftime, and built up an 11-point lead in the second half. Purdue never went away though, and was able to get the game tied up in the final minute of the game. From there, Walker came through to lead Michigan State to the win.

Michigan State was led offensively by four Spartans in double figures of scoring — Gabe Brown (13 points), Julius Marble (12 points), Max Christie (11 points) and AJ Hoggard (11 points). Walker finished with eight points.

The win over Purdue moves Michigan State to 19-9 on the season and 10-7 in conference play. This is a signature win, and arguably the Spartans best victory of the season.

Michigan State will wrap up the regular season next week, with three more games left on the slate. First up is a road trip to rival Michigan on Tuesday. Tipoff from the Crisler Center is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on Fox Sports 1.

Michigan State football upset by Purdue, drop first game of season

Michigan State is no longer perfect following a tough upset loss at Purdue

[mm-video type=video id=01fkrcd72vdbagx92kye playlist_id=01eqbz825g32p3akwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fkrcd72vdbagx92kye/01fkrcd72vdbagx92kye-7db07efd08b7f474979246f0b94bc1fd.jpg]

Michigan State is no longer perfect.

The Spartans dropped their first game of the season, losing at Purdue on Saturday by the score of 40-29. Michigan State never led in this game, and with the loss, the Spartans fall to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten on the season.

Michigan State trailed 21-14 at halftime but was able to tie the game early in the third quarter on a 32-yard touchdown run by Payton Thorne. Things went south from there with the Boilermakers scoring the next 16 points to build a commanding lead late into the fourth quarter.

The Spartans were able to get it down to a one-possession game with 5:03 left in the game thanks to a Tre Mosley touchdown and two-point conversion. However, Michigan State couldn’t stop Purdue from driving down the field to kick a game-clinching field goal.

Michigan State was outgained 594 to 458 in total yards. Of the 594 yards given up by the Spartans, 536 of it came in the air in what ultimately killed Michigan State in this matchup.

Michigan State’s Heisman candidate running back Kenneth Walker III had a solid game with 136 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. He should remain in the Heisman conversation but this loss will hurt his stock despite a solid performance.

The Spartans will look to regroup from this loss next week in a home game against Maryland. Kickoff time and TV details have not been announced yet.

Michigan State (10-8) vs Purdue (13-8) Game Preview

For latest lines and to bet on college basketball, go to BetMGM

Why Michigan State Will Win

The Spartans almost got the Spartans the first time around back in early January.

It was a low-scoring fight of a 55-54 game with the Spartan D clamping down on the outside allowing Purdue to hit just 3-of-24 threes.

For all of MSU’s problems, it’s been able to battle well – it had problems with Iowa over the last few games – it’s moving the ball around well, it’s getting enough rebounds to be okay, and it should be able to bother a Purdue team that doesn’t force mistakes and is way too inconsistent from the field.

However …

Why Purdue Will Win

Michigan State’s defense doesn’t do a thing to take the ball away. That’s a huge problem considering the shooters aren’t there from the outside and there isn’t any consistent scoring punch to rely on.

Yeah, the Spartans are decent at coming up with rebounds, but Purdue is far better at coming up with the big ones – and more of them. It’ll be able to clean up its own mistakes a bit better while showing just enough scoring punch to pull away.

The Boilermakers aren’t going to hit just 13% from three like it did the first time.

What’s Going To Happen

This is a painfully inconsistent Purdue team that just can’t go on a run over the last few weeks.

Actually, this is a painfully consistent Purdue team in one way – it has gone win-loss-win-loss-win-loss over the last six. It’s been able to adapt and adjust, and the schedule has a little bit to do with it.

Purdue takes this tough home game be being nastier on the boards.
