Michigan State is in “good shape” in regards to player safety and being able to play in Thursday’s Peach Bowl against Pitt.

COVID-19 has been the cause for numerous bowl games being canceled this year, with some being called hours before kickoff. However, head coach Mel Tucker said on Wednesday that his team is in a good place in regards to COVID and that “the game is very important to us, and we’re doing everything we can to get to the game.”

Here are a pair of tweets from Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press and Matt Wenzel of MLive on the matter:

Hearing Tucker’s comments are great for Spartans fans as it would be very disappointing for the season to end without the Peach Bowl being played. As we’ve learned so far this bowl season, nothing is certain until we actually see the opening kickoff but things appear to be in a good spot for Thursday’s Peach Bowl to take place as planned.

Kickoff between the Spartans and Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Thursday. The game will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed has yet to decide on whether or not he’ll be coming back for another year in East Lansing, Mich.

Reed said on Tuesday that he’s not going to have a decision on his future with the Spartans until after the Peach Bowl. Reed leads Michigan State in receiving this year with 946 yards and eight touchdowns on 53 receptions.

Reed is only a junior and would be forgoing his senior season should he enter the NFL Draft early. It’s unclear at this time what his draft stock is and where he’d be projected to land, but he has at least played well enough this season to consider leaving a year early.

Kickoff between the Spartans and Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Thursday. The game will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

One of the Spartans’ top offensive threats will be back for the Peach Bowl later this week.

Michigan State wide receiver Jalen Nailor is expected to play against Pitt on Thursday after missing the last four games with a hand injury. Offensive Coordinator Jay Johnson confirmed on Tuesday that Nailor will play in the Peach Bowl.

Nailor last played in the Spartans’ victory over Michigan on Oct. 30. In that game, Nailor experienced a hand injury that has kept him out for Michigan State’s final four games of the year.

Nailor has 587 yards and six touchdowns on 31 receptions this season. With star running back Kenneth Walker III sitting out the bowl game, getting back another offensive threat like Nailor is huge for Michigan State in this matchup.

Kickoff between the Spartans and Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Thursday. The game will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

MSU vs. Pitt in Peach Bowl listed as one of top bowl games in CBS Sports’ ranking

Michigan State’s upcoming Peach Bowl matchup against Pitt is ranked as one of the top games this bowl season

[mm-video type=video id=01fnsm921hb17dad8120 playlist_id=01eqbz825g32p3akwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fnsm921hb17dad8120/01fnsm921hb17dad8120-220da62917430006b89dc8b1abd6726e.jpg]

Michigan State’s upcoming matchup with Pitt in the Peach Bowl is one of the top bowl games of the year, according to Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports.

Fornelli ranked all 42 bowl games in a fun article that was published on Monday, which broke down the best matchups this bowl season. The Peach Bowl that pits the Spartans against the Panthers was near the top of his list as the No. 4 bowl game. The only games ranked higher on his list were the Rose Bowl (Utah vs. Ohio State), Cotton Bowl (Alabama vs. Cincinnati), and Orange Bowl (Michigan vs. Georgia).

Here’s a little bit of what Fornelli had to say about the Peach Bowl matchup:

“Little did we know that there was more in the line in the ACC Championship Game than just a conference title. If Wake Forest had won the game, this would be the Kenneth Walker III Bowl between Walker’s old team and his current team. Instead, Pitt won, so now it’s the Pat Narduzzi Bowl, as the Pitt coach goes against the Michigan State team where he spent eight seasons as defensive coordinator before taking the Panthers job in 2015.”

Michigan State and Pitt will play in the Peach Bowl on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. EST. The game will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
