We’re down to four former Spartans in the Magic Johnson region
Hello and welcome to the Sweet 16 of our Favorite Spartans of All Time Tournament. The name is still terrible (and probably changed from the first round) but it’s still a pandemic out there and frankly, you and I have better things to worry about than thinking up a snappy name for this bracket challenge.
Some more big names went down in round two and we’re left with 16 of the most popular Michigan State Spartans of all time. This is when the real heavyweight matchups begin.
Without further ado, it’s time for the Sweet 16 in the Magic Johnson region.
The Spartans have offered a 3-star offensive lineman out of the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey.

Mel Tucker’s staff at Michigan State continues to be one of the most active in the country in terms of recruiting, seemingly sending out multiple scholarship offers on a daily basis. The latest offer announcement comes from Kevin Wigenton II, the 2021 3-star offensive guard out of Princeton, New Jersey.
Wigenton, who is 6’5″ 290 pounds, fits the offensive line profile it looks like Tucker and his offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic are looking for. The Spartans have offered multiple linemen 6’5″ or taller so far this offseason.
Very Excited to receive an offer from Michigan State University!! #GoGreen @CoachCKap @Red_Zone75 @OL_CoachBolis pic.twitter.com/MjN1AHrpVj

Wigenton is the No. 45 ranked offensive guard in the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 36 ranked player in the state of Texas according to 247sports.
Wigenton has offers from Big Ten rival Indiana, Pittsburgh and former Spartan defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Vanderbilt, and Yale, to name a few.

We had some upsets in round one, but the chalk held pretty steady across the board. That sets up a ton of big matchups in round two.
Let’s not waste any time and get into voting on the Mateen Cleaves region.

Michigan State Football defensive end Kenny Willekes put out a highlight tape addressing his haters on Thursday.
It seems like Kenny Willekes has been doubted at every level. Michigan State’s star pass-rusher started his career as a walk-on and despite numerous accolades at the college level, some still doubt his NFL potential and consider him to be a day 3 NFL Draft prospect. One of the biggest criticisms of Willekes is regarding his athleticism, and it seems as though Kenny took issue with that particular critique, putting out an awesome highlight tape on Thursday of him showcasing his athleticism.
You can watch it below:

Michigan State WR/CB Julian Barnett could potentially still play on both sides of the ball according to his coaching staff.
[jwplayer 7mRNeKHd]
Michigan State Football’s Julian Barnett was recruited to the Spartans last year as the No. 1 cornerback in the state of Michigan, but he spent every single snap of his freshman season playing wide receiver due to injuries. While Barnett has been meeting with the cornerbacks, it looks like there is still the possibility that he plays on both sides of the ball next season.
Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press was on calls with both defensive coordinator Scottie Hazelton and offensive coordinator Jay Johnson, and both members of Mel Tucker’s coaching staff spoke on the talented young Spartan.
From Hazelton:
“Julian has been in our rooms now, playing some corner, doing some of that stuff and getting trained that way.
From Johnson:
“I’ve heard about Julian and have seen some things about him, but I hear he’s a very talented athlete… so my approach on that is — and that’s going to really probably come from Coach Tuck — but where does he make our team better? … I could see that possibly being on either side of the ball because of his skill set, which is really exciting.”
Barnett had 13 reception in his freshman year for 182 yards and also returned a few kicks for MSU.
