Michigan State football will start the 2022 season ranked in both the media and coaches’ preseason polls.

Last week, the Spartans came in at No. 14 in the USA TODAY Sports coaches preseason rankings. On Monday, Michigan State was listed at No. 15 in the AP Top 25 poll.

The Spartans will have to prove they belong in the top 10 by playing games, but they have certainly earned the respect of voters that last year wasn’t just a flash in the pan.

Michigan State football is officially back.

Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker met with media following the first practice and had these notable comments:

Michigan State football listed in Lindy’s preseason top 25

Michigan State cracked Lindy’s preseason top 25 for the upcoming college football season

Michigan State cracked Lindy’s preseason top 25 for the upcoming college football season.

The preseason poll from Lindy’s was recently released, and the Spartans were one of the 25 teams to make the list. Michigan State came in at No. 20 on the list — which is rather low compared to similar preseason polls coming out.

Here’s what was written about the Spartans:

“The Spartans piled up players in the transfer portal and hope veteran leadership on offense can help replace the production of Doak Walker winner Kenneth Walker and his obvious impact in the ground game. Three new starters along the offensive line might be concerning. The secondary was college football’s worst in 2021, so improvements needed there are obvious as well.”

Other Big Ten teams listed in Lindy’s preseason poll include Ohio State (No. 2), Michigan (No. 6) and Wisconsin (No. 16).

Projecting best- and worst-case scenarios for every Big Ten team in 2022

Check out our best- and worst-case scenarios for each Big Ten team this upcoming season

It’s something every college football fan does for their team: what’s the best- and worst-case scenario heading into the season? What are the minimum and a maximum number of games my favorite team will win and lose?

This is something I’ve personally done for years and now I’m taking it to the keyboard for each and every Big Ten team as we look ahead to the 2022 season.

247Sports predicts best-, worst-case scenarios for MSU football in 2022

In the eyes of 247Sports’ Brad Crawford, Michigan State football will be somewhere between seven to 10 wins in 2022

In the eyes of 247Sports’ Brad Crawford, Michigan State football will be somewhere between seven to 10 wins in 2022.

Crawford released his best- and worst-case scenarios for each Big Ten team this past week, which found Michigan State making a bowl game no matter what. He believes Michigan State in a best-case scenario would go 10-2, while his worst-case scenario is 7-5 for the Spartans.

Here’s a bit of what Crawford had to say about Michigan State’s two scenarios:

“Michigan State plays the four highest-ranked teams in the Big Ten this season, so splitting matchups with Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State is likely best case for Mel Tucker’s crew. … Would the Spartans have this much of a significant fall from grace after last season’s success? It’s possible if the ground game fails to produce without Kenneth Walker III.”

Click on the tweet below to see the complete write-up on Michigan State, as well as Crawford’s projections for every Big Ten team:
