Colts sign 3 more to future contracts

The Colts signed three more to future contracts.

The Indianapolis Colts signed three more players to Reserve/Future contracts, the team announced Tuesday.

After signing nine players to future contracts and four more to one-year extensions Monday, the Colts signed safety Kendell Brooks, guard Lewis Kidd and safety Michael Tutsie to future contracts.

Kidd spent most of the season on the practice squad when he was signed in September but was released from the practice squad in December.

Tutsie signed with the Colts this offseason as an undrafted rookie free agent in June and was active in training camp before suffering an injury that led to him being waived-injured in August. He was waived with an injury settlement the following week.

Brooks, a Michigan State product, spent the 2023 offseason with the Arizona Cardinals after signing with them as an undrafted rookie free agent. He was released before the start of the regular season.

The Colts can sign as many future contracts as they please as long as the offseason roster does not exceed the 90-player limit, which does not go into effect until the start of the new league, which is set for March 13.

Colts sign RB Jason Huntley, TE Ricky Seals-Jones

The Colts made some roster moves Wednesday.

The Indianapolis Colts signed free-agent running back Jason Huntley and tight end Ricky Seals-Jones and waive-injured tight end La’Michael Pettway and safety Michael Tutsie, the team announced Wednesday.

After bringing in Kareem Hunt for a visit only for the free agent to leave without a contract, the Colts turned to another potential depth piece in the backfield in the form of Huntley.

Huntley, 25, was a fifth-round pick with the Detroit Lions out of New Mexico State. He didn’t make the final roster cuts during his rookie season and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles where he spent two seasons (2020-2021). He also spent the 2022 season on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad, and he was on the 2023 offseason roster before being released Aug. 1.

Seals-Jones, 28, entered the league as an undrafted free-agent rookie in 2017, spending two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (2017-2018). He’s also spent time with the Cleveland Browns (2019), Kansas City Chiefs (2020), Washington Football Team (2021).

He spent the 2022 offseason with the New York Giants before missing the entire season due to a toe injury.

The two players waived in Pettway and Tutsie will revert to the injured reserve list if they clear waivers.

What Daniel Scott’s injury means for the Colts

This week the Indianapolis Colts revealed the news that their rookie safety, Daniel Scott, will miss the season due to a torn ACL.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that Scott suffered the injury during the last play of OTA’s last week. The team subsequently placed Scott on the injured reserve list and signed undrafted rookie free-agent safety Michael Tutsie.

Tutsie, a rookie and mini-camp tryout, wracked up five years of playing time at North Dakota State, including 56 starts and 11 interceptions.

Scott’s injury significantly decreases the number of available depth players for the team’s secondary. Like the cornerback unit, the team’s safety unit is thin on pure safety players, with most being limited in experience or having played special teams.

It’s reasonable to suspect that the team will continue to evaluate the position and look to perhaps add additional insurance. If this is the case, there are a few options for the team to mull over in the coming days, including a player currently on the roster like Trevor Denbow, who provides immediate athleticism.

Considering how often Gus Bradley’s defense uses three safety packages, it could lead to more opportunities for second-year safety Nick Cross while players like Denbow, Tutsie, Henry Black and Marcel Dabo will compete for the final spot in the room.

With a 9-12 month recovery, Scott could be ready for next year’s offseason activities—best wishes to him and a speedy recovery.

The Indianapolis Colts signed free-agent safety Michael Tutsie, the team announced Thursday.

This move comes directly in correspondence with the news that fifth-round pick Daniel Scott suffered a torn ACL during OTAs. Scott was placed on the injured reserve list, ending his season and opening up a roster spot.

Tutsie, an undrafted rookie free agent out of North Dakota State, participated in the team’s rookie minicamp and veteran minicamp on a tryout basis. He’s an Indy native and Warren Central alum.

At 5-foot-10 and 189 pounds, Tutsie ran a 4.61 in the 40-yard dash while posting a 6.87 in the three-cone drill, a 33.5-inch vertical and a 10-foot-1-inch broad jump.

A sixth-year senior, Tutsie appeared in 68 games (56 starts) at North Dakota State. He recorded 338 tackles (184 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, 22 passes defensed, 11 interceptions and two forced fumbles.
