The New York Giants were out on the field on Tuesday afternoon, the first of their two mandatory minicamp sessions this week that will be open to the media.

Star running back Saquon Barkley was not in attendance as he is not currently under contract but several other notables were, such as Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells, Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan and two-time Super Bowl champion running back Brandon Jacobs.

Former Giants public relations man, Avis Roper, who is now a member of the league office, also stopped by.

Parcells, 81, has been retired from the NFL since 2011. His last job was as the Executive Vice President of Football for the Miami Dolphins. One of his top scouts was a young man by the name of Joe Schoen, who is now the general manager of the Giants.

Schoen accompanied his former boss around the practice field as the Giants ran through some drills.

Parcells also stepped by to converse with the current Giants head coach, Brian Daboll.

After practice, Parcells addressed the team as a group on the field. His main message: unity.

See it: Deonte Banks styling in Giants Hall of Famer’s clothing line

While Deonte Banks didn’t attend the draft, he made sure to dress up for his presser, and the collection he wore has New York Giants roots.

New York Giants first-round draft pick, cornerback Deonte Banks, held his introductory press conference last Friday. And while Banks didn’t attend the 2023 NFL draft itself, he made sure to dress up for the presser and the collection he wore had Giants roots.

The team at Michael Strahan™, co-founded by the pro football Hall of Famer and Giants legend, gifts NFL draftees a custom suit each year. Banks was the recipient of the suit before the Giants drafted him and Strahan commented on the coincidence on Twitter.

Banks picked out a classic black pinstripe suit which he styled with a crisp white dress shirt and an iced-out necklace. He finished the ensemble with, what else, a New York Giants draft hat.

Banks sure looked good at the podium.

The Michael Strahan™ custom-made to-measure suiting program is available at Men’s Wearhouse.

Giants great Michael Strahan inducted into Texas Sports Hall of Fame

New York Giants legend Michael Strahan has been inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Retired New York Giants defensive lineman Michael Strahan has compiled quite a resume since walking away from the game of football.

He’s established himself as a popular host and co-host of various shows, launched his own clothing brand, and even visited outer space. And sandwiched in between, Strahan was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

But that’s not the only Hall of Fame in which Strahan is inshrined.

Over the weekend, Strahan was also inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Waco.

Michael Strahan was without a doubt one of the most feared defensive players in NFL history. After attending Texas Southern University, Strahan was drafted 40th overall by the New York Giants, where he spent his entire 15-year professional career. Strahan is a seven-time Pro Bowler and led the NFL in sacks for two seasons (2001, 2003). In 2001, he set the single-season sack record with a staggering 22.5 sacks and won NFL Defensive Player of the Year. In his final game as an NFL player, Strahan helped lead the Giants to a Super Bowl victory (2008) against the undefeated New England Patriots. He finished his career with 141.5 sacks, sixth all-time in NFL history. He is also a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s and Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014.

“Sports has been the most valuable thing outside of family that I’ve had, and I’m so grateful for the great sport of football,” Strahan said during his speech. “Honored to officially be a member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

“Grateful to have my mom, brothers, sister, and friends in attendance with me. Congratulations to the entire class of 2023.”

Strahan was also previously inducted into the Black College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

Chiefs legend Priest Holmes set for induction into Texas Sports Hall of Fame

Former #Chiefs RB Priest Holmes is set to be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on April 15th alongside Michael Strahan and Adrian Peterson. | from @TheJohnDillon

Kansas City Chiefs legend Priest Holmes is set to be inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame on April 15th after illustrious collegiate and NFL careers.

A native of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Holmes originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent by way of the Baltimore Ravens in 1997 after playing at the University of Texas. He found a long-term home in Kansas City in 200 and managed to put together one of the most impressive three-year runs in NFL history between his signing with the Chiefs through 2003.

Holmes recently spoke to reporter Brice Cherry of the Waco Tribune-Herald this week about his inspiration to play football in Austin and cited two all-time greats as motivating factors in his decision to commit to Texas after graduating from high school.

“For me, I looked at Earl Campbell,” He explained to Cherry. “One thing stood out to me — I didn’t look anything like Earl. So when I’m playing tackle football in the street, I’d see Tony Dorsett and the more I’d watch him and the more believable it would become when I’d see him. I thought, ‘I kind of look like him. I think I can run like him, I think I can pretend to be him.’ It was much easier to pretend to be him than pretend to be Earl Campbell, not having that type of size and stature.”

His ability to out-run, out-maneuver, and even bulldoze defenders cemented his place as one of the Chiefs’ most beloved running backs. Even years later, fans still recount his gritty running style that defined Kansas City’s brand of football in the early 2000s.

“All I wanted to do, I wanted to see Tony Dorsett’s locker,” Holmes told Cherry. “I’d heard he had a locker that was enshrined and still there, and you get a chance to walk the halls of where Tony Dorsett went.”

Though Chiefs legends like Christian Okoye and Marcus Allen weren’t part of the discussion relative to his college commitment, Holmes is sure to be forgiven by the Kansas City faithful who remain enamored by what he was able to accomplish on the field at Arrowhead Stadium.

For Chiefs fans in the Lone Star State who may want to attend the ceremony, a banquet is to be held in Waco, Texas on April 15th where Holmes will be in attendance with other inductees including Adrian Peterson and Michael Strahan.

Hopes in Kansas City are still high that Holmes may be considered for selection to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, though this most recent honor will have to suffice for now. As fans of the new era of NFL football start to yearn for the return of hard-nosed rushing attacks, Holmes’ effort and tenacity on the ground are sure to be appreciated even more as time goes on.

Julian Love names his top 5 Giants defenders of all time

Julian Love lists his top 5 New York Giants defenders of all time which is highlighted, of course, by the legend himself, Lawrence Taylor.

New York Giants safety Julian Love has made a huge impact on defense over the past few seasons. He is a Notre Dame guy who is a student of the game.

In a recent piece on the website The 33rd Team. Love listed his top five all-time Giants defenders.

As a person who has covered this team for the past quarter century and has been an ardent fan and follower for more than 55 years, I find this list to be dead-on.

Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahan, and Harry Carson are Hall of Famers in the Super Bowl era, which is a special accomplishment so they all belong on the list. Carl Banks and Jessie Armstead were among the best at their positions while they played, so I have no issue with them being on this list as well.

Some honorable mentions in my book from the Super Bowl era: Brad Van Pelt, Leonard Marshall, Mark Haynes, John Mendenhall, Spider Lockhart, Osi Umenyiora, and Justin Tuck.

It’s difficult to compare eras and for someone to be listed from the ’round ball’ era would be a tough call.

That being said, here is a quick list of some players from the previous era that deserve mentioning: Sam Huff, Emlen Tunnell, Andy Robustelli, Jimmy Patton, and Erich Barnes.

Michael Strahan: Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley need to remain with Giants

Michael Strahan believes the New York Giants must retain both QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley or risk taking a step back.

Former New York Giants great Michael Strahan believes his old team needs to keep both running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason.

“You gotta keep Saquon,” Strahan said, via the New York Post. “You can see that Daniel Jones is better with him in there, the team is better with him in there, he’s a leader in every single way. I think Saquon Barkley is one of the players that you have to keep on this team in order to build off what they did last year.”

Strahan played with many quarterbacks — both good and bad — during his 15 years with the Giants: Phil Simms, Dave Brown, Kent Graham, Danny Kanell, Kerry Collins, Kurt Warner and finally, Eli Manning. The Hall of Famer knows a good quarterback when he sees one and is high on Jones.

“This guy hasn’t been in the same system with the same head coach, coordinator, anything since he’s been with the Giants,” Strahan said. “See what he did this year? With a receiving corps that was depleted? It’s just amazing to me that he made the playoffs. And he took over games when he needed to take over.”

Giants general manager Joe Schoen is wrestling with the prospect of keeping both players, who are just weeks away from becoming unrestricted free agents.

It will cost the Giants almost all of their available cap space ($44 million) to retain both players. Schoen will have to be creative in his approach.

Strahan believes it will be well worth the investment comparing Jones to two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning.

“You have to pay Daniel Jones. That’s just the way football works right now. And the hardest position to fill is quarterback. So, if you don’t keep him, somebody else will get him and then what’s your next move? There’s no guarantee anyone else is gonna be great,” Strahan said.

“So I think that Daniel did enough to earn himself a great contract there in New York. I think he has the right temperament. I didn’t think I’d meet anybody or see anybody who’s more quiet than Eli Manning when they played, and Daniel Jones has accomplished that. He’s done that.”

We are about to see just how good Schoen is at his job. Most Giant fans want to see Jones and Barkley return but it’s going to be a tight fit.

Giants great Michael Strahan offers Tom Brady some retirement advice

Retired New York Giants great Michael Strahan has some retirement advice for his old foe and current friend, Tom Brady.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady announced his retirement earlier this week, saying it’s “for good” this time.

Brady, of course, had previously announced his retirement but ultimately decided to return to the NFL for another year. This time around, there was far less pomp and circumstance in his goodbye.

Brady’s announcement was quick and to the point. Now it’s expected that he’ll sign a one-day contract with the New England Patriots and exit the game back where it all began.

In the aftermath of Brady’s announcement, New York Giants legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer, Michael Strahan, offer his old foe and current friend some advice.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CoH2SIzA5We/

“Being a good friend of his, I know it’s not an easy decision,” Strahan said. “But I know one thing: he’s gonna excel in life after football just as much as he excelled in life with football. So, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for Tom.

“Congratulations, my friend. Don’t get 20 jobs like me! Enjoy yourself a little bit more.”

Strahan, of course, immediately jumped into a media career following his retirement in 2008. He hasn’t left the television screen since, hosting or co-hosting shows such as FOX NFL Sunday, Good Morning America, Live! With Kelly and Michael and The $100,000 Pyramid.

But don’t expect Brady to heed Strahan’s advice. The seven-time Super Bowl champion has a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX Sports to serve as their No. 1 NFL game analyst alongside Kevin Burkhardt.

Kayvon Thibodeaux, Joe Staley engaged in hilariously bizarre Twitter feud over 49ers NFC title loss

Thibodeaux v. Staley was quite a Twitter battle.

New York Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and former San Francisco 49ers tackle Joe Staley got into one of the strangest Twitter beefs of the new year.

As the 49ers struggled to mount much of a fight against the Philadelphia Eagles during Sunday’s NFC championship, Thibodeaux took to Twitter to troll San Francisco for their bad afternoon.

Well, Staley took great offense to that and decided to slam Thibodeaux’s playing ability and say that he’s let New York media get to his head.

Thibodeaux responded with an equally devastating clapback, and the two were off in the bizarre social media back-and-forth. You can see the highlights below.

Then, out of nowhere, former Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes got in on the action.

Staley did not take kindly to Tynes’ response.

Adding to the conversation, former Giants pass rusher Michael Strahan came to Thibodeaux’s and Tynes’ defense.

As you can guess, there really wasn’t a “winner” to this feud, only social media hubbub. However, Staley wasn’t the only member of Niners faithful who didn’t like Thibodeaux’s post. San Francisco defensive end Arik Armstead had some critiques of his own.

Thibodeaux responded with a wisecrack of his own, but he doled out some respect for his fellow pass rusher.

While we certainly won’t see Thibodeaux and Staley take their beef onto the field since the latter hasn’t played since the 2019-20 season, the 49ers and Giants might have some words for each other the next time they play.

They both lost to the Eagles, so at least they have that in common.

Giants’ Kayvon Thibodeaux sparks Twitter beef with 49ers jab

New York Giants rookie LB Kayvon Thibodeaux ignited a Twitter war on Sunday night after taking aim at the San Francisco 49ers.

New York Giants rookie linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux is quickly becoming a lightning rod.

From his snow angel celebrations on the field to some of his commentary, Thibodeaux seems to rub some the wrong way. That played out again on Sunday night when Thibs took aim at the San Francisco 49ers on Twitter.

At the time of the tweet, the 49ers were taking it on the chin from the Philadelphia Eagles. They ultimately fell, 31-7, which sent Philly to the Super Bowl.

After catching wind of Thibodeaux’s tweet, retired 49ers offensive lineman Joe Staley returned fire on the rookie. Things took off from there.

The exchange eventually led retired Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes to chime in. He, too, took aim at Staley in an attempt to deflect some of the hate away from Thibodeaux.

Tynes, of course, kicked the Giants by the 49ers in the 2011 NFC Championship Game.

The back-and-forth did not sit well with Giants legend Michael Strahan.

For Thibodeaux, this wasn’t even his first “who are you” moment of the year. He had previously taken aim at Indianapolis Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday in much the same way.

The rookie then defended himself on Twitter.

If nothing else, Thibodeaux certainly knows how to stir the pot.

See it: Giants legend Michael Strahan receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Retired New York Giants legend Michael Strahan has officially received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Retired New York Giants Hall of Fame defensive end Michael Strahan added another accolade to his impressive resume this week when he was honored with his own star on Hollywood’s prestigious Walk of Fame.

Anything is possible. Athletes — especially ones like Strahan who cross over into the entertainment field — have received the honor in the past such as Terry Bradshaw, Muhammad Ali, and Magic Johnson.

The requirement for getting your own star on the Walk is basically just being famous in any of the five fields of film, television, music, radio, and comedy/live theater.

A candidate is nominated to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame selection committee which selects anywhere from 20 to 24 nominees each year. Nominees must have ‘a minimum of five years’ experience in the category for which they are nominated and a history of “charitable contributions.”‘

Strahan is now one of 2,725 celebrities on the walk which was established in 1960.
