Dolphins fans await official Vic Fangio confirmation

When we will officially know what’s going on with the reportedly hired DC?

Sunday was a day of elation for Miami Dolphin fans, as news broke that coveted defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was all but locked up and hired by the franchise. However, following rumors across social media over the last few days, it seems that there’s some speculation as to whether or not Fangio made it official.

With Fangio being one of the top defensive minds in the league and experienced in running top-tier units, it would be a match made in heaven with the supply of talent at his disposal in Miami.

Yet, as we sit on Tuesday morning, there’s still some conjecture as to if Fangio is signed, sealed and to be delivered. From a timeline standpoint, the usual suspects in NFL reporting broke the news, creating a tidal wave of excitement across the fan base just two days ago.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted the news on Sunday just prior to when the Philadelphia Eagles and San Fransisco 49ers kicked off their NFC Championship game. Ironically, it’s the Eagles with which Fangio has been a consultant this season, following a three-year stint as the Denver Broncos head coach.

Fellow insider Ian Rapoport confirmed with a tweet of his own, and the floodgates then opened with media members and fans alike rejoicing.  With confirmations flying from trusted Miami beat reporters as well as broadcasters and talking heads from across football, 48 hours later, many are wondering if the deal is in fact done.

The fire was set Monday when another The Volume’s Michael Silver tweeted his own grouping of characters which read like a Stephen King novella to the Miami fan base.

This tweet may as well have been the equivalent of lighting a match to a firestorm of worry and wonder. Fans have resorted to asking reporters to re-confirm something that we may not truly know… has already been confirmed.

The worry now is the lingering and eliminated 49ers, whom Fangio had a role with from 2011-14 as their defensive coordinator. He helped take that team to a Super Bowl during the 2012 season. Their current defensive coordinator, DeMeco Ryans, looks to become a head coach, creating an opening in San Fransisco for his role.

Following the Silver tweet, yet another prominent NFL insider, Peter King, chimed in.

With this being the week of Groundhog Day, which falls this Thursday, February 2, Dolphins fans may just be experiencing the same day for a few days, if not a week or so. The only thing that will put all the rumors to rest, will be a Dolphins press conference introducing Fangio.

We will all stay tuned to when that will be announced…hopefully.

Report: Seahawks plan to hire Andy Dickerson as run game coordinator

The Seattle Seahawks will reportedly hire the Los Angeles Rams’ offensive line coach Andy Dickerson as their running game coordinator.

In the wake of the Seattle Seahawks’ reported intent to hire the Los Angeles Rams’ passing game coordinator Shane Waldron to be their offensive coordinator, another name out of Los Angeles has surfaced to join him.

NFL media’s Michael Silver is reporting that the Seahawks plan to hire the Rams’ offensive line coach Andy Dickerson to fill the position of running game coordinator.

Like Waldron, Dickerson has extensive experience in the NFL, coaching the Rams’ offensive line since 2012 and serving under the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns in years prior.

Furthermore, Dickerson has known and worked with Waldron for a long time and their career paths could intersect once again in the Emerald City. If they do, they will be working closely together to improve the Seahawks’ offense in 2021.

Carlos Hyde played with a torn labrum throughout the 2019 season

Newly signed Seattle Seahawks running back Carlos Hyde played throughout the 2019 season with a torn labrum, even through the postseason.

New Seattle Seahawks running back Carlos Hyde played throughout the best season of his career last year with a torn labrum, including the postseason, per NFL Network’s Michael Silver.

“More on Carlos Hyde, who signed with the Seahawks today: In February, the RB underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.” Silver tweeted. “Hyde played through the injury throughout 2019 for the Texans and exacerbated it in the playoff defeat to the Chiefs.”

Hyde totaled 1,070 rushing yards on 245 carries while splitting duties with Duke Johnson in 2019. He is expected to return fully healthy in 2020, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The veteran running back now enters his seventh season in the NFL and joins a dynamic but fragile backfield featuring Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny, who are both coming off of season-ending injuries.

Hyde had surgery to repair his labrum in February, so he should settle back in steadily as one of multiple options in the Seahawks backfield should his recovery be complete.

Michael Silver: Jadeveon Clowney would love to stay in Seattle

NFL.com’s Michael Silver recently joined 710 ESPN Seattle and stated that Jadeveon Clowney would love to stay with the Seahawks in 2020.

Star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has still not found a team for the 2020 season. NFL.com’s Michael Silver joined 710 ESPN Seattle recently and stated Clowney would love to return to the Emerald City.

Silver said Clowney particularly admires the team culture and how being in Seattle has been a learning experience for him.

“I did have a long talk with him after that game with the Vikings last year,” Silver said. “He told me how much he loves the culture and how much he loves being in Seattle and how he thinks it taught him how to be a professional in a way that he hadn’t been previously. So I believe, all things being equal, that he would love to stay with the Seahawks, so it’ll be interesting to see, given their cap situation, given his financial parameters, if that can work out again.”

Clowney’s demands for a contract that pays him north of $20 million have not been met by any team so far, leading to speculation that he might sign a one-year deal with a team to boost his value so he can make more money the following season.

Silver went on to say Clowney’s financial wishes would probably be granted if he could consistently stay healthy.

“If you got that guy for 16 games healthy, I think he’d easily be getting $20 million a year,” Silver said.

“I think anyone with health stuff, right now, is in a worse situation than he normally would be,” Silver said. “Anyone who you’d say, ‘I’d love to have our doctors examine him before I know how we value this’ is in a spot … It is true that if you are Jadeveon Clowney, you’re wishing it was 2019 or, hopefully, 2021 if all goes well, but 2020 is a tricky year for that.”

Clowney will likely not receive what he is seeking, but the Seahawks will still be hard-pressed to re-sign him with their cap situation, especially if another team offers him more money. However, there is still a chance.

Report: Cameron Jordan played final 5 games of 2019 with serious muscle injury

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan told NFL.com’s Michael Silver that he finished the year with an injury that required surgery

[jwplayer Ixv61ByY-ThvAeFxT]

Playing professional football can be hazardous for your health, and it’s a common sentiment around the league that by the end of the year, everyone is dealing with one injury or another. The capacity for pain tolerance is a big factor in deciding one’s chances of success in the NFL, and New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan knows that as well as anyone. It’s why he admitted to NFL.com’s Michael Silver that he finished the 2019 season with a core muscle injury that required surgery two days after Super Bowl LIV.

Jordan told Silver that he tore an adductor muscle off the bone in last year’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but gutted out the pain to play 248 snaps in the final five weeks. While Jordan did get opportunities to rest in blowout victories over the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers, he still played 83.9% or more of defensive snaps in three of those last five contests — and then went on to join his teammates in the Pro Bowl. In total, just three Saints defenders saw more action in 2019 than Jordan (who was in on 876 plays): linebacker Demario Davis (984 snaps), free safety Marcus Williams (949), and cornerback Eli Apple (932).

Jordan’s been an iron man for the Saints ever since he won the starting job, back in 2012. He’s logged 7,626 defensive snaps during that time and never missed a game, with last year’s total being a career-low. While Silver’s report adds that Jordan expects to be fully recovered from offseason surgery by the time Saints training camp begins, it illustrates an important point — the team must take steps to keep him better-rested during the long NFL season, which is poised to only stretch longer with CBA negotiations surrounding a 17th regular season game. Jordan is one of the Saints’ best players, and it’s vital that he be in top form during the year’s biggest games. Maybe the Saints should look into rotating him in and out of the lineup a little more efficiently.
