Browns officially announce the hiring of Andy Dickerson, Roy Istvan with a statement from Kevin Stefanski

The Browns officially announce their new OL coach and assistant OL coach!

The Cleveland Browns have announced the hiring of offensive line coach Andy Dickerson and assistant offensive line coach Roy Istvan as head coach Kevin Stefanski released a statement.

As Bill Callahan departs to work with his son as the offensive line coach of the Tennessee Titans, the Browns brought in Dickerson, who has been an integral part of the run games and offensive line play for both the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks. He even interviewed for the opening at offensive coordinator in Cleveland.

Upon his hire, Stefanski had this to say about Dickerson:

“We were all very impressed with Andy, along with his background and knowledge when we first met about our offensive coordinator position… When our offensive line position opened, he was among the first calls I made. Andy loves teaching and will bring a passion and energy that will greatly benefit our linemen. He understands the high standard that room must have in order for our offense to be successful and we know he’s excited about being back in the building with this organization.”

Dickerson brings with him Istvan, who took a lateral gig after working with one of the best in the business for five years with the Philadelphia Eagles. With experience learning from Eagles’ offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, Istvan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him.

There is no replacing Callahan, so life without the legendary offensive line coach will be worth watching. However, pulling in Dickerson and Istvan to take the baton and run with it is quite the start to the new era in Cleveland.

Browns poach Eagles assistant OL coach Roy Istvan to work with Andy Dickerson

The Browns pull in a second highly regarded offensive line coach.

After working with the Philadelphia Eagles and Jeff Stoutland for five years, Roy Istvan is now jumping over to the Cleveland Browns to work with new offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, according to the Associated Press’ Tom Withers.

The Browns may have lost Bill Callahan, who left to coach with his son with the Tennessee Titans, but they have done a great job of bringing in replacements for the legendary coach. Dickerson has a ton of run-game experience under both Sean McVay and Shane Waldron, and Istvan has worked with Shane Steichen.

Needing to freshen up their offensive scheme without overhauling it, the Browns have added a diverse set of offensive minds to their staff, including new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, Dickerson and now Istvan.

With Kevin Stefanski up for Coach of the Year tonight at the NFL Honors show, the Browns find themselves in position for long-term stability for the first time since their return to the league in 1999.

Browns hire Andy Dickerson as Bill Callahan replacement as OL coach

The Browns have their new offensive line coach

The Cleveland Browns now have their new offensive line coach after veteran Bill Callahan left the team to coach with his son in Tennessee. Originally brought in by the Browns last month to interview for the offensive coordinator position Andy Dickerson is joining the team to replace Callahan.

This will be his second sting with the team after serving as a defensive quality control coach in 2009 and the assistant offensive line coach in 2010. Most recently Dickerson spent the past three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks as the offensive run game coordinator in 2021 and the offensive line coach the past two seasons.

Dickerson has plenty of offensive line coaching experience as he was with the Rams as their offensive line o-line coach from 2012-2020. Kevin Stefanski’s new-look offensive coaching staff as they look to evolve and change as an offense around Deshaun Watson hoping to build the team’s success in 2023 and take things to the next level.

Browns hiring Seahawks assistant Andy Dickerson as offensive line coach

Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson is leaving to take the same position with the Browns.

According to a report by Albert Breer at Sports Illustrated, the Cleveland Browns are hiring Seattle Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson to fill the same position on their staff.

Dickerson had previously worked for the Browns before coming to Seattle. He had also interviewed for Cleveland’s offensive coordinator position.

Injuries and a lack of resources kept the Seahawks offensive line from performing at a high level over the last couple of years, but Dickerson has earned praise for his work with Seattle’s young linemen. Dickerson will have a far more talented and experienced unit to work with on the Browns.

That makes one more spot to fill on new Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald’s staff for 2024.

Report: Patriots have target in mind for next offensive line coach

The Patriots already have a candidate in mind to take over the most problematic position on their roster

New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo already made one of the most important hires on his staff with Alex Van Pelt as the new offensive coordinator. The next major decision will be an offensive line coach, after Adrian Klemm was one-and-done with the team.

Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots are already targeting Seattle Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson as the man to replace Klemm.

The Patriots’ offensive line was a mess from the start of the 2023 season, and most of the issues had nothing to do with Klemm as a coach. Questionable personnel decisions, along with injuries, doomed the unit, and the entire offense faltered as a result.

So New England will look to do a better job of putting the right personnel in place through free agency and the draft, while also finding the right coach to get the unit back on track.

Dickerson has ties to the Patriots organization as an operations department intern back in 2004. Since those days, he has worked his way up from a coaching assistant to an offensive line coach. He has extensive experience working nine years as an offensive line assistant coach with the Los Angeles Rams before finally receiving his promotion in Seattle in 2022.

With Pete Carrol stepping down as head coach in Seattle, Dickerson could be looking for another NFL opportunity, and it could come in the form of a Patriots team in desperate need of help.

Bengals interview Seahawks OL coach Andy Dickerson for offensive coordinator

The Bengals have interviewed an outside candidate for the offensive coordinator position.

The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t waste much time looking outside the building for a possible Brian Callahan replacement after the offensive coordinator left to become the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Bengals interviewed Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson for the position on Tuesday.

Dickerson spent a few years in Cleveland helping coach both sides of the ball in 2009 and bounced around a few other offensive spots — including a stint with the Rams and Zac Taylor. He’s most recently served as the line coach and run game coordinator for the Seahawks, crafting a strong resume along the way.

While the Bengals project to promote quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher to fill the void left by Callahan’s departure, he has three offensive coordinator interviews lined up with other teams.

Browns interview Seahawks OL coach Andy Dickerson for open OC post

The Browns have their first interview for their OC opening.

The Cleveland Browns are interviewing Andy Dickerson, the offensive line coach of the Seattle Seahawks, for their open offensive coordinator post to replace Alex Van Pelt.

This is the first interview the Browns have completed as they look for a replacement for Van Pelt. After the Seahawks have moved on from Pete Carroll, they allow their coaches to interview elsewhere this offseason.

Overhauling the run game is a massive point of emphasis for the Browns this offseason, moving on from running backs coach Stump Mitchell as well. Dickerson was the run game coordinator for the Seahawks in 2021 before being promoted to offensive line coach.

In 2021, the Seahawks were second in the NFL in Expected Points Added on the ground.

Do not look for this to be a short process as head coach Kevin Stefanski and the Browns will continue to turn over every stone. This is just the beginning as the Browns continue to look to improve their offense.

Browns interviewing Seahawks offensive line coach for OC position

Dickerson could do much better work with an organization really committed to OL development.

The Browns are interviewing Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson for their open offensive coordinator position, according to a report by Mary Kay Calbot at Cleveland.com.

Dickerson earned a lot of praise early in the season for his unit’s performance despite injuries to left tackle Charles Cross and right tackle Abe Lucas. However, as the schedule got harder the unit quickly fell to pieces as they faced better pass rushing teams that tended to dominate them. Seattle also only managed three or four strong run blocking games all year.

Then again, Dickerson wasn’t given much to work with. The Seahawks had the cheapest offensive line in the league this season by a huge margin, whereas the Browns are near the top of the NFL in this category, with only six teams spending more up front in 2023. Dickerson could do much better work with an organization really committed to OL development.

The only other Seahawks assistant to draw interest thus far is offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. The Saints and Bears have requested to interview him for their offensive coordinator openings.

Seahawks assistant coaches are free to look for other jobs

According to a report by Jonathan Jones at CBS, Seattle’s assistant coaches are free to look for work elsewhere in the wake of Pete Carroll getting fired as the team’s head coach.

The Seahawks are about to go through a serious turnover at the top of the organization, and we’ll likely see a radically different front office and coaching staff by the end of it.

According to a report by Jonathan Jones at CBS, Seattle’s assistant coaches are free to look for work elsewhere in the wake of Pete Carroll getting fired as the team’s head coach.

Carroll’s assistants will likely not be in too much demand, as Seattle underachieved this season on both sides of the ball.

While offensive coordinator Shane Waldron had his moments the Seahawks finished at No. 17 in points per game, which is obscene given how much talent they have. Defensively, Seattle fell apart down the stretch and finished at No. 25 in scoring defense – making defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt a tough sell for other teams that are in the market for coordinators.

Early in the season, offensive line coach Andy Dickerson was getting a ton of praise, but as injuries assailed the unit the group’s performance dropped off in a bad way. At one point Dickerson would have been a great candidate to move up in his next job, but now that’s far from certain, as well.

This may be the single craziest coaching cycle we have seen – with several quality head coaches and even a couple of future Hall of Famers now on the market.

‘Correction is direction’ for Seahawks’ young offensive linemen

Under offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, “‘correction is direction” for the Seattle Seahawks’ young offensive linemen at training camp.

While Seahawks coach Pete Carroll sets the tone for the team, offensive line coach Andy Dickerson’s focus is on his men up front. Dickerson is in his first season at his new position after joining the team in 2021 as the run game coordinator.

It was no surprise he was asked about Seattle’s offensive linemen during his press conference on Wednesday.

A lot of the playbook is in, but you see Charles (Cross) rolling with the ones and we’ve had Abe (Lucas) rolling with the ones, so we give them the information and we let them fly,” Dickerson said. “We have extra meetings with the rookies, myself or Keli’i (Kekuewa) will meet with them extra. We have rookie meetings, but then he will grab them early in the morning sometimes, so you just keep giving them the information. Again, we had the rookie minicamp and there weren’t different plays then, so they have had that knowledge.”

Like the rest of the roster, there are a number of starting spots up for grabs on the offensive line and Dickerson is busy watching the competition play itself out under his tutelage.

“You keep stacking it and giving them the reps,” he explained. “Correction is direction, so every time something happens at practice, that’s why you practice. You learn it, you get better, you change the synapses, and you react the right way when you need to.”

The Seahawks have an off day on Thursday before returning to the practice field on Friday.
