UFC 277 video: Michael Morales beats down Adam Fugitt en route to stoppage

At 23 years old, Michael Morales continues to build his reputation as powerful finisher.

[autotag]Michael Morales[/autotag] improved his finishing percentage once again Saturday when he stopped promotional newcomer [autotag]Adam Fugitt[/autotag] with punches at UFC 277.

The stoppage came at the 1:09 mark of the final round on the prelims at American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Morales (14-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has two finishes in as many UFC appearances. This one played out in a similar method to his previous one. Morales tagged Fugitt (8-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a combination that sat his opponent down.

Fugitt briefly recovered back to his feet and tried to clinch Morales in range. However, Morales moved in and out of the pocket and dropped Fugitt again. Referee Herb Dean saw enough and dove in to save Fugitt, who still grabbed for a leg despite his disorientation.

Morales now has 12 finishes in 14 professional fights. His other UFC win came by knockout against Trevin Giles in January.

Fugitt had a four-fight winning streak snapped. He was the biggest underdog on Saturday’s card. He took the UFC 277 bout on short notice after Ramiz Brahimaj withdrew due to injury.

UFC 270 results: 22-year-old Michael Morales blasts Trevin Giles with barrage, gets TKO stoppage

Moving to 13-0, Michael Morales picked up his first UFC win in style Saturday in Anaheim, Calif.

[autotag]Michael Morales[/autotag] is only 22 years old and he’s already knocking out established veterans inside the UFC cage.

In the UFC 270 main card opener Saturday, Morales (13-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made his promotional debut against former RFA champion [autotag]Trevin Giles[/autotag] (14-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) and won via TKO at 4:06 of Round 1.

Morales, who earned a UFC deal on an episode of Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021, was the first to absorb a knockdown strike – but he wasn’t the last. After he regained himself, Morales unleashed havoc on Giles, who struggled to stay upright but eventually found his way.

Giles did not stay upright for long however, as another brutal Morales combination sent him back down to the canvas. As Giles grabbed hold of Morales’ leg, he received dozens of punches to his head. Referee Mike Beltran saw enough, and much to the dismay of Giles, waved off the fight.

With the win, Morales has finished 11 of his 13 professional fights. As for Giles, the defeat extends his losing skid to two, which also includes a TKO loss to Dricus Du Plessis in his most recent outing.
