Social Media Reacts: CeeDee Lamb sets single season receiving record for Dallas Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb set a new single-season receiving record for the Dallas Cowboys and here’s how social media reacted.

The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best wide receivers in the game in [autotag], CeeDee Lamb[/autotag], and now he’s proving to be one of the best in Cowboys history.

The former Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver set a new single-season receiving record with a big night for the Cowboys. In Dallas’ 20-19 win over the Detroit Lions, Lamb had 13 receptions for 227 yards and a touchdown. That gives Lamb 122 receptions for 1,651 yards and 10 touchdowns.

With the huge night, he passed Cowboys legend and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin for the most receiving yards in a season in Dallas Cowboys history.

In his fourth season with the Cowboys, Lamb has ascended to be considered among the very best in the NFL. He’s seen his reception, yardage, and touchdown totals every season he’s been in the league.

He’s been every bit the player the Dallas Cowboys hoped they were getting and more when they selected him with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

In the process of setting the Cowboys single-season record, Lamb set single-game bests for receptions and yards in the win.

Let’s take a look at how social media reacted to Lamb’s historic day.

Broken Record: No skips as CeeDee Lamb sets Cowboys all-time receiving mark

The Cowboys have a new single-season receptions leader.

The Cowboys have a new franchise record holder for receptions.

With his third catch of the first half, wideout CeeDee Lamb has passed Michael Irvin for the most receptions in Dallas franchise history. Lamb entered the game with 109 receptions. Unfortunately, instead of being able to celebrate it and the touchdown it should’ve been, Lamb lost the ball. To make matters worse, it went into the end zone before going out of bounds, invoking the worst rule in professional sports.

Anywhere else on the field, a fumble forward that goes out of bounds returns the ball to the spot of the fumble. But for some reason, a fumble that goes into the end zone and then out of bounds is a touchback, given to the other team.

Lamb caught two more passes on the next possession to push his total to 114 and counting.

Michael Irvin praises Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, defense on Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill

Michael Irvin praises #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and defense on #Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill

The performance of the Kansas City Chiefs in their victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 caught the attention of many critics. The matchup between two of the NFL’s top teams in a different country on national television didn’t disappoint.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin made his weekly appearance on the FS1 show ‘Undisputed’ to provide commentary on Sunday’s game. The multiple-time Super Bowl winner was impressed with the Chiefs’ physical secondary coverage on Tyreek Hill, most specifically cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.

“Like a boxer, you’re not gonna be as fast in the fourth quarter when we beat you up all game like this,” said Irvin, “and to some degree that has been happening.”

Hill finished Sunday’s game with eight catches for 62 yards, no touchdowns, and a lost fumble. The legendary receiver had plenty of praise for Patrick Mahomes’ performance in the game and, so far this season, doing the most with his cast of targets.

“Patrick Mahomes is basically God playing quarterback. I don’t care what you guys say,” Irvin explained. “He doesn’t have quite the talent he needs at wide receiver, but he always makes just enough plays to keep them in the game. If you’re not going to catch this ball, I’ll run and scoot past this first down. He’s a phenomenal, phenomenal talent.”

During Sunday’s victory, Mahomes connected with multiple receivers for two touchdown passes, finishing 20 of 30 for 185 yards. Irvin felt a moment of nostalgia seeing Hill on the field against the Chiefs as he revealed his displeasure of not seeing him still in Kansas City.

“I’m disappointed I got cheated out of Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and Patrick Mahomes,” said Irvin. “That should have never been broken up. That was the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on a football field.

The Chiefs’ Pro Bowl offensive trio had a remarkable tenure in NFL history and provided unforgettable highlight reels. Kansas City moves forward after their bye week with a much-anticipated Super Bowl LVII rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles.

NFL Network’s Michael Irvin directing the Browns’ hype train

The HOF wide receiver thinks the Browns hype is for real

The Cleveland Browns gained some attention after shutting down the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense during a 24-3 opening-week victory at home. It wasn’t just locally as NFL Network’s Michael Irvin chose the Browns as the team he is all aboard the hype train for during this week’s NFL Gameday Morning Show.

He talked briefly about the defense but also about the running game of Nick Chubb paired with the impact Deshaun Watson can have as a runner as well. The team had to lean on old school smash mouth football last week and showed they can adapt and win bad weather games, a must playing on the lake.

It’s a big game for the team in primetime and if they expect more people to get aboard the hype train a big victory over the Steelers this week. The talent is on the team they must prove that they can put it all together consistently as the Bengals have opened the door with a 0-2 start in the division.

Michael Irvin reaches settlement with Marriott, back on NFL Network in Week 1

From @ToddBrock24f7: The Hall of Famer has been suspended by NFL Network since February; the settlement comes in time for him to be on-set for Week 1 coverage.

The Playmaker is back on NFL Network, just in time for Week 1 of the 2023 season.

Former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin has reached a settlement with the Marriott hotel chain in his $100 million defamation lawsuit dating back to February. The settlement paved the way for Irvin to once again appear on NFL Network for the first time since the outlet’s Super Bowl coverage began on Feb. 6.

The late-breaking development was first reported by the Dallas Morning News.

“Michael Irvin has been reinstated and will be a part of NFL Network’s coverage of the 2023 season,” said Alex Riethmiller, NFL Media vice president of communication, via a statement.

[affiliatewidget_smgtolocal]

Irvin had been indefinitely suspended from the network following claims from a Phoenix Marriott employee that the Hall of Famer made sexually lewd comments to her in a hotel lobby. Irvin admitted that he did not recall all of the exact details of his exchange with the woman but denied her accusations; several eyewitnesses had come forward backing up Irvin’s version of events that nothing untoward happened. Video footage showed nothing out of the ordinary. Irvin was barred from all Super Bowl coverage on NFL Network and ESPN though no criminal charges were ever filed against him.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Michael Irvin hotel lobby video released; lawyer explains Arizona refiling

The HoFer and his legal team showed the video they say shows no evidence of the alleged sexual harassment in a Phoenix hotel lobby. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Michael Irvin’s legal team held a press conference Tuesday to clear up the status of the former Cowboy’s $100 million defamation lawsuit and show the highly-anticipated video that they believe proves the Hall of Famer did not sexually harass a woman in the lobby of a Phoenix hotel last month.

Attorney Levi McCathern pointed out to media members that while he did, in fact, file a dismissal of Irvin’s lawsuit within the state of Texas on Monday, the case was immediately re-filed in Arizona, where the alleged incident occurred on Feb. 5.

But the focus of the press conference, the second for Irvin and his lawyers in a one-week span, was to play the hotel’s surveillance footage that late last week was ordered released by a federal judge.

Irvin and his team believe the video makes it clear that- despite the woman’s claims of graphic language and aggressive, unwanted flirtation from Irvin- nothing inappropriate happened during the ex-wide receiver’s brief exchange with the female hotel employee.

“We used to say, when we played football,” Irvin explained, “‘the eye in the sky don’t tell no lie.’ It’s just the truth. We can talk and tell lies, but ‘the eye in the sky don’t tell no lies.'”

The video, which has no accompanying audio, shows an interaction that lasts less than two minutes total. In it, Irvin can be seen shaking the woman’s hand at the beginning and end of their conversation. While he does reach out and touch the woman’s arm twice, there is space between them for the entirety of their encounter.

The footage appears to show the woman going out of her way to deliberately “intercept” Irvin as he re-entered the lobby from taking a photo out front with fans; the hotel claimed that the three-time Super Bowl champ “flagged down” the woman.

McCathern went on to point out several instances of the woman’s body language that would not seem to be at all consistent with the expected actions of someone who was just offended by the sort of lewd proposition the woman claims Irvin made.

On Tuesday, the 57-year-old directly addressed the most disturbing allegation- one that was not only sexually explicit but also carried racial overtones.

“I don’t speak like that,” Irvin said. “I’ve never spoken like that. I’m not even… I totally deny saying that. I totally deny saying that.”

On tape, Irvin’s conversation with the woman ends in a visibly unremarkable fashion and the two part ways.

Video footage shows Irvin then being approached by a second hotel employee. During that conversation, Irvin can be seen playfully slapping his own face three times- something last week’s hotel filing did specify- before taking a selfie with the second employee.

More crucially, though, McCathern notes the presence of another hotel worker who is in close proximity to the female employee before and after her exchange with Irvin and appears to be demonstrably upset about something.

The attorney stated an interest in eventually obtaining other camera angles of the exchange as well as additional footage from the hotel’s video archives that would show the actions and movements of Irvin and the female employee prior to the released clip.

The refiled case names Marriott International as the parent company of the hotel, the separate company that technically operates the hotel, and four individuals, including the female employee. She is identified in court documents as “Jane Doe.”

Michael Irvin refiles $100 million lawsuit against Marriott, accuser in Arizona

No reason was given; it was not immediately known whether the dismissal signals that a settlement between the two sides was reached. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Update: Irvin hasn’t dropped the lawsuit completely, but rather has refiled in the state of Arizona.

Former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin has dropped his $100 million lawsuit against the Marriott hotel chain and the employee who accused him of misconduct in early February.

Irvin was removed from NFL Network’s week-long coverage of Super Bowl LVII after the worker reported an encounter that took place in the lobby of the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown hotel. Irvin says nothing inappropriate happened; the unnamed woman claimed that the Hall of Famer made unwelcome sexual advances during their brief interaction.

Irvin, 57, filed a defamation lawsuit against the chain and the woman over lost earnings and damages to his reputation.

According to court documents filed Monday, “Plaintiff Michael Irvin respectfully dismisses the action without prejudice.”

No reason was given for the dismissal, and it is not known if a settlement between the two sides was reached in the matter.

Just last week, a federal judge chastised Marriott for not turning over video footage of the encounter between Irvin and their employee. Irvin’s attorney had been allowed to view the footage, but only under strict guidelines set by the chain.

Irvin had compared the situation to a modern-day lynching.

A court filing on Friday finally gave the woman’s detailed account of the incident, which included a lewd proposition made by the former Cowboy.

Irvin’s attorney called the allegations “hogwash” and promised that the video, ordered by the judge to be released, would prove Irvin’s case.

Court motion offers graphic details in Michael Irvin case, video to be made public

The Marriott employee’s story details aggressive flirting and a lewd proposition from the Hall of Fame WR; a judge ruled on the video. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Marriott has finally revealed details regarding the early February incident involving former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin in Phoenix. A court motion now filed by the hotel chain gives a version of events that’s very different from the story told by Irvin and multiple witnesses.

Those details come as a federal judge says the company “blatantly” violated an order to provide Irvin with video recordings of the incident in question. In response to an emergency motion filed by Irvin’s legal team, the judge is allowing the video to be released publicly.

The Marriott motion, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, describes an encounter with a female employee that was initiated by a “visibly intoxicated” Irvin and quickly escalated into aggressive flirtation, unwanted physical contact, and a graphic proposition from the Hall of Famer.

Irvin filed a lawsuit against Marriott and the woman seeking $100 million in damages after he was sent home from his job covering Super Bowl LVII for NFL Network.

As per the new court filing, written by a Marriott attorney, Irvin “flagged down” the woman in the lobby’s bar area as she was working, asked about her job, told her that he found her attractive, and introduced himself. The woman explained that she was not an NFL fan and didn’t know who Irvin was; Irvin reportedly told her to look him up on the internet.

During this initial exchange, Irvin shook the woman’s hand and also touched her arm “without her consent, causing her to step back, becoming visibly uncomfortable.”

It’s then that Irvin allegedly made the most disturbing accusation contained in the motion document.

Irvin “asked the Victim whether she knew anything about having a ‘big Black man inside of [her],'” per the court motion. “Taken aback by Irvin’s comments, the Victim responded that his comments were inappropriate, and she did not wish to discuss it further.”

“Irvin then attempted to grab the Victim’s hand again and said he was ‘sorry if he brought up bad memories’ for her,” the motion continues. “The Victim pulled her hand away and tried to back away from Irvin as he continued to move towards her.”

Two hotel workers apparently approached in an attempt to intervene, at which point Irvin closed the encounter with another handshake, which the Marriott legal team says the woman returned, “wanting the interaction to end.”

The former Cowboys star allegedly “stated that he would come back to find [the woman] sometime that week when she was working.” He also allegedly “leered” at the woman as she walked away and made suggestive comments overheard by another hotel employee, saying “She bad,” and “I want to hit that.”

Irvin has denied that anything inappropriate took place and explained this week that he had not seen the hotel’s video or even been informed of the exact nature of the woman’s complaints. He has admitted, however, that he had been out drinking earlier in the evening and did not recall the exact nature of his brief conversation with the woman.

This week, though, Irvin compared the accusations to a modern-day lynching. Earlier in the week, two men whom the three-time Super Bowl champ had just met said that they witnessed the entire exchange and saw nothing about the conversation or the woman’s body language that caused any sort of concern at the time.

Irvin’s attorney fired back at the new detailed allegations Friday.

“Total hogwash,” Levi McCathern said in a statement to Dallas Morning News. “Marriott’s recently created account goes against all the eyewitnesses and Michael’s own testimony as well as common sense. We will release the video next week. There is no sexual assault. The fact Marriott is taking the position that it is is an insult to all of the true female victims out there.”

“I was shocked by Marriott’s prior handling of this situation,” McCathern went on. “I am now disgusted and appalled. I wish trial was tomorrow, so Michael could clear his name and get the compensation he deserves for Marriott’s reckless disregard for the truth.”

The woman reportedly shared her version of events with a coworker that same evening and then told her supervisor about the incident the next morning.

The hotel reported the incident to the NFL, following guidelines that had been established just the day prior regarding any league employees staying at the hotel. No criminal complaint was ever received by local police about the matter.

Prior to Friday’s ruling by U.S. District Judge Amos Mazzant, only McCathern had seen the hotel’s video footage, which blurred out the woman’s face. The judge was not pleased with the hotel chain deciding to place its own conditions on who could view the footage and how.

“It seems like Marriott just looked at my order and didn’t want to produce the video,” Mazzant said.

The judge has now ordered the video to be produced “without modification.”

Irvin’s lawyer says that video’s public release will be the key to exonerating the NFL legend.

“Everybody who views [the video] will see what I’ve seen and what the witnesses who were there have seen,” McCathern said. “Michael didn’t do anything wrong.”

Michael Irvin responds publicly, emotionally to Super Bowl hotel incident

The ex-Cowboys WR compared his current situation to a modern-day lynching, saying he doesn’t even know what he’s being accused of. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Michael Irvin has now gone on the offensive in defending himself against allegations made by a Phoenix hotel employee in early February.

The former Cowboys wide receiver held a press conference Wednesday morning where he spoke publicly for the first time about the alleged incident that got him booted from NFL Network’s Super Bowl Week coverage.

A clearly emotional Irvin talked about what he maintains are false allegations that have seriously damaged his reputation, adversely affected his livelihood, negatively impacted his family, and caused the Hall of Famer to reconsider how he deals with fans and the general public moving forward.

Levi McCathern, Irvin’s attorney in the matter, recapped the events that took place Feb. 5 at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown, where Irvin was staying while covering Super Bowl LVII in nearby Glendale. A female employee of the hotel claimed that the three-time Super Bowl champ made “harassing and inappropriate comments” after briefly meeting Irvin in the lobby.

“The allegations are nonsense,” McCathern said Wednesday.

Irvin and his legal team filed a $100 million lawsuit against the woman and Marriott, the parent company of the hotel, in response.

Despite court orders, Marriott still has not provided Irvin with the hotel’s surveillance video of the encounter or even met with Irvin to discuss the details of the claims.

McCathern says he was allowed to view the footage, but only under close supervision.

He described the encounter, which he says lasted just over a minute. While the initial meeting occurred just behind a pillar in the lobby and shielded fom the camera’s view, McCathern says Irvin can be seen shaking the woman’s hand, touching her twice on the elbow as they spoke, and then shaking hands again as they part ways.

“She never acts upset,” McCathern said of the woman’s overall body language as seen on tape. “She doesn’t act like there’s any problem at all.”

Irvin’s attorneys say they have filed an emergency motion to have the video released.

“I haven’t seen this tape,” Irvin said. “I want to see what I’m being accused of, why I’ve had to put my whole life on hold, why family’s had to endure it. If I did something wrong, I’ll suffer the consequences of me doing something wrong. But if you did something wrong- you meaning them- then they should suffer the consequences of what they did wrong.”

He went on to paint a stark picture of what it’s been like to be on the receiving end of such serious allegations, with no evidence presented and no chance to properly defend himself.

“This sickens me,” the 57-year-old said. “In this great country, this takes me back to a time where a white woman would accuse a Black man of something. And they would take a bunch of guys that were above the law, run in the barn, put a rope around his foot, and drag him through the mud, and hang him by the tree. Not a thought about what would happen, not an investigation, not after repeated attempts of people trying to go and say, ‘Guys, here’s what really happened.'”

Two witnesses to the lobby encounter, men who had met Irvin for the first time just minutes earlier that night, joined the press conference via Zoom. They corroborated Irvin’s version of events: that his meeting with the woman was very brief, seemed quite amicable, and made no lasting impression on them until after reports broke days later that a claim of wrongdoing had been made against the Cowboys star.

Irvin says he is now left wondering how to best interact with fans that he meets in public after this incident.

“I’ve always tried to be good with people,” he said tearfully before exiting the press conference. “I’m struggling now, saying, ‘Do I not talk to people? What do I do?’ because of this kind of a situation. I know I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Irvin acknowledged that without the two men he had just met in the hotel also coming forward in his defense, it would now be his word against the female employee’s.

And he knows that might play very differently in the court of public opinion.

“This just blows my mind, that in 2023, we’re still dragging and hanging brothers by the tree. That blows my mind,” Irvin said, “that I have no opportunity to defend- I don’t even know what I’m defending.”

Judge orders Marriott to turn over video, accuser’s identity in Michael Irvin’s $100M defamation lawsuit

Witnesses corroborate Irvin’s story about his interaction with a hotel employee; the hotel chain has until Monday to provide their evidence. | From @ToddBrock24f7

Michael Irvin remains in the dark about exactly why he was pulled off the air from Super Bowl coverage for NFL Network and ESPN last week.

But a judge in the former wide receiver’s $100 million defamation lawsuit in the matter has ordered the Marriott hotel chain to turn over video recordings and other details in hopes of shedding some light on the allegations.

Irvin was sent home from the site of Super Bowl LVII following a complaint lodged with the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown. Irvin maintains that on Feb. 5, he had a brief and amicable conversation with a woman in the hotel lobby, shook her hand, and then went to his room alone.

The woman, who has since been revealed to be an employee of the hotel, complained to management about her interaction with the Hall of Famer. Hotel security then woke Irvin in his room, his lawsuit claims. They escorted him from the property “without any explanation or questions,” and notified the NFL of the situation.

After being excluded from the remainder of Super Bowl Week coverage by NFL Network, Irvin filed a nine-figure lawsuit against the parent company of the hotel as well as the woman, who he claims he had never seen before and has not seen since the incident.

Irvin’s lawsuit accuses the two parties of defamation as well as wrongful interference in a business relationship. The 56-year-old Cowboys icon claims he suffered damage to his reputation and lost out on added income from personal appearances that had to be scrapped as a result of his removal from the airwaves.

Irvin argues he is being “railroaded” as a target of “cancel culture.”

The three-time Super Bowl champ maintains that the interaction with the woman identified in the lawsuit as “Jane Doe” was in no way physical beyond a handshake, though he admits that he doesn’t remember exactly what was said, as he had been out drinking. Video recordings from the lobby apparently captured the meeting, but Irvin said they were not shown to him; he also has not been told what he supposedly said to the woman.

Local police officials have said no official criminal complaints against Irvin were filed. Representatives for Irvin attempted to speak with the hotel directly about the allegations and provide witnesses to resolve the matter, but those efforts were rebuffed by the Renaissance.

Marriott has, this week, banned Irvin from all its properties, according to the lawsuit.

The Collin County (Tex.) judge in the case has ordered Marriott to submit all video recordings, written reports, and witness statements regarding the incident. They must also provide the name and contact information of the female employee as well as any employers or managers who contacted the league about the episode, and even the names of the league employees who received the original complaints.

The evidence that has already come to light seems to back up Irvin’s version of events.

According to the Dallas Morning News, three witnesses have said they saw the encounter and have even provided photos and videos pinpointing when Irvin’s conversation with the woman happened.

Bryn Davis, Joe Manuele, and Phil Watkins were in the Renaissance bar when they saw Irvin in the lobby with former Cowboys player Michael Brooks. The business associates say the two ex-players were speaking with some fans.

After offering to buy Irvin a drink (which he declined), the four men chatted. The men asked for a group photo; Irvin requested that they all go outside to do so. Those photos were timestamped as having been taken at 11:08 p.m.

Upon re-entering the lobby, Davis says he saw a female employee of the hotel approach Irvin as he walked toward the elevator and start a conversation. The encounter, he says, appeared completely normal and involved no physical contact beyond their parting handshake.

“It was very distinct,” Davis told the DMN. “I remember where his hands were, because I remember thinking he was in good shape for an almost 60-year-old guy. He leaned over, shook her hand, and I am telling you right now: That conversation was [about] 30 seconds. If it was a minute, I would be shocked. I think 30 seconds. Just a normal back-and-forth. … Michael walks toward the elevator. She goes back into the restaurant, and everything is as normal as could possibly be. And that’s it.”

Watkins corroborates that account.

“It was a positive, friendly conversation,” the Australian told TMZ. “They had a brief interaction- it was 30, 40 seconds- he kept his distance at all times, stood about a meter away from her, they ended with a handshake, and he literally turned around and went back to the lift.”

Watkins says he neither saw nor heard anything that led him to believe something inappropriate had taken place.

“There was a little bit of laughter. Obviously, a jovial conversation,” he explained. “Nothing untoward for me to actually take notice of what was going on. … She turned around after the conversation, she went back into the bar area or around the bar area, and everyone continued their evening.”

Davis said it was only later in the week, when the woman’s complaint was first reported, that he realized he and his friends had witnessed the event that was making headlines.

“I felt sick when I saw it,” he told TMZ, “because it’s the first time I was ever, firsthand experience where something like that happened that was just fabricated. It was a totally normal conversation.”

Davis even pointed out that none of the men are Cowboys fans and would have no reason to defend him if he were in the wrong.

“I’ll say this, man,” he continued. “I’m from Philadelphia. I grew up and Michael was our enemy. But he’s a super, super, super nice guy, and that’s why I felt like I needed to say something- only because he’s a good dude and to have that happen and have your livelihood or career taken is crazy. It’s not fair, so it was worth coming out and saying something.”

Marriott has been given a deadline of Feb. 20 to comply with the judge’s order to submit materials in the case.
