WATCH: Best mic’d up moments from Chiefs’ 2021 season

A look back at some of the best mic’d up moments from the #Chiefs during the 2021 NFL season.

The Kansas City Chiefs had some great mic’d up moments during the course of the 2021 NFL season.

Those moments range from funny to downright impressive feats of skill. Let’s start out talking about the funny, though. For instance, it’s crazy how many different checks the Chiefs have at the line of scrimmage, both on offense and defense, that are named after foods.

“Banana, banana,” Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes called out at the line of scrimmage. “Banana.”

“Nacho, nacho,” Chiefs LB Willie Gay Jr. shouted to his teammates. “Nacho.”

“Curry, curry, curry,” Mahomes said as he approached the huddle. “Curry, curry, curry.”

You just know that Andy Reid’s mind came up with all of the food-related checks and play calls. Mahomes wasn’t the only one talking bananas either, as cameras caught RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire eating a banana on the sideline.

“Noshing on my banana, man,” Edwards-Helaire says on the sideline. “I be hungry as hell.”

One of my favorite moments came in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens. Tyrann Mathieu, who was fresh off the COVID-19 reserve list, had nearly picked off a pass from Ravens QB Lamar Jackson. He started goading the Baltimore offense as they walked back to the huddle.

“Hey, hey,” Mathieu shouted. “Y’all better run the ball, I’m telling you. Run the f-ing ball. I’m going to pick the next one. I’m telling you.”

Sure enough, on the next play, former Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins falls out of his break and Jackson throws the ball right into Mathieu’s chest for a pick-six. He called his shot and the universe answered with a gift.

Perhaps the most amazing moment captured was Travis Kelce’s game-winning score against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. The excitement from all of his teammates swarming him after the play was something that you almost wish you could bottle.

It’s a little disheartening to watch that only to know what happened a week later in the AFC championship game. Still, it’s fun to look back on the season and it has us plenty antsy for the 2022 NFL season to arrive.

Joe Burrow was actually introducing himself to Rams players during the Super Bowl

“I’m Joe.”

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has only played a couple seasons in the NFL. He’s still relatively new to the stage, and by all accounts, he’s easy to root for.

Well, he also proved that there’s never a wrong time to be friendly — it doesn’t matter if it’s in the middle of the Super Bowl.

Mic’d-up footage from NFL Films provided some awesome insight into how Burrow interacted with his opponents on the field in Super Bowl bowl 56. And let’s just say that he won’t be following the Philip Rivers model of being a notorious trash-talker. Instead, Burrow was literally introducing himself to Rams players and NFL veterans Von Miller and Eric Weddle right there on the field.

WATCH: Chiefs TE Travis Kelce orchestrated entire 13-second game-tying drive

The legend of #Chiefs TE Travis Kelce grows. . .

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce was mic’d up during Sunday’s divisional-round win over the Buffalo Bills.

We already know that Kelce called his own shot on the 25-yard reception that put the Chiefs into field goal range, but now we know some more details about what happened in those final 13 seconds. Kelce actually orchestrated the 19-yard reception by Tyreek Hill the play prior too.

“10, 10,” Kelce shouted on the sideline. “They might man you up. I’m saying go outside and come back in like you’re running a route outside, that way when you come back in, I can get in the way.”

Sure enough, Kelce was the lead blocker for Hill on the play and kept Bills LB Tremaine Edmunds away long enough for a big gain by Hill.

Then, we actually get to hear what Kelce said to Mahomes that enabled the audible that got Kelce open and Kansas City into field goal range.

“Hey, hey,” Kelce said to Mahomes. “If they play it like that, that seam is open.”

We all know what happens after that.

“Do it Kels,” Mahomes signals. “Do it, do it Kels.”

After Kelce makes the catch, he can be heard hyping himself up too.

“C’mon, c’mon,” he says.

To think he also went on to catch the game-winning touchdown in overtime as well. What a legendary moment captured from a player who will go down as one of the best to ever suit up in the NFL.

WATCH: Jags’ Josh Allen forgets he’s mic’d up during win over the Buffalo Bills

Josh Allen was mic’d up during Sunday’s win, a detail he unfortunately forgot in the middle of the game.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ edge rusher Josh Allen had a historic game on Sunday, and fans can get a firsthand look at what it was like to be on the field with him on Sunday, as the third-year player was “mic’d up” by the league. Unfortunately for Allen, that’s a detail that he forgot.

Allen notched an interception against Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen (who he made history by sacking, becoming the first player in NFL history to sack a player with the same name) despite lining up on the opposite side of the formation and having to move across the entire field in pass coverage to make a play.

Following the pick, Allen had a, shall we say, colorful exchange with his teammate, defensive tackle Malcom Brown, in the end zone. In a subsequent exchange on the sideline, Allen admitted he forgot he was mic’d up.

“Josh must be mic’d up,” someone said. Defensive end Dawuane Smoot asked Allen if he was the one who was mic’d up.

“I don’t think so,” Allen replied, before quickly realizing his mistake.

“Oh, s—, I am mic’d up.”

Allen apologized to Brown for his error, and while his teammates likely weren’t too pleased about being caught on a hot mic without warning, it’s hard to imagine much of a grudge was held considering the game Allen had.

Fans didn’t need a mic to hear Allen after his sack, as he stood on the bench and addressed them directly.

“What they talking about,” he said, “What they talking about? Come on!”

Allen was also a part of one of the biggest defensive plays of the afternoon when the Jags stopped the Bills after Allen recovered a fumble. He wasn’t particularly close to the ball, but he entered the scrum like a homing missile and came away with it.

“I got that s—,” he said when he recovered the ball. “I’m turning up, I’m turning up. We about to turn up.”

Sunday’s 9-6 win over the Bills was one of the biggest this franchise has had in a long time, and it will certainly have some memorable moments from Allen, even if he didn’t remember he was being recorded during them.

Kyler Murray asked Myles Garrett about the Halloween QB graveyard in a funny mic’d-up exchange

Kyler saw those photos.

Kyler Murray is among the early favorites for NFL MVP, and for good reason. He has the Arizona Cardinals off to a perfect 6-0 start to the season. He’s electrifying to watch and real easy to root for — even among his fellow NFL players.

So, it did probably come as a surprise to Murray to be included among Browns defensive end Myles Garrett’s Halloween decorations.

Last week, photos hit social media of a quarterback graveyard set up throughout the front lawn of Garrett’s home. While the quarterbacks included just happened to be the starting quarterbacks on the Browns’ schedule, it was probably reasonable of Murray to think “why was I there” upon first glance.

Well, he asked Garrett just that after the Cardinals’ Week 6 win.

NFL Films shared mic’d-up footage of the postgame exchange between the two stars, and Murray asked Garrett, “Why you got me in the graveyard, dog?”

Garrett said he needed some added motivation, and Murray pointed out that at least his tombstone didn’t have “RIP over it.”

“Especially not tonight. You balled,” Garrett replied.

But hey, if Garrett was using the graveyard decorations as added motivation, it sure does run the risk of going both ways. Murray clearly had that one on his mind.

Falcons wired for sound: Arthur Smith mic’d up during Week 4 loss

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith was mic’d up during the team’s Week 4 loss to Washington.

Even when a team shows up and plays good football, there’s no guarantee it will translate into a win. As Atlanta Falcons fans know all too well, it is very much possible to play better than the opposing team and still lose. While the stakes weren’t quite as high in Week 4, Atlanta blew a game it had no business losing.

There was plenty of blame to go around, but if not for a miraculous play from Washington quarterback Taylor Heinicke where he somehow avoided a sack, broke away and heaved a prayer into the end zone that was caught for a touchdown, the Falcons would likely be sitting pretty at 2-2 entering this weekend’s matchup against the New York Jets in London.

Before you completely turn your attention to rookie Zach Wilson and the Jets, though, check out this mic’d up segment showing head coach Arthur Smith up close on the sidelines during the team’s Week 4 loss to Washington. Watch below as shared by the Falcons’ Twitter account.
