Two Florida targets set July 15 commitment date

Florida has been working on a pair of in-state targets from the class of 2024, but time is running thin for the Gators with a mid-July commitment date now in place.

Two Florida recruiting targets from the Florida State University School are planning on announcing their commitment decisions on July 15, according to a pair of social media posts shared below.

Micahi Danzy and Ashton Hampton are both athletes at the lab school, but the former is more likely to end up at running back and the latter is a talented defensive back. Florida has a higher chance of landing Hampton after hosting him over the summer for an official visit. Danzy’s last trip to the Swamp came in late March.

The On3 recruiting prediction machine gives the Florida State Seminoles a 99% chance of landing Danzy, with Florida apparently holding the bulk of the percentage point left to fight over. Hampton is actually projected to end up at Clemson (49.4%), but Florida (19.5%) and Arkansas (16.3%) are putting up a decent battle.

Danzy is a four-star recruit everywhere except Rivals.com, which is interestingly the only service that believes Hampton is a four-star instead of a three-star talent as well.

Regardless, the On3 industry ranking, which uses a weighted average of all four major services, has Danzy higher at No. 176 nationally and No. 6 among athletes in the class of 2024. Hampton is No. 721 and No. 34 among athletes, respectively.

LSU offers 4-star safety from Tallahassee, Florida

LSU’s recruiting staff has offered another talented safety from Florida State University High School.

LSU’s recruiting staff has offered another talented safety from Florida State University High School. This one is a 4-star from the 2024 recruiting class.

[autotag]Micahi Danzy[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound, 4-star safety from Tallahassee, Florida. The FSUHS Seminoles finished the 2022 season 14-1 with a loss to Cocoa in the 2 S state championship game.

Danzy is currently Crystal Balled to Florida State, and the Seminoles are a 71% favorite to land him per On3. Which makes sense seeing as he is in their backyard.

Film Analysis: Danzy is listed as a safety by 247Sports but he is listed as an athlete by On3. He is a dangerous player on both sides of the ball for the Seminoles.

In-state 2024 athlete to visit Florida over weekend

Florida is doing everything it can to land one of the top in-state players in the 2024 class. To do so, they’ll have to beat out the other two traditional in-state powers, not to mention the state’s latest Power 5 program in Orlando.

When Billy Napier was hired as Florida’s head coach, the No. 1 priority was to revitalize the Gators’ recruiting operation. While Dan Mullen was among the best play-callers in the nation, it was clear that his recruiting was not up to par in the SEC. One of Napier’s priorities was for the core of his recruiting classes to be made up of Florida players.

One of the advantages of having incredible athletic facilities is hosting high school athletic events, like this weekend’s Florida Relay track meet in Gainesville. Napier is taking advantage of that and using the event to meet with [autotag]Michai Danzy[/autotag], a four-star athlete from Tallahassee, Florida. Danzy told 247Sports that he would arrive on Thursday to visit practice but could also make some visits on Friday and Saturday while in town for the track meet.

This visit will mark the second time Danzy has visited Gainesville this year, with the first coming back in January. As a duel sport athlete, Danzy was able to visit with both the football and track teams in January. On the football side, he is in communication with running backs coach Jabbar Juluke.

The Florida Stae University High School athlete visited Miami (Florida) earlier this month and has not been able to make as many visits as he would like, because of his track schedule. Given his recent visits to Miami and Florida, and having grown up in Tallahassee and attending FSU’s on-campus high school, it seems like the 6-foot, 165-pound four-star is down to the three traditional Florida powers. It’s also too early to rule out the newest Power Five school in the state, UCF, which will be playing its first Big 12 season in 2023.

While Danzy is a highly-rated player and any team would be lucky to have him, having him sign with the Gators would be a massive win for Napier and his staff. It’s not just that he fits what the coaching staff is looking for in a player, it’s that it would be a head-to-head-to-head win over in-state competition. If the Gators want to return to competing for national championships, they need to make sure they get the best talent in Florida to suit up in orange and blue, not green, gold, or garnet.
