Where do prominent Sooners 2023 targets land in the updated Top247 from 247Sports?

Taking a look at several Sooners targets who saw movement in the updated Top247 Rankings from 247Sports.

With the completion of the 2021 season and 2022 recruiting concluded, aside from a few high-profile names, most recruiting services have moved their focus toward the class of 2023. Recently, On3 Recruiting released their updated On300 rankings to reflect how they view prospects from the class of 2023 as camps, showcases, and 7-on-7’s move to the forefront. The current juniors have one final summer before making that leap to their senior year.

Oklahoma has prospects littered up and down the 247Sports rankings, and many saw moves up the list while a few experienced declines in their rankings, and some held steady at their previous spots. Parker Thune of OUInsider provides a complete look at every Oklahoma target and where they now rank in 247Sports updated Top247.

Here’s a look at 11 Oklahoma targets and how they moved in the 2023 rankings.

The details and expected visitors for Oklahoma’s first Junior Day under Brent Venables

The Sooners will host their first junior day under Brent Venables with recruits from across the country coming to visit Norman.

The Oklahoma Sooners will follow up last week’s major recruiting weekend with another one this weekend. Junior Day allows the Sooners staff the opportunity to have class of 2023 players across the country to come in, tour the facility and continue working on relationships coaches have already started forming.

Junior Days used to be massive with hundreds of athletes coming in but most schools now have thinned it out and tried to make it a more intimate experience, limiting it to only players the schools legitimately are interested in.

Last weekend’s recruiting bonanza had a heavy focus on the class of 2022 as most of the visitors were recruits who were undecided, in need of some confirmation, or were getting their first real look at what Oklahoma has to offer.

The visit went well with longtime recruit Gentry Williams effectively ending his recruitment and affirming his commitment to the Sooners. Gracen Halton, the then Oregon commit’s visit went so well that the recruiting world submitted multiple predictions that he would be flipping to the Oklahoma Sooners on signing day. This was then followed up by a decommitment from Oregon fueling the flames even more.

For the Sooners, back-to-back weekends of major recruiting implications are exactly what this program needs as they h look to replenish their 2023 class which was affected by the departure of Lincoln Riley. New staff and opportunities inbound. With that said, we’ve compiled a list of every Junior Day visitor that is known so far:

Four-star ATH Jacobe Johnson

Four-star  EDGE rusher Bai Jobe

Four-star ATH Micah Tease

Four-star QB Jackson Arnold — OU Commit

Four-star WR Ashton Cozart

ATH Erik McCarty

Four-star OL Knijeah Harris

Three-Star OL Joshua Bates — OU Commit

As more names continue to trickle in, we’ll continue updating the list with each name as they confirm their intentions on whether they’ll be in Norman this weekend or not.

Booker T. Washington’s Micah Tease ‘re-offered’ by the Oklahoma Sooners

Class of 2023 four-star athlete Micah Tease announced he has been “re-offered” by the Oklahoma Sooners.

Brent Venables and Oklahoma want to keep all of the homegrown talent in the Sooner State. That includes Booker T. Washington’s Micah Tease.

The class of 2023 four-star athlete announced today that he has been “re-offered” by Oklahoma.

“After a great talk with (Coach Venables) and (Coach Hall), I am HONORED to be re-offered by the UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA! #BoomerSooner,” Tease tweeted.

247Sports has Tease ranked as the nation’s No. 122 player overall and the 15th-highest rated athlete. In 247Sports’ composite player rankings, Tease checks in as the nation’s No. 163 player overall in the 2023 class.

Rivals has Tease ranked as the nation’s No. 210 player overall and No. 10 athlete. On3 rates Tease as the nation’s No. 125 player overall and the country’s 18th-best wide receiver. Tease is listed as a three-star recruit by ESPN.

OUInsider’s Brandon Drumm and Parker Thune both have put in crystal ball projections for Tease to wind up at Oklahoma. Those crystal-ball predictions came last summer on July 9 and Aug. 3, respectively.

According to MaxPreps, Tease hauled in 31 receptions for 618 receiving yards and had nine touchdowns during his 2021 season with the Booker T. Washington Hornets.

In addition to OU, Tease holds scholarship offers from Arkansas, Cal, Florida, Iowa State, Memphis, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, USC, Washington, and Wisconsin.

With Tease’s versatility, it’s unclear where he would play on the next level, but just judging from Tease including OU safeties coach Brandon Hall and head coach Brent Venables’ names in his tweet, it appears OU might like Tease on the defensive side of the football.

Tease has taken unofficial visits to Arkansas, Alabama, and Oklahoma State. Tease went to Arkansas on Sept. 11, Alabama on Nov. 20, and Oklahoma State on Nov. 27.

Official and Unofficial visitors coming to Norman for Oklahoma’s Big 12 Opener vs. WVU

Oklahoma is set to host several players for official and unofficial visits for this weekends prime-time matchup with West Virginia

Opening their conference slate on what should be a nice evening could not work out any better for the Oklahoma Sooners. They will have a lot of the nation watching, another sellout atmosphere, and some very high-profile recruits in town that they should be ecstatic to host. Let’s take a look at some of the players slated to take official and unofficial visits to Norman this weekend.

Official visits:

Unofficial visits:

As it stands at the time of this post, this group of visitors is loaded. There’s a nice blend of commits and uncommitted guys. Those who have already committed can work on the uncommitted athletes and convince them to come to Oklahoma. It’s a perfect situation for Oklahoma.

NOTES:

In-state star Chris McLellan out of Owasso, Oklahoma, is a priority for Oklahoma. They’ll be trying to restock their defensive line cupboard with the likely departure of multiple guys to the NFL or graduation this winter. Currently, Oklahoma is competing with Florida, Ohio State, and Alabama the most for his services.

Marvin Jones Jr will be on his official visit. He plays at American Heritage which is the same school as Sooners 2023 commit Brandon Inniss. The Sooners have an excellent little connection with this school currently will look to stand out with a great official and hope Brandon can keep the pressure on him at school.

The biggest fish that will be in town is that of Lebbeus Overton. Overton is the number two player in the country in 247Sports composite rankings and the number one recruit by 247Sports. He’s a Sooner legacy as his father (Milton Overton) played offensive line at Oklahoma from 1991-1994. Oklahoma was rumored to be out of the race for Overton. However, a trip to the Champ U BBQ and an unofficial visit this weekend indicates communication between the two sides has picked back up. Oklahoma could really make some noise here. Ultimately, they need to have him back for an official.

With only one offensive lineman committed for the 2023 class, Oklahoma will likely start building on both sides of the line for that class. Guys like Harris Sewell have an offer from the Sooners and are very much on Oklahoma’s radar.

Stay tuned throughout the week as we update the list with more information on who is and is not visiting this Saturday against West Virginia.

Oklahoma offers 2023 WR Micah Tease out of Tulsa, OK

Oklahoma officially offered local 2023 wide receiver Micah Tease (Tulsa, OK) on Wednesday.

It is a busy time in Oklahoma football recruiting this June as offers continue to get sent out to players getting the chance to visit Norman officially after the NCAA’s recruiting dead period finally ended earlier this month.

Wednesday saw the Sooners send out an official offer to another local product in class of 2023 wide receiver Micah Tease out of Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

With two years of high school football still left, Tease is not yet rated or ranked by the major recruiting services but is certainly considered a legitimate prospect that will get that recognition in due time. In addition to Oklahoma, he holds offers from Florida, Iowa State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Texas Tech and Tulsa.

At 6-0 and 170 pounds, Tease provides good speed and hands that allows him to get open often and make plays with the football once he hauls it in. A look at his highlight reel certainly provides some excitement for what he could grow into in the future:

Sooners Wire will continue to provide updates to Tease’s recruitment as they become available over time.
