Bills’ Josh Allen starts ‘one more year’ chant for Micah Hyde

#Bills’ Josh Allen starts ‘one more year’ chant for Micah Hyde:

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was not being shy at Micah Hyde’s annual softball event.

The charity game held at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo went off over the weekend. During it, Allen and Hyde were both on the mic at one point.

Then Allen did it: “One more year.”

Hyde is undecided about his future. He recently noted he will either retire or return to the Bills, no other team will be considered by him… but we know what Allen’s preference is.

Allen’s chant can be found in the clip below:

CBS Sports ranks Bills Josh Allen among top three in NFL

CBS Sports ranks Bills Josh Allen among top three in NFL:

It’s not uncommon for sports media analysts to begin ranking NFL players and teams ahead of the 2024 season, some even start before the the Super Bowl confetti has settled from the previous year.

CBS Sports released their 2024 NFL QB Power Rankings amidst the offseason, and while some rankings were as expected, others were surprising. Brock Purdy is ranked at number two, for example.

Where Buffalo QB Josh Allen falls often depends on who’s making the list, but in this case, he slotted in third behind Purdy and Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes who was ranked first. Here’s what CBS Sports had to say…

Allen was already a one-man roller-coaster ride, and things could get rockier in Buffalo with basically the whole receiving corps replaced. But he’s a perennial MVP type due to the Superman skill set. If anyone can will a team to contend with a rocket arm and bruising legs, it’s him.

The Bills and their fans hope that the adjustments Allen made at halftime during Buffalo’s final regular season contest against Miami last year will be a permanent one that continues in 2024. His 2023 campaign included leading all NFL QBs in total touchdowns and yards, but it was marred by interceptions.

But when he plays to his best abilities, it’s been seen what Allen is capable of.

Considering that GM Brandon Beane has seemingly replaced and recreated the productivity and numbers of his previous roster, and gotten younger at key positions in the process, if Allen has a similar year without the turnovers and the Bills roster stays healthier, the team might not experience a drop off despite losing many key players.

It’s even possible that the Bills could have an even better season. But time will tell.

Latest on Micah Hyde and his future: ‘It’s Bills or retire’

Latest on Micah Hyde and his future: ‘It’s #Bills or retire’

Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde was back in town continuing his athletics career. He’s just still undecided on his football future.

Hyde returned to Buffalo for his annual charity softball game. Speaking to reporters, he has made at least one decision on what his NFL future will hold.

“It’s Bills or retire,” he said.

Hyde is evidently not entering signing with another team in the league. His most-recent contract with the Bills ended after last season and he is allowed to sign with any team he so desires as a free agent… but it’s not looking likely.

Bills’ Sean McDermott explains importance of locker room leadership

#Bills’ Sean McDermott explains importance of locker room leadership:

Bills coach Sean McDermott has always expressed the importance of his team captains. They provide the leadership for the rest of the locker room when McDermott himself is not around.

This offseason when defensive backs Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer departed the Bills, a chunk of that was lost.

During an appearance on former Bill Eric Wood’s podcast, McDermott explained that leadership is not something that just appears out of thin air. Instead, it’s a process of growing that in someone over time.

“It is an important trait of any successful team,” McDermott said.

Micah Hyde makes first comments about potential return to Bills

Micah Hyde makes first comments about potential return to #Bills:

The Buffalo Bills are in the middle of an offseason that has seen them make some franchise-altering moves over the past few months. One of the unresolved matters of this summer for Buffalo has been whether they will have back one of the players who has been the mainstay of their defense since the 2017 season.

While safety Jordan Poyer was released by the Bills in a salary cap move and eventually signed by the Miami Dolphins, the case is different for Micah Hyde. The 33-year-old Hyde was a pending free agent and was contemplating retiring. He remains unsigned.

Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane noted last week that he was not going to press Hyde for any answer relating to if he will return.

But Hyde then went on to make his first comment about his thought process anyway. However, Hyde did admit he’s still deciding.

Hyde said that he’s “still not sure” about his plans for next season via WGR-550 radio. At the moment, Buffalo is preparing for the 2024 NFL draft that begins on Thursday as they look to add some youth to a team that has been offloading some of their veteran players this offseason.

Hyde said he is still working out on a daily basis just in case he commits to playing in the NFL next season, but is taking his time to make sure that he’s making the “most informed decision” that he can make. Hyde has been thinking hard about retirement given that he has suffered several neck injuries in recent years that could have been more detrimental to his health.

One good thing that should make Bills fans more optimistic is that Hyde mentioned that if he did decide to play in the NFL next season that he only “imagines” playing for the Bills. For context, Hyde played just two games during the 2022 season after being placed on injured reserve following a neck injury that sent him to the hospital:

Bills’ Brandon Beane gives latest update on Micah Hyde

#Bills’ Brandon Beane gives latest update on Micah Hyde:

The Buffalo Bills are without Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde on their roster for the first time since 2017 when they arrived.

Poyer is gone. He signed with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent.

Hyde is a different story.

After the end of last season he indicated he would think about retirement. The 33-year-old has had a series of neck injuries in recent years and his contact expired after 2023. He remains a free agent but there’s still a possibility he returns to Buffalo.

But as of now, there’s little to update. General manager Brandon Beane spoke via video conference ahead of the 2024 NFL draft and when asked about Hyde, he did note there is still contact between team and player.

Beane ended up adding that the conversation was more personal rather than business, noting he doesn’t think Hyde has “totally made a 100 percent decision either way.”

Beane’s full update on Hyde can be found in the clip below:

Bills’ Brandon Beane not closing door on Micah Hyde return

#Bills’ Brandon Beane not closing door on Micah Hyde return:

Micah Hyde is a free agent but that’s it.

Jordan Poyer was released by the Buffalo Bills in a salary cap move.

He went on to sign for the Miami Dolphins.

But Hyde is a free agent. He mentioned at locker clean out day he is considering retirement after a series of neck injuries.

According to Bills general manager Brandon Beane, there’s still a chance he returns. Money is playing a part but Beane said at the NFL owners meetings he’s “not closing the door” on Hyde being on the Bills in 2024.

Beane’s full thoughts can be found in the WKVW-TV clip below:

Bills sign Taylor Rapp to three-year extension

#Bills sign Taylor Rapp to three-year extension:

Jordan Poyer’s gone and Micah Hyde is a pending free agent.

But Taylor Rapp is going nowhere.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rapp has signed a three-year extension with the Buffalo Bills.

Rapp, 26, signed with the Bills last year on a one-year contract. He served as a backup to both Poyer and Hyde and played in certain packages which put all three on the field at once.

In his first season with the Bills, Rapp accounted for 50 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, half a sack, two pass breakups, an interception, and a fumble recovery. He appeared on 421 defensive snaps and another 191 on special teams.

What’s certainly going to be different now is his role on the defense. With Poyer out, Rapp is likely sliding into his starting spot. Damar Hamlin and Kendall Williamson are the only other safeties under contract with the Bills currently.

Rapp was originally a second-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Rams in the 2019 NFL draft.

Bills Wire will continue to provide free agency updates throughout the 2024 offseason.
